The fact that he said he's sure he won't be alive for his next court hearing proves this is all a lie. As far as the diseases brought on by alcoholism, cirrhosis kills too slowly, and he would be too fucked up if it was esophageal varices (a horrific way to die where you slowly choke to death on your own blood due to vein lesions that develop deep in your esophagus.)

My guess is a lawyer told him there's no way to escape doing at least a few years. He's not willing to accept that, which is not his prerogative if he has and supports a child.

If a man runs for the hills when told "I love you" he's doing everyone a favor by not stringing her along for another moment. It also means he's possibly immature if it's a good woman.

But...If you find a humble woman who gives you what you need, doesn't cheat or play games, why bother leaving? Aww you're not perfectly attracted to her? You've already won the lottery, the love will come later. So glad I allowed my own wife to talk me into it, even though it took a year. I wasn't worth all that.

Not to mention the withdrawal alone could kill him if he stops abruptly. It's just sus that he knows he's dying before court. Maybe he's going to take his own death and move to Medellin.
