They were, i used to post on a Nintendo forum back then, but you're still right, many Metal Gear fans were also upset, they didn't like the idea of a "serious" character like Snake being in party game, but it was fun for a while seeing the butthurt from both sides
Have those "fans" ever played a Metal Gear? The whole point of the cardboard box in MGS in the first place was that a plain old cardboard box looked wildly out of place in a game that was mostly metal bases and snow but you could still successfully hide in it. Not to mention the skateboarding and capturing cartoon monkeys with sirens on their heads that were in the games already.

If somebody deserves a representative in Smash Is Bethesda with Doom Guy/ Doomslayer, not only is he iconic as fuck, but bethesda been the most suportive western 3rd party to Switch (comung from being one of the biggest criticizers of WiiU)
Doom Guy is actually a relatively popular fan request, especially how iconic he is. He actually makes sense, too. But the people who want him aren't screeching to have him in the game.

It's funny. The more fitting and deserving a character, the less people flip their lid when they're not in the game.

Also, re: Ashley fans:

One thing I'll never understand is how little appreciation people have for the music in this game.
Like, jesus, the vampire slayer remix was awesome and k.rool's theme made donkey Kong as a franchise badass again.
I'd buy a switch and the game for that 900 piece soundtrack alone.

It's because most of them just like the games to be the "IM SUCH A NERD xdd"
They usually only have played Mario and LoZ. Most people I knew who liked smash never actually played the other characters games, only heard about the characters and only like the music from Mario and LoZ. Not able to appreciate the other music because they have no ties to the games (and GRR THEY TOOK MY WAIFUS SLOT!!!)
Now it's all FE fagdom because Fates and terrible waifus. One thing that irks me is them expecting a third party character to be playable and deserving of a slot, like I wouldn't mind Travis Touchdown as a character but I know he isn't from Nintendo themselves or a guest character like Snake who is a Sony icon and Sonic as Sega's but I live with it.

These people are always going to act like petulant children.

Character aside im more eager to know is who would be in as Bosses. Would be reslly cool (and extensive) is we were to grt a boss from all the major franchises.

LoZ: Majora or Demise
Mgs: Solidus or MGRay
Pokemon: whatever name ultrabeast at the end of USUM
Megaman: Sigma
Star Fox: Andros
Kirby: Nightmare
Fire Emblem: Generic Evil Dragon

I'd honestly love a Jeanne echo fighter, or maybe even Akira from Persona 5, but I know there's no chance in hell for either of those appearing in smash, and I sure as hell won't bitch about my favorite waifu and jeanne not getting into smash like a fucking neanderthal, and at the very least I know one thing that everyone of these smash fags can't seem to figure out even though it is plain and simple, you can mod the game once it's released

> Wanting Goku in Smash

You know, people who want Goku are the most interesting of the bunch to me, i mean, with people who want a somewhat obscure character like Ashley or Geno, you can tell at least some of them are sincere about their character being playable, despite how autistic they can react when said character is revealed to be an assist trophy or not being in the game at all, people who want stupid characters like Shrek, you can tell they're just fucking around and are just doing it for the memes, but people who want Goku..., i don't know, i just can't tell if they're serious or not, the idea of an anime/manga character in smash is laughable to say the least, but anime fans can be really autistic at times
I don't remember where I heard but during 3DS/Wii U the reason that people who are requesting Goku are serious is because Bandai Namco publishes the Dragon Ball games and Bandai Namco also are helping develop Smash Bros. Similar to how Pac-man is playable ins Smash Bros.

I also remember seeing this during 3DS/Wii U. Some people would say Snake does not belong because he "does not fit" which was always weird to me. All these characters are from different universes with different norms, none of these characters are supposed to fit.

