I was trying to find a video with a segment about allegations of Chuckelfish exploiting volunteers, but got this cursed shit.

WHY

The allegations are that they took advantage of and mistreated a lot of the volunteers they used during Starbound's development, many of them being teenagers who put "hundreds of hours of work", keeping them on the line with the idea that some of them may get jobs, but none of them did. (Article) Defenders of them stress that they never guaranteed anyone jobs and therefore didn't do anything wrong while the other side stresses that they took advantage of novices to the industry who didn't realise they were being exploited. It's claimed the reason Starbound has "spaghetti code" is in part because of them cycling through so many volunteers, along with one of the lead devs leaving through the beta's development.

There's another allegation against Chucklefish that was posted on /v/. It surrounds a puppy they bought for their office. It goes that they bought the puppy and made a big deal of it on social media. The puppy's bed was nearby active wires, which it then chewed on and died. Rather than admit to it and apologise, they bought a new puppy of similar appearence to cover it up. There was nothing about it on DuckDuckGo or Bing and the search feature on 4chan isn't working, so there's not any evidence to the claims.

There was an argument between the creator of Frackin' Universe, Sayter and the creator of BetaBound, Silver Sokolova along with 2 others.

It started on October 21st with user Monty444 uploading Frackin' Species, a mod that adds races unique to Frackin' as standalone races.

Now with A LOT of new colors for each race!
All species have full tier custom ships. Peglaci, Mantizi, and Nightar have full custom armor sets. (All tiers)

Again, this is an updated and compiled race mod with old and new content, including modifications and additions added by myself. The intent of this mod is to simply give users the option to use similar races to the ones that are integrated into what is the absolutely abysmal and deliberately incompatible mod "FrackinUniverse".

All well and good to use the ones that don't belong to the team and it's contributors. Any FU exclusive must be removed, as they are not free to distribute in this manner. The Veluuish, Xi/Radien, Thelusian, Pharitu and Elduukar were not provided permission to use, nor was any attempt made to ask. Likewise, did you ask the dev for the Vanta, which as still updated ?

The creator of Betabound responded.

You claim my argument is that I own API calls, why is a conclusion only either a liar or braindead moron would come to. You are a complete and utter failure of both a human being and a modder. For years, you needed to go and pillage a shoddily made Terraria clone's workshop to stroke your withering ego. You and your people claim that FU is the only thing keeping Starbound alive, yet you implemented intentional crashes for my swim mod in an attempt to protect yourself and stomp out a new modder, intentionally added Betabound to the FU incompatibility list (the list with "Only add mods that have been proven to be incompatible" on it) while stating that you had no interest in even verifying if the reporter had Betabound or FU installed (and blocked me when I politely informed you of your mistake, deleted my message, and stated that it was an attempt to cause drama), laughed with fellow FU staff about blocking my mods and justifying it using racism, and you claim the OpenStarbound (a community-led passion project) devs threatened you with malware, you say oSB is a piece of garbage despite never trying it.


You ever played 'Super Paper Mario'? If you did, you probably never got to the part I'm about to mention, since you'd have to play as a woman to get that far (and, based on all the sexist comments you've made about me- sexual assault and pregnancy fantasies, saying I bribe people with my body to go against you, etc, you'd smash the disc and say it bricked your console): there's a part where the player is asked if "I love going on message boards and complaining about games I've never played" applies to them. That's you with OpenStarbound. You're a Starbound anti-vaxxer.

Nor do I even know what sprites were taken and for what purpose, as the credits are unspecific on what was used other than "sprites".


I was being civil and polite, and defending the content created by artists on my team. The fact of the matter is the content in question belongs to contributors from the team - they - made it, - they - added it, and - they - don't want it anywhere else. It's that simple. I'm not here for sympathy points or to start a fight - you took things that are theirs, didn't ask, repackaged it and distributed it.

This isn't about me, its about them.


Well I can at least attest that the creator of the Juux, renamed Pharitu after a falling out with Sayter, definitely wanted a stand alone version of their mod. The falling out related to that stand alone version.
Perhaps you could even revert their name to it and maybe restore some of their changes such as the fact they used to have four eyes instead of none.

At this point, it's kind of obvious this was made just to bait Sayter. He likely realized it too, because this was his last post before dropping out.

This links to a Discord screenshot of them discussing forcing Silver and another modder named GayMonsterDad to breed so they can drown their offsrping and blame it on them.

