Grissom, White and Chaffee died that way in Apollo 1 because of a pure oxygen environment and a spark. Stuff that would have been a slow burn at most in normal air practically exploded, specifically Velcro.
Yeah, 1 atmosphere of pure O2 is an inferno. A lot of pure oxygen environments were partial pressure. 5 psi in capsules and 4.3 psi in eva/space suits. I think the Grissom/White/Chafee fire was at 14psi.
In air they’re stable; in pure O2 they arre fire starters.
