Didn’t that happen in the Smash 4 finals with two Bayonetta players and everyone got mad at them?
God forbid you play video games to dick around, after all.
To be fair that was Evo grand finals. Not that I find home stocks to be a big deal like some did.

I love to shit on the smash community, but "people who are friends fucking up a grand final match" is also prevalent in the FGC, as is "people fucking up tournaments" in general.

The FGC is already small and is further broken up into smaller communities (based around each game). If you're one of the top players you're likely to be friends with some of the other top players. This frequently leads to situations where a serious match is played between friends and they fuck it up.

Most common is splitting the pot in a tournament, if they are in a finals match. Instead of getting to see the "best" match of the day the audience is instead forced to watch a super casual set between two people who don't give a shit (frequently with characters they don't know how to play).

The only way I can describe it would be like if you were watching the superbowl but the coaches knew each other. Instead of trying to win, they decide to split the trophy and the entire game is played with 3rd and 4th string players.

My favorite story about pot splitting is from Justin Wong, famed serial pot splitter. He colluded with Wolfkrone to split the pot at some tournament's finals. Wolfkrone ended up winning the fake match and proceeded to pretend like he knew nothing about a pot split and kept it all to himself. Respect.

I've always said if you want to stop pot splitting, the tournament organizers need to start handing out checks instead of cash to these degenerates. It's easy to stomach handing over half of your winnings to someone else when it's cash at the venue, but good luck trying to get that money from the degenerate "winner" weeks/months later after the check has cleared and they have to actually put in effort to give that money to them.

My personal favorite is when Sanford Kelly and Chris G colluded on a SF4 tourney stream and the TO/Streamer "Spooky" went on stream and called them colluding shit heads, took all bonuses out of the pot, and shut down the stream.

EDIT - or this one.

From the comments of that “Pat REALLY hates Melee Players” Friendcast clip that’s posted in her often.

This video has my two favorite things: Melee fans getting mad and Salem getting dumped on.

I want one of them to start a kickstarter for a retro fightgames con feat. SF2, MVC2 and Melee. Maybe call it ConTainment.

They could also rent a ballpit. What could possibly go wrong?

Forget Clayfighter, where the hell is Shaq Fu?

Mystery game tourney is legitimately the best part of any game con. Watching pros get mad at trash games is genuinely entertaining.

Kotaku (sorry) article about some autism at the recent tournament.
Somebody in the crowd was yelling about how one player kept doing something over and over and to watch out for it. That player (Marss) took exception to this and walked away midmatch.
Because the tournament organizers are also autistic, they kicked out the fan yelling out the tips and convened for 30 autistic minutes about how to handle this and what they came up with was to restart the match even at 2-2 despite Wishes (Marss' opponent) being up 1 stock already. Wishes said to just DQ him because that wasn't fair, so they took another hour and 30 minutes and decided to restart the match 2-1 in Wishes' favor.

Very problematic all around. Firstly if someone walks away from a game, that's a forfeit in my book. Secondly the crowd can yell whatever they want, this ain't chess, this ain't tennis, it's a party game. Thirdly, as a tournament organizer, you can't let the competitor change the terms like that. You decided on 2-2 stocks, backing down to 1-2 stocks looks really bad.

To add on to your point, it's such a baffling mistake to make.

Additionally, all rules should be available and clear before the event. There should be a clear rule about what the penalties are for stalling a match, being late to a match, etc and "leaving during a match" should be covered very easily.

Not only that, but if you aren't sure/don't have written rules; just use EVO's rules which are relatively clear but very concise (http://evo.shoryuken.com/tournament-rules/). A game stoppage (for any reason) is a round forfeit in that case (or game forfeit if it disrupts the whole set).

Another day, another stupid fake leak.
This guy opens up the video by saying "this seems pretty legit" despite the Grinch Leak showing how far some fake leakers go with there hoaxes, and despite the continued existence of photoshop. This "leak" claims that we're going to get fighters from Dragon Quest, Cuphead, DOOM, and that one Pokemon clone that I can't be arsed to remember the name of, with the only "evidence" being a screenshot that could have easily been shopped into existence.
Seriously, everyone can make a fake leak, and some idiot (like that LaxChris sperg I posted awhile back) will blindly accept it as fact.
2nd fighter Klonoa, 3rd fighter is Blaze the Cat, 4th character is Banjo-Kazooie, & 5th character is Bandanna Dee.

2nd fighter: Little Bill
3rd fighter: Ricky Winterborn
4th character: Clippy
5th character: Serena Williams

I never really liked leaks all that much. I like being surprised. I found out about Joker after getting home from picking up Smash Ultimate at the midnight release, seeing the thumbnail of the trailer on YouTube and immediately thinking “Oh that’s neat, there’s a Persona 5 song on Ultima-wait.....”

Personally, I just hate all these stupid fake leaks and the idiots that decide to believe them.
Seriously, there's like a fake Smash leak every time somebody sneezes.
I mean, just look at this, for crying out loud.

Notice how the 64 and Melee sections are significantly smaller and 4's and Ultimate's. That is no coincidence. The rise of the internet and social media in particular has made it so that any attention whore will try to pull this unfunny stunt to get their fifteen minutes of fame. And the Smash Bros. community is stupid enough to actually give these people the attention they don't deserve, just because of the logic that "it MIGHT be legit".
Seriously, that is just dumb. Far dumber than people falling over the "Sonic in Melee" April Fools prank by EGM; at least that was from a legit gaming magazine, and not some clickbaity douchebag with USI on Reddit, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, any of chans, etc.

Marss made a big deal out of some guy yelling shit but I can somewhat understand him getting up. In most tourneys you are allowed to pause if you are on the respawn platform and need to get a TO's attention, which was indeed the case here. However, the pause feature is turned off here and their outdated GC controllers don't have a home button, so there is no way to stop the gameplay. The TO wasn't nearby (apparently he was dealing with other matters) and so the only way to get him in this situation would be to leave the game. The delay after that was partially stemmed from Marss's intentions being unclear. If pausing was on then this would've probably been resolved in a cleaner way. I personally believe Marss walking away should be a dq, especially for such minor reasons, but the poor organization is also to blame.

There's also a deleted tweet from Wishes saying he listened to the crowd and won in a previous match, but that doesn't prove collusion. Apparently he heard someone tell him to use Flare Blitz, which is a super hype and risky move, so it's more than likely he's just yelling random shit and got lucky. This isn't a huge venue so you are going to hear random stuff like this.