I looked at archiving it on WebArchive to find archives had apparently already been made of it, in December of 2024 and in August of this year, though they redirect to imgur's front page. (Archive)

Silver then links a Google Documents about Sayter.

It's not even unusual for me to help with mods. One mod I've helped with is Arcana, which Sayter baselessly claimed I'd false DMCA in order to get it removed (during the height of its 'wow new cool mod!' phase when it first came out, no less) because "she's jealous they can code better than her", which is odd because I'm a contributor on Arcana for code. But facts don't matter to Sayter!

Speaking of facts, everyone here should let me know what they think of this document.

The document accuses Sayter of stealing Silver's code and intentionally making the mod he stole it from incompatible with Frackin'. It also contains screenshots from Sayter's Discord server. I have copied and pasted it the best I could into KF, but I chose to use screenshots for the code since the indentation would break when copied in. It is viewable in it's raw form on the document itself or the archive.

This document (version 2) shows that Sayter is quite dishonest when it comes to the theft of Silver Sokolova's 'Improved Swim Physics' mod. Please read and understand it before attempting to defend Sayter. The main argument by Silver Sokolova is that Sayter stole her mod, and that after being called out for theft, Sayter changed the stolen code in such a way that appears to be original by Sayter but is in fact based on Silver's original code. Silver argues that Sayter disingenuously based his code on hers, working backwards from her 'conclusion' rather than researching how to create a similar effect himself. Sayter (possibly intentionally) misinterprets this claim as Silver stating she owns the base-game API calls used, which is not Silver's argument. The issue is that Sayter would rather steal code and attempt to make it look like his own than invest time into learning how to make such code, in addition to Sayter's false claims about Silver.
Evidence of Theft

Around December of 2019, Sayter downloaded the 'Improved Swim Physics' mod from the Chucklefish Forums (the Chucklefish Forums version has not been updated since the incident and thus can be used to compare code) and implemented the entirety of the mod's code (mixed with vanilla code, plus a custom 'applyBonusSpeed' function) into Frackin Universe. You can view a snapshot of the code in Frackin Universe at the time here (Wayback Machine link)
This is the code from Improved Swim Physics at the time:

As to be expected for one someone's first mods, the indentation and readability leaves much to be desired. The indentation is how many spaces are used at the beginning of each line. In the 'update' function, the first, seventh, eighth, and ninth lines use spaces for their indentation, while the second through sixth lines use tabs. The lines which use tabs are the 'effect.modifyDuration' and 'mcontroller.controlParameters' lines and their arguments.

Here is a relevant portion of the 'update' function from Frackin Universe's swim script at the time:

Take a look at the "if mcontroller.liquidPercentage() >= 0.62 then" line. Notice how the lines which were blatantly copy-pasted from Silver's mod are indented far more than other lines. This is because they use tabs instead of spaces, and the length of tabs vary depending on your editor. Nowhere else in the script are tabs used except for the parts copy-pasted from Silver's script. Note the useless 'effect.expire()' which is inherited from Silver's code. This does nothing because effects given by liquids begin their duration timer once the player exits the liquid. This has no reason to be inherited from Silver's code because the swimming status effect has a short duration, and is constantly refreshed by the game's engine (not the Lua script) just by being in liquid. Likewise, the 'effect.modifyDuration' is intended to make a status effect eternal by adding more time to its duration, but status effects given by liquids have their duration refreshed while in the liquid and thus duration is irrelevant in this instance, especially considering that the effect does nothing when the player is not submerged. Same deal as the last one. These lines persist in all instances of Sayter's "original" code, despite him claiming to have written this code independent of Silver's code. There is no reason for Sayter to add these lines, much less for them to mysteriously have the same indentation issues as Silver's. This indicates that Sayter dishonestly worked backwards from Silver's code, even after Silver requested him not to use her code.
Evidence of Intentional Game Crash

After being called out by Silver for plagiarism, Sayter rewrote the swim code to appear original and linked an English Essay Plagiarism Detector for the non-English non-essay he plagiarised, which vouched for Sayter's authenticity (despite being the wrong tool for the job, and a tool picked by Sayter no less. Why would he pick a plagiarism detector that calls him out?). However, the aforementioned useless calls (effect.modifyDuration and effect.expire) were still present, indicating that Sayter based this code on Silver's rather than learning how to create such code himself (as explained in more detail in the previous section). In addition, Sayter made Frackin Universe crash the game if Silver's original mod was installed. The crash is intentional and is not a result of both mods attempting to add the same thing, as whichever mod loaded last would overwrite the same files added by the other mod. In fact, this 'file overwriting' is done by both the original swim mod (at the time of theft, at least) and Frackin Universe because vanilla Starbound has files which both mods overwrite, and the game does not crash because of it.

