Lasting 15 years is insane. They should be happy it lasted as long as it did. The only other games I can think of that lasted as long in the tournament scene are Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo. But that's because, you know, it's fucking Street Fighter 2. The ultimate version of the game that popularized fighters in the first place. And maybe Street Fighter 3: 3rd Strike which has made a resurgence with the Co-Op Cup in Japan.

Not to say Melee wouldn't have been removed anyway, but maybe no one wanted to watch Fox vs. Jigglypuff at the EVO grand finals again?

I know we are pointing and laughing but i just want to say that Melee being dropped is completely justified and anyone upset by this is unreasonable at best and retarded at worst. Reasons Evo had to drop melee:

-crt monitors and gamecubes: Imagine having to rent dozens of heavy ass old tvs and dead game consoles just because players dont want to play with extra 0.3 frame of lag. That takes a lot of time, money and space.

-Melee takes forever: 8 minute long rounds with 4 lifes and the pros have the dare to ask for best of 5 top 8 lol. Imagine watching hungrybox stall a ledge for over one hour. All this time generates heavy delays for other games.

-It's a solved game: It's the same top 8 every time with same 3-4 characters. It's been like that for a decade and it's not going to change. It doesnt matter if the views are huge, you're watching the same thing every year. I think anyone who isnt a fan would rather watching something new.

-Give niche games a chance: The UNIst fandom is fairly small but all the FGC is happy for them because the game was always good but never had a chance in the mainstream market. Thanks to BBTAG and the community spreading the word, it has grown a lot and it's finally getting the love it deserves. Samsho also deserves a chance based on legacy alone, it's older than Smash btw.
