Steam has an obscene first-mover advantage which has compounded into an actual legal natural monopoly by a mean of a superior product.
Calling it a "lite" monopoly is underselling it.
Steam is like a rockerfellers monopoly on oil but instead of being straight up evil and providing shit service they basically strangle the competition through kindness/pure competence to the point you’d be stupid not to support them.

Steam only struggles in providing an actual proper social media aspect. Steam forums suck, the Steam chat sucks utter ass now, Steam community is a bunch of stolen content that makes Reddit blush, and the entire community function needs to be reworked. Steams community aspect used to be good with many actual active groups and forums with useful information buts its utterly ass now

Also there is only 1 issue with valve and since I know most people who use these forums don't mention it but its their loot box system specifically the one made for CSGO

>oh but loot boxes are bad but its a sin we must live with bro

Yes, however people just do not know how truly evil the system it is. Every oldfag here thinks it all works like TF2 still and it hasn't for years. They cracked down heavily on loot box drops in general its all to feed the economy they have fucking psychologists and economists on this shit .

A quick tldr of why valve loot boxes are bad and are even worse than say EAs sports shit

>Valve didnt disclose drop rates for years until they were forced to
>Valve loot boxes do not have a "pity" aka say after 100 boxes you will be given a super rare drop out of pity you could theoretically open 1000 crates and never get a knife
>CS knives are subject at least 4 forms of RNG (The type of knife you get, the "wear" of the knife either being brand new or looking like shit, the pattern of the skin on the knife uses, and then sometimes specific camos are subject to their own RNG patterns)
>Their inability to never actually take down third party websites because if that happens the prices of knives will all TANK (that recent knife drama that happened? It was a nothing burger the prices are still absurd)
>CS crates do not drop as easy as they used to you could end up playing up to $20 to even UNBOX ITEMS!

The entire economy aspect is utterly disgusting it’s the actual blemish on their record. Thats the true villainy of Valve it’s none of this store front drama. You effectively need to be ready to drop $500 if you wanna get into cs shit

Steam being a lite social-media with large developer microphones and a big indie scene causes interesting posts like this. You usually only hear from developers that succeeded but rarely the ones who failed.

There are so many more and they are fucking hilarious. I'd love to share some I've seen but don't want to powerlevel (games that like 2 people have purchased). Hopefully someone else will eventually.

Some extra elaboration: Dude made a horror game, Antumbra, that got good views when Markiplier played it about 10 years ago. About 4 years ago, he begins to work on a sequel. Then in 2024 he stops because its a financial hole.

Not sure what he expected. Doesn't help he's trying to make money off of a horror point and click VN, which is ripe for people watching on youtube and not actually buying. He did do another steam update so who knows if things are fully over.

It was also a pretty good retsufrash series.
I wouldn't call it a good game but definately an interesting one.

Wait wait wait I'm even more confused now

This dude quit his dream job and spent 50k (American?) of his own money making a point and click game?

What happened in the mid 2000's to make anyone who wanted to design a game fucking retarded when it came to budget and profit projection? It feels like both AAA and Indies cannot produce a game in a reasonable timeframe or for a reasonable budget anymore.

Ah yes, its all coming to me, this game. Its a flash "choose your own adventure" type of game, and to its credit I do remember being impressed at the very outside the box thinking required to beat its challenges, on the other side, said challenges felt like they walked a fine line between being clever and requiring some logical reasoning and outside the box thinking and being "haha lol, you ded, go back to the start because of something you couldnt have possibly predicted, not even mentioning when they bring RNG on if a choice will kill you or not."

It was just an interesting flash game worth wasting maybe an hour on or something until you quickly moved on when it dawned on you there is a new Eddsworld episode to watch. But apparently the creator wanted to really make something more complex and intrique out of it? Idk, there just wasnt anything to really build out of this.

I guess what Im trying to say that altho the creator could have done something interesting maybe, its been what? Almost 2 decades since the original came out on freaking newgrounds? And he has nothing to show significant (or else we would have gotten the word of this game by now) for it?

Either he is that shit at his job or Im not buying his self pity talk. And there is something oddly cathartic to see the guy that made nonsense moon logic puzzles that wasted your time now being a drama whore bitching that no one cares for his game that no one younger than 25 will even remember lol

STEAM HAS FUCKING BANNED THE JESTER STICKER?
They can't fucking get away with this dude....

Valve is legit just the fun police now, they won't make video games, they won't update their existing games, but they will go out of their way to remove funny stuff like this. Awards also don't give points to the recipient anymore, which begs the question of why do they need to cost points.

That's what I'm saying, if the problem really is "Clown farming" or "Jester farming", then simply remove the points awarded for the sticker.

But it's not about that. Clown stickers are used to call out fanboy dicksuckin' faggots and bullshit reviews of woke games and that's really why they are gone.
It's about ethics in clown stickering

And reactions to shitty updates from games themselves.

For example: Why did this get so many jesters? Because one fucking medal is not a content update. This isn't a new map. This isn't a new feature. This isn't a new gun. Not even new skins for retards to foam at the mouth over and try to speculate prices for.