Considering DOOM has some history on Nintendo consoles, with games released on SNES, N64, GBA and Switch, and the fact DOOM is pretty relevant nowadays thanks to DOOM 2016 and the upcoming DOOM eternal, i find hard for Doomguy/Doomslayer not to be included as a playable character, even the excuse of "DOOM is an M rated franchise, it can't be represented in Smash!" doesn't work anymore, not with characters such as Bayonetta and Snake in the roster, hell it even makes sense from a marketing perspective, a playable Doomslayer in Smash would be a pretty good advertising for DOOM Eternal on Switch

Apparently there was more autism this past weekend at SmashCon (imagine the smell), this time in Semi-Finals. Two Bowser players just kept hitting B at the same time and canceling each others moves, this went on for about a minute and they even started taking selfies with each other.
I think the debate about whether Smash is a fighting game or a party game has been decided after what happened at EVO and now SmashCon.

It's a party game that speds turned into one due to sucking at actual fighting games and having an autism fit over fanfiction essentially. Oh, and I just had an idea I came up with for a policy that FGCs can have for when they inevitably run over the clock for their exhibition since they do that all the fucking time: cut the power to that station and force them off if they can't be arsed to finish after a warning period has passed.

Cons and speaking tours do that shit, so why not?

You've seen the Ashley salt. Now be prepared for Shantae salt, a series which, while being around longer than Shovel Knight, is unquestionably not as popular as Shovel Knight yet for some reason deserves a spot higher than an Assist Trophy.

Also some backstory. Ridley is mocked in Japan because he was overwhelmingly an American favorite, reflective of how the Metroid series isn't particularly favored in Japan, who typically dislikes first person shooters (although the Japanese were receptive of the earlier games which were side scrollers). This is especially true since Prime was produced by an American company (or British, either way it's a Western company). King K Rool and Donkey Kong were also only very popular in America, and the Japanese are especially annoyed since K Rool was produced by Rare, a European company. Because of this, it's a common perception that the filthy Western gaijins are claiming spots on the roster like they were territories in Africa and wasting spots for popular Japanese games that nobody's heard of out of Japan.

This has caused a lot of Japanese players to make "fan art" of Ridley in Captain America costumes in mockery of this.

Jokes on them it's almost impossible to mock America's hyper-patriotism.

Imagine the salt levels if Shadow and Isabelle show up as fighters (even as echo fighters), with Shantae as an assist trophy? It would be round 3 of assist trophy salt.
But the best part is that they WILL get salty no matter what, considering the whining over Ridley, Simon, & K. Rool.

If Shantae gets in, this bitch probably wouldn't even play as her. I mean, you can't play with just one free hand.

Those drawings are pretty funny, but not so much mocking since they just show Ridley being part of the much superior nationality and they know it, jokes on them. It's not like how we enjoy mocking anime and other shit by them being for virgins because it's well known Oriental men especially Japanese are too cucked or scared to get laid.

Ah yes K Rool who is
-The main villain of a major nintendo franchise
-Has been a part of nintendo for over 20 years
-Has been one of the most heavily requested character to be in smash
-First appearance was a critical and finacial smash hit for nintendo

Shouldn't be in smash over Shantae, a character who
-Has only recently gotten popular
-Wasn't even the most requested indie rep
-Has no real connection to nintendo
-Unlike someone like Cloud, a 3rd party rep with no connection to nintendo, Shantae also isn't iconic enough to be in smash

Lol okay

Funniest thing is, i'm pretty sure no one is offended by those drawings, well, to be fair, maybe that wasn't their intention, but in the best case scenario, this will spawn a new meme
Japan has this weird love-hate relationship with America. On the one hand, you have a very strong nationalistic sentiment that runs through much of their society (especially the older generations) that really longs for the days of Nihon Teitoku and leads them to do silly shit like rewrite WWII to be "The Japanese were minding their own business until the EVIL WESTERNERS FORCED our peace-loving nation into war, which we of course were better at than anyone else due to BLAZING YAMATO SPIRIT until the West COWARDLY bombed us, Japan dindu nuffin, what's a war crime?" and portray their Self-Defense Forces (which are mostly a benefits program for NEETs who want to play with helicopters) as being on par with DEVGRU. But on the other hand, you also get characters that are cartoonishly American who are portrayed as heroic and endearing, like All Might from My Hero Academia (Japan's top hero, who inexplicably dresses in red, white, and blue, frequently shouts various catchphrases in English, and has a variety of "special moves" named after American states).