There are a few pieces of evidence to consider.

1. The version of Frackin Universe with the first iteration of the stolen code can be viewed here (Wayback Machine link). Take note that, because we are viewing a previous version of Frackin Universe, the branch tag is "7267e8a".
2. The metadata for the version of Frackin Universe with the first iteration of the stolen code can be viewed here (Wayback Machine link pending). Because the branch tag shows "7267e8a", it is a version of Frackin Universe from the same point in time as the first stolen code iteration.
3. This metadata does not have 'FreeSwim' (the internal mod name of Improved Swim Physics) under its 'includes'. Ergo, Starbound does not specifically wait for Improved Swim Physics to load before Frackin Universe.
4. At an unknown point in time after Silver called Sayter out, the Improved Swim Physics mod was added to Frackin Universe Discord server's log-checker bot's list of incompatible mods, despite the mod not being incompatible (one would simply overwrite the other).
5. In response to this, Silver, having uploaded the mod on Steam Workshop and continuing to develop it (leaving the Chucklefish Forums version alone in order to serve as evidence), appended 'SayterIsALiar' to the mod's internal mod name (so the Frackin Universe server's log incompatibility checker would state that Sayter is lying when indicating the "incompatible" mod).
6. Sayter, noticing this, put both 'FreeSwim' and 'FreeSwim_SayterIsALiar' under Frackin Universe's metadata's 'includes' list, meaning that Frackin Universe would attempt to load after the mod. It should be worth noting that when Sayter stole the mod to begin with, he must have noticed that it had built-in integration for Frackin Universe's files. The mod patches Frackin Universe liquids in order to make them use the new swimming mechanics. In order to do this, the mod has Frackin Universe in its 'includes' list and would thus attempt to load after it (in order for the patches to be applied). Sayter must have known this because he stole files from the folder with the Frackin Universe patch files.
7. Since both mods try to load after eachother, the game crashes. Combine this with Sayter falsely putting Betabound (another mod by Silver) on the incompatibility list and contemplating whether to 'block all her mods' later, it is not a good look for him.
8. Afterwards, Silver would simply remove the mod's internal name altogether, avoiding the game crash at the cost of making it impossible for mods to wait for Improved Swim Physics to load (and thus make mods unable to patch it).

Note that Betabound does not, in fact, overwrite the FU interfaces nor the mod which changes the "New Recipe" tag. The user opened a Betabound interface (which the "New Recipe" texture pack does not affect, as the texture pack was created years before Betabound) and assumed it was an incompatibility. Sayter then put Betabound on the incompatibility list, despite said list stating that incompatibilities should be proven first, which Sayter had no interest in attempting to prove or investigate. Note how Sayter even responds with "i also dont care" when Rylasasin expresses a desire to test whether the incompatibility exists.

Sayter, on his old account (which was deleted for doxxing and/or death threats, towards someone who DMCA'd Frackin Universe, instead of handling the consequences of his own actions like an adult), acknowleding the mod he stole and providing a reason to steal it: he doesn't want to inflate the server's mod count.




The infamous developer chat leaks for which Sayter has shown no remorse, from two perspectives. The date discrepancy is due to the users who independently screenshotted these quotes being in different timezones. Note that, outside of these screenshots, Sayter claims Silver is a minor. Talk about creepy!

I wouldn't recommend interacting with Sayter at this point. The last FU dev I had a discussion with on Reddit blocked me after I listed my various issues with FU and asking if the biggest issues (such as the stolen content) were fixed since I hadn't used FU in years and didn't want to reinstall it if said issues still existed.
"I can steal whatever content I want, but I'm gonna make it a problem when someone else does it to me or calls out when I did it". Hypocrisy at its finest.

Ok look I know I really shouldn't be prolonging the whole discourse that's been happening here for the past 24 hours or so, but I feel like I should at least put out how I feel about seeing more info about Sayter and FU.

Sayter, what the hell is wrong with you? I already knew about the mod thievery ages ago, but hearing that you've been deliberately spreading misinformation about people you don't like and attempting to silence those who call you out on your actions is absolutely irritating, not to mention you and several others have been saying vile things about them too. In my honest opinion, I find that you are not only a coward, a thief and a hypocrite, but you also lack the will to take responsibility for your misdeeds in general.


