Septuagint means 70. You should realize that biblical canon exists in Catholic, Protestant (with and without Scofield) and Orthodoxy because there are many texts that contribute to mainline biblical canon and they need to be curated, translated pared down and pruned to create a coherent text.

There is no "Dead Sea Scrolls", no singular "Septuagint" in the modern sense, there are piles of scrolls, fragments, stories, copies in many languages that start to tell a story. Canonical stories exist because given the size of the world and the number of contributing languages there tends to be a convergence - a deblurring, with so many copies, angles, etc, there are decent sized chunks of the biblical canon that overlap to the point where different sources, some separated by hundreds of years, sometimes thousands, begin to tell a coherent story.

You must also realize that ancient Hebrew, Aramaic, Greek, Latin and Syriac all contribute to the canon, and that these languages evolved over the 4000 year saga, meaning depending on the period of being written, the context of the period is required to get the right meaning out of the texts. Its like if a modern nigger was to try to talk to William Shakespeare at times - or even you trying to read Beowulf in old English these texts need to be understood as period pieces.

In other words people way smarter than us have for thousands of years have been working on looking at the ancient texts to get the right meaning from them, and some come-lately going back and trying to make sense of a 3500 year old original fragment is going to be wildly difficult. And luckily due to the millennia long obsession with translating the bible a ton of ancient texts have the required context to make sense of them now, but its hardly a trivial affair.

The idea you are going to get some printed version of these and be the first to derive new insight on what they say and mean without serious study is a bit rich.

Later, Caesar's successors (starting with Augustus) finished the main library off by simply stealing all the books to furnish public libraries in Rome and for their own collections. After that, earthquakes destroyed a number of the buildings, including the Library, the Palace, Alexander the Great's tomb, and the Royal Mausoleum where Cleopatra, Anthony, and Cleopatra's unfortunate brothers were buried.

I don't recall seeing anyone arguing that the Library was mythological and never existed, only arguing over the exact nature of what happened to it.

Given Roman efficiencies and sensibilities, makes sense. Rome was the great attractor , great assimilator, it was for all to see they borrowed all the gems from Greece. I like this way of interpreting the end of the Library of Alexandria. You have prompted me to want to research this further. I never knew there was a possibility it wasnt lost wholesale, but upon hearing this, it makes sense - certainly plausible.
