Yet there are several Indie fighters out there already.
 
I personally love me some Smash. I have an old GameCube that I picked up from a used game store, and I have Melee and two GameCube controllers. However, I'm still waiting for Ultimate (which I already pre-ordered on Amazon). Melee, while it can be fun with friends, is fairly stale at this point, like the 4chan thread ChineseEarthquake shared. Ultimate is gonna be way more of a joyride, it'll be packed with enough content to keep me holed up until the actual holidays, and I also like that they brought back the MP3 feature from the 3DS version.

What is this obsession with gross weirdos demanding underage cartoon girls be put in smash? Even if they use the excuse of an indie game character, they're not exactly advocating for the whole team.
You don't see people demand rusty or piper from steamworld.
You don't see people demand bolverk or iver from the banner saga.
You don't see people demand the spirit from dead cells.
You see a few people demand shovel Knight and shield Knight, but not nearly as much as shantae.

I'm going to chalk it down to creepy perverts wanted little cartoon girls in this game because they have boobs.

Shantae's a fucking indie character though. Her chances of getting in are unlikely at best. Poor Shovel Knight was just an assist trophy. Shantae was mostly obscure until the last few years. It's like asking for Lilac, Carol or Milla from Freedom Planet to get a fighter spot, and FP came out the same time as Shovel Knight.

Or Gunvolt who is Indie as well or Quote from Cave Story.

I love Shantae and her games and the loud and vocal fans are just as bad as that guy who demands the Project x Zone characters to be in Smash.

Does Smash have some sort of magical brain cell zapping power or something?

In my opinion, Nintendo opened the floodgates when they included Cloud, a character with little to no history with Nintendo and appears on one game for Nintendo systems (Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories).

Sure you had Snake and Sonic beforehand, but Snake had a longer history with Nintendo, especially in the States, and Sonic is kind of self-explanatory. But Cloud is a third party character that is almost completely separate from Nintendo's history and yet he made it into Smash. I don't think it's that big a stretch to want to include characters from indie games, especially with how much more popular they've gotten since 2014. Plus they have included reference to indie games before; there's a trophy in Brawl for Bit.Trip protagonist.

That said, it is extremely exceptional to get all bent out of shape over a character not making it into a game like Smash Bros, especially since the game's already coming with 70+ characters.

Yet people want more. Only FF games on the 3DS Cloud was in were those two music games and the Monster Hunter Rip off. Sure, spregs will only care for someone who is "cool" and brooding and not give a fuck on iconic characters like the WoL, Black Mage or Terra. Hell, a Chocobo would of been a neat fighter imo.

The Bit.Trip trophy is there due to a contract with Mario's VA. He is the annoucer for the Runner series and is playable in Runner3.
 
One Thing I would like to add about Cloud being in Smash; even though his presence on Nintendo systems was very minor prior to Sm4sh, Cloud and Final Fantasy VII is still iconic enough to at least justify his inclusion, which is more than I can say for Shantae, Ashley, and any Project X character.