People who compare sayter to artmoor are quite generous - the skyrim patch at least makes the game less broken, and doesn't have heaps of degen crap shoved in in a mod that tries to be THE mod for all the players to have as a mandatory requirement for pleasant gaming experience.

Speaking of Sayter not having any positive contributions in this community, I'm surprised Sayter hasn't tried spreading disinformation about Starbound Patch Project, especially considering OpenStarbound is basically just Starbound Engine & API Patch Project and he's spread disinformation about that. But who knows, maybe he has, it's not like anyone has a complete comprehensive list of harmful things he's done to Starbound (not even the aforementioned Reddit one has everything!)

In the interest of being at least somewhat respectful, Frackin' Universe is just a modpack. That's how it started, and there's no real way to remove it from that basic premise without being incredibly disrespectful to the creators of each mod that was used for it. People should be allowed to take said modpack apart and use only the mods they like from it. I see this mod as merely an extension of that.

@Skulgan Sayter disagrees, given the intentional crashes towards Improved Swim Physics after stealing it, and his statements on Race Traits ("Race Traits mod? lol. why woudl[sic] you even? Frackin Races shit is literally built into FU now", said in public, then "im outright talking shit about Silver, that stupid bitch that tried to get us DMCA'd for doing exactly what shes doing here in this mod. lol." (which is funny because I did no such thing, and the person he accused me of bribing with my body in order to file the DMCA offered proof that it couldn't have been him to file the DMCA, an offer which Sayter declined ). This makes it clear that the thought of people not using FU doesn't even cross his mind.


I find it funny how, after publicly stating that about Race Traits, Sayter, in the FU dev chat, did an '@here' ping to claim I was copying him. The icing on the cake is that he later acknowledged the "Race Traits is separate in both code and execution" statement on the page and the fact that Omeruin was the lead of the mod (I helped Omeruin make the race traits mod she wanted to make, not the other way around, meaning that I couldn't have been copying him if he agrees that it was Omeruin's mod and separate in code and execution. Then he did another 180 and said "I just dislike Silver. i just find it comical that she talks so much shit about us "copying her" and then she literally copies us. doesnt bother me though."


It's becoming very obvious that Sayter just wants power and control. In his mind, he can do whatever he wants without consequences. When he's called out? He blocks people, spreads lies and just becomes ignores any and all actual criticism.
All those screenshots? Yeah, I'm not surprised. There's no humanity left within Sayter. He sold what little soul he had in exchange for the biggest Starbound modpack to exist under his name.

Some people are afraid to talk about FU controversies because of Sayter linking every post he dislikes to his discord server, resulting people run and downvote/report the post, not stopping them from insulting and harassment. Expect this post to be downvoted to hell.

You will never run away from crap and damage you've done to the Starbound modding community while creating your beloved mod. Just saying "I'm sorry" or "It's all old drama!" or "I had life problems/It was hard to concentrate" won't magically justify you, erase your mistakes and make people forget it. Just because you have an insane amount of supporters doesn't mean that there are no people who are aware of your past deeds.

There are modders and players who still remember what was done with frustration and disappointment that accountability was never taken and mistakes were not fixed. But that doesn't mean they magically stopped existing.

I'm sorry that the community never was talking about it when it just happened, when it was most needed. If I was there earlier, I'd make this post earlier. But here it is.

Don't know if there's a way they could program their mods specifically not to work with xClient, but it might be a good idea to back up any workshop mods you have that require the xSB compatibility patch in case they try something like that. I think you should probably do that for all your workshop mods as well since they can one day vanish and fuck up your universe.

Played a mod called "Galaxy in Conflict" about a year ago and it was pretty fun, though also fun is reading about stupid drama surrounding the mod. It's a bit hard to tell, but what is alleged by the accusers in these threads I think is that the creator, Tengu, is in fact a guy called Med who worked on a mod called United Systems Expansion which had an edgy line about Fascism and that Tengu/Med removes people from the dev team for no reason (?).

The current "dev" is not a "cool dude"

He is the same Medicfast90 (with a new name) that put the swastikas and fascist ♥♥♥♥ in the original US.E which is the precursor to GiC.

And it is because of this idiocy that I, as the writer, was spat upon for completely unrelated ♥♥♥♥ when people performed mental gymnastics to try and accuse anything of being bigoted, fascist, or whatever.

