The price hike of 2022/23 because of the currency conversion.
To this day, Polish złoty is one of the worst affected currencies to the point where there is an entire campaign by the name of Polish Our Prices that urges publishers on Steam to do what Valve should've done and set the exchange rate to something sane, not the peak of COVID inflation from 2022. You'd be better off still using Euros like you had before PLN was officially added to Steam today because the exchange rates set by Valve are so unfair.

Well, games like that exists from a long time.
Anybody remembers Leisure Suit Larry? That's the best example of slapstick comedy mixed with softporn.

Games like LSL at least had a charm to them and this old school self awareness from classic point and clicks. And it was still an actual game.

We all know what kind of games Im refering when I say "gooner games", the ones that started with porn openly in mind and usually play like rather mediocre asset flip games with rewards normally being new outfits for the females.

As eyerolling as they can be, I still much rather stick with them than powerhungry busy buddies who WILL come for other games if they are allowed to get away with it.
I miss when you could actually customise the steam client with skins valve officially supported now that feature is gone after the big client update that happened a while ago.

If I had a nickel for everytime an update removed the ability for users to customize their own online pages, I'd have two nickels.

It's shit, but there's nothing better on offer. Kinda like democracy.
Seriously, I bought D4 on Battlenet and refunded it when the download speed refused to go above 100 kilobytes per second. D4 is a 120 GB game. That would have been over FOURTEEN DAYS of fucking downloading, which coincidentally is their refund deadline (that or sub 2 hours of gameplay).
Steam downloaded the thing in under an hour.

Wtf. Is that possible?
Steam takes near 90% of your bandwith if you have the proper connections.

There is one worrying trend that I've been informed of recently.
Apparently, their review team has been causing trouble for anime-style games. They've been refusing to approve titles like "Inner Truth", "AUTOMATION WEST", "Sweet Hamster Days" and (most notably), Inti Creates's "Majogami". Apparently they even attempted to decline a big Spike-Chunsoft game before the publisher leaned on them.

There's rumors that it's literally just one person with a grudge but this is all hearsay.
I thought it was the payment processors twisting Valve’s arm? Regardless, the day Gaben dies/Steam goes public PC gaming is going to become absolute NiggerAIDS like the rest of the industry,

it partially is but it's still fucking retarded. there's a lot of "offensive" games on steam that don't get hit as badly as anime style games. like I 100% get not wanting lolisho content on your platform but the bar has been placed in such a weird spot.
Steam is the lesser of two evils, I haven't seen any actual proof of DEI/Bridge unlike CDPR beginning to bend over backwards for their tranny overlords around the time Cyberpunk finally released.
I'm not fond of payment processors shitting themselves and wanting censorship in the name of morality and ethics. But I would rather sacrifice my UwU cute lolis in a japanese visual novel, than whatever this is:

This image does sums up their newest shitshow

didnt even hear about this, and now i am unreasonably mad. not that it was censored since all pronographers deserve the death penalty but because of how tame it is compared to half of the indian programmed ai slop porn on steam that is allowed to stay up
i wish steam had stayed resolute on their morals and never allowed pornography games onto the platform in the first place, how disgusting that its come to this.

One day Gabe Newell will die and we will beg for the old Steam back from the undoubtedly selfish clutches of whoever inherits it.
I love Steam(as much as you can love the product of a corporate entity) and mostly view Valve as a sort of lawful neutral kind of entity. It's the best storefront in terms of the feautres it provides but at the end of the day it is still a DRM layer and we do not have a way to secure the real ownership of the thousands of games we own on the platform if it were to cease existing.

I heard the same thing about this as well. Apparently it's some dangerhair. As for Steam itself, what do you use notes for? I mainly use it to make lists for fixes and mods to install.
I use steam notes for helpful links, WIP (forever) reviews, other game notes, or game order for certain series when its not obvious.

If I really want to search for games, I normally go to steamdb which I think works a bit better. I haven't had as much problems as others, but Steam search is still not great. Definitely wish there was more tags for things like Survivor type games or if the related games was better.
I also don't mind the new-ish layout, though I kinda wish something like steamgridb was native so I could have art for older games without needing to manually get it. Though at least Steamgrid makes it much easier.

I'll be curious how long it takes Steam to degenerate as soon as Gabe passes/fully retires. Maybe in the past they might've had something to remove DRM in case Steam flopped, but I agree that it probably wouldn't happen now.

There are a couple things that have kind of indicated to me that Valve is slowly on it's way out. None of them are particularly offensive on their own, but when combined...
  • TF2 basically being completely abandoned
  • CS2 being almost abandoned. No, I am not talking about the skin prices. For a company with basically infinite money the updates are slow as FUCK.
  • Censorship and payment processor mafia.
  • The belief (and explicit statements in the TOS) that buying =/= owning. This is the one that makes me MATI the most.
  • Recently I tried the new server browser for CS2, I don't know when they changed it but the new one sucks dick and is bugged. The filter to show servers your friends are on straight up does not work lol.
  • They straight up do not make video games anymore, except for Deadlock, a soulless third person shooter that got completely cucked by Marvel Rivals. Even before Marvel Rivals came out, I was like what the fuck is this? This is what you've been working on this whole time? These are not the same people who made Portal.
It's not all bad. They do still make good, useful features like the background recording and the FPS overlay. I'm not ready to delete my account or anything like that. But personally I'm a lot less comfortable spending money on steam than I was 3-4 years ago.

They're also putting less effort into DOTA 2, as TI Battle Passes are no longer a thing so the prize pools have dropped like a rock, and they put less effort into TI itself.

Also, with Valve's recent blunders, have the other game marketplaces tried to make improvements, or are they also choosing to stay awful, i.e. EA's dogshit EA App.

I know this isn't the best indicator of Steam's future on its own, but has Gaben been seen anywhere since he made that video delivering Steam Decks a few years ago? I know he was supposed to appear at the oversight hearing, which I was looking forward to - because I wanted to see what Gaben's attitude towards Steam customers in 2025 would be like, and not because the hearing would have actually accomplished anything.
