So tell me where I was wrong. Yeah, I did complain about the field because I work in it. Tell me what you've actually done in real life that went into production and stayed there for more than a decade, not just playing with stuff on a sandbox or learning buzzwords from classes. In my experience CISO are bureaucrats or managers. They look at checklists, give demands, demand other people do the work. They often don't understand the things they demand others do. They just repeat the buzzwords and mantras that were drilled into their skull in lectures and classes.

Its worse than you think, I was interviewing a CS grad coming into one of the Magnificent 8 companies I'm a wagie for (full time WFH thats why) - this CS grad was coming from UC Berkeley and for the fun of it I asked if he knew what BSD stood for. He said "no." He has a high GPA too. I said, you ever hear of Berkeley Software Distribution? "No." I then explained without BSD and that stuff being open the viral spread of *nix and Linux would have been stifled and proprietary toolchains would have hung around a lot longer - basically, his school and Berkeley XCF had an important role in tech history. Also asked some questions about networking inside a container and realized these people live in a world so abstract from reality its ridiculous.
Then I went to https://xcf.berkeley.edu/ and realized the certificate had expired - that made me feel like time out of place.
What world is this?

Actually, @monk is saying exactly what I need to hear to know he has a real job and works in the tech industry making dependable reliable systems. We used to have contests on how long boxes would stay up - I had a pair of NIS servers (heavily used) on Solaris stay up for 5 years, and I had one of the first 10 gigabit switches go down, the bug? After 999 days of uptime, something overflowed and forced a control plane reboot. mind you the data plane forwarding while the control plane was down still worked.

I think the vibe here, if you arent obsessively teaching yourself and are going for a rubber stamp degree and going through the motions of becoming a security tech worker then you are another brick in the wall. If you can go deep and try and become the real deal. Real deal security is difficult to master.

I have not discounted his experiences, but he wanted to spergout in the way he presented the information and bring gender shit into it, upon first sharing on the subject.

It seems like he's had to talk a lot about that subject. The world values talkers, instead of doers.
That's probably why tarl has had any success.