The people he removed were contributors like me. He lied to you. Still lies to you. And he lied to himself:

He told himself that these people were "parasites" leeching off his narcissistic greatness.

He sits on content that he did not create and enjoys the ego-stroking of getting to say that he is a "solo dev"

He holds that same content hostage because it was made for this project and if I or any past contributors give him any trouble, he threatens to remove it. He has already tried to remove a lot of it. He has failed. It is still there.

Echo, the creator of the EWS engine, sat by and did nothing, probably doing as little as possible to remain as unaffected as possible. He was always in a position to leverage the necessity of the EWS engine over GiC by threatening to withdraw it.

He did not.

Because what Med/Tengu has done is the same thing he has always done. That's why the project is so big.

Hopefully someone can read this before he deletes it. He is prone to information control and will gladly smokescreen that fact with more lies. Just like how he tried to mute me in the main GiC Discord before he could find a way to make me disappear quietly. Which he failed to do.

This isn't a cry for help or desperation. This isn't a complaint; It's just what happened.
I'm not inclined to waste too much time complaining.

Instead I have begun working on something that will have an effect. And hopefully, you will all see the fruits of that labor in months to come.


Look, as someone who spent years of my life working on this project, I still want you to try and enjoy it. And if my machinations pull through in a few months, I'll have rectified the situation regardless.

GiC was made by more people than just him.

But he clearly wants people to forget about US.E and to think that GiC was all his work.

There's way too much actual lore to talk about.
It's still there; Still in the game/mod. A lot of it is still my writing:
It's in the item descriptions, food descriptions, trinket descriptions...
Codex lore. Mission quest text. Radio messages. NPC dialogue.

The Chinese translation team (that he attacked in paranoia) confirmed that a lot of my work still remains despite how he tried to gouge, gut, and remove chunks of it.

When Med attacked them, he created a self-fulfilling prophecy that drove them into my arms.
He attacked them because he didn't think they were "real" and when he pushed his Patreon on them to try and make them "pay up" he got nothing and kicked them out of the GiC Discord in return.

The artist largely responsible for the entirety of Crusade worlds has looked at the mod files and says a lot of credit for his work is missing. I haven't checked myself but you should see his name in the scan-description of every piece of Glitch artwork that can be stolen and sold. If it's missing then things have only gotten worse.

Never mind that Med also arbitrarily removed a completely different artist who was responsible for all the high-resolution images of guns on most tool-tips when you mouse-over your gun.

Look, there's a lot more dirt to dig up. I wouldn't know where to begin because I wasted 2 months of my life considering the narcissistic accusations that Med threw against me, back when I still saw him as a friend.

But after I saw what he started doing to others, I realized it was all ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ and began my "project" which is not what you think it is, and it's not worth talking about until it is done. What I have been working on will be very obvious when it is revealed. There's not a lot of "creativity" involved in it.


The best thing you can do right now is right-click this page and copy the URL and throw it into the Starbound main Discord so that people can feast on the carrion like the animals that they are.

Hatred is a hobby and when you play a broken game for broken children, it's the only hobby animals like that can afford.

Nonetheless, it will cause him some pain and exacerbate the weight of his lies. But I don't expect that alone to snap his back. That's why I continue to work on something more important.

Hurting him is something I have done in the past. I did so to instruct him when I believed he was wrong. To an extent, that much has never changed.

But I don't believe I hold any moral high-ground in doing so. I do it because I can. And he does what he does because he can. There is no greater thoughtfulness to this. Only escalation.

can someone summarize what's this drama about i feel like i'm missing a lot of stuff

More than 5 years ago, a kid made a shitty mod that had "bad symbols" in it.

And if you scanned those symbols, it made your character say things that countless other children were programmed to disagree with. It was political. I didn't (and still don't) care.



Now, almost a decade later, that same kid is trying to make money in a very scumbag way.

He has only now removed that old mod in response to THIS DISCUSSION. And you can no longer access it on the Workshop.



He wasn't a thoughtful person, so he just worked and worked and worked.

He made a lot of shit.

So much shit that it seemed like the mod was big.

Some of it was shit that he didn't make. It was given to him by others.

He took it anyway and said it was his; He threw it on the pile.



I, a big mean bald man, found him years later.

I offered to do some thinking for him because he didn't like thinking.

He didn't like talking either.

But I found something to talk to him about. Something I thought we shared.

But it was something I had learned from, and that he had not.

And I, like others before and after me, fed him pity.

This was a mistake.



For years, we worked on a reboot of his original project.

I took the pieces available (salvaged from his old work, new work, and work given to us).

I tried to create a narrative expansion on the base game that acknowledged what it was while improvising explanations and additions that had some plausibility.

I outlined progression, details, and a broader thematic experience... That he manifested.

Along with others.



Because of mistakes I made by talking to the wrong people, who were also terrible, we had some needless conflict on public launch of the reboot, GiC, but ultimately felt success over time. I worked to cultivate and manage a community, publicize the project, and tweak/refine/edit a lot of the writing in the playable content.



Eventually, familiarity bred contempt. And the kid that was doing a lot of work had always decided that, in his mind, everything belonged to him. He always tried to get rid of non-essential people on his team so that he could gaslight himself into taking more credit. He thought he deserved all of it, because he tried to make sure he did more than others. Because he does not think. Only work.



One day he asked, "Why do I have to do anything you say?"

To which I responded, "You don't?"

But he did not see what I saw. He did not think about how far we got by working together.

He only saw how much everything should belong to him.

And he resented how, when looking upon his works, he saw me. And not him.



So, he cooked up a story to feed himself and new idiots that would feed him pity again, and ultimately replace me. Like Pinko. Who I fear believes that he is honestly helping the boy.

As I did.



He fed that story to me too.

And I chewed on it at first.

I wasted months reflecting on his accusations.

He said I manipulated him.

But that wasn't really the right word.



Because it was clear from the beginning that he needed others' ideas.

He does not create original things; He only finds ways to transpose them into this terrible game.

To make it less terrible, presumably.

And I validated that.

I saw the value in what he could do.

And I tried to point it toward good things.

And I tried to point him away from the terrible person he was becoming.

But I am not a patient man.



And he resented that friction among other petty trespasses that he sucked up his ass and hardened over time.



Now, in the bleak economic hellscape of reality, he has decided to betray and remove more people that worked with him, so that he can use the project to beg for money on Patreon. And if things get worse, he will hold the project at gunpoint and threaten to remove it if he decides he just isn't making enough money. On something that he alone did not build. No matter how much he pipes some Cato Sicarius bullshit and farts about being the sole developer.



Patman was right all along: The boy shits loudly.

And I will clean up his mess as I always did-

-though I no longer see him as my own repugnant child or sibling.



When something is put online, it is automatically copyrighted.

This stops anyone from putting it somewhere else-

-because it already "exists" wherever it was first.

What it does not do is specify who that copyright belongs to.

To do that, you would need to register the copyright.

Which I have done.



There is no magic to the process. It takes time. I will have the documentation I need in either 1 month from now, or by September of this year at the latest.



He can build all he wants until then. But I will take it from him, in the end.

He will be made to understand what he has done to me, others before me, and others after me.



He will have to learn from pain, and experience.

Because words, either spoken or written, were never enough.

Dude it wasn't even Med or Mawd's story, it was everyone's, everyone that had a hand on GiC had their own share of lore, characters and content, it is true most of us were extremely slow, but we have been already working on this thing 4 years for free, i am still working even if this tiny fella wants the whole food for himself, you can even still support all of his work if you want to, hell i could drop some of my spare change to him. We were never here for any money and i even told this dumbass patreon support entirely for him and Echo which rejected weeks before he banned me as well.


I have a busy life, i'm an artist trying to live entirely of game development rather than trying to feed myself of breadcrumbs in a Patreon and doing overpriced Item commissions.
GiC has been always a sort of a passion project i kept working up until today without really sharing my sprite assets until i had a decent bunch, i was just truly lazy and not really inspired to organise and update all of my part, i was self aware the team wasn't happy with me slacking so i could had expected to either be kept as a close associate to witness development if i wasn't going to cooperate, i could had discussed the terms of me being removed from active development and keeping all of my assets for them, but he preferred to outright ban me of a server i had a lot of friends in, using an external friend to threaten me to not say a thing or he will nuke me, and then he proceeded to threaten my girlfriend as well which got framed of conspiracy by another one of Med's too... Eh... "Associates."




I am a person weak to emotional bonds, i tend to see relationships different than they really are, so despite the conflictive nature of our relationship i had the impression we were still lads as one day in July 15 he tried to inspire me into keep doing pixel art as he was now into pixel art as well, this would make me entirely see him as a close friend to me up until he banned me 2 months after, using a friend in common to delivery such a constrastful message in comparison.

Hello folks, I'd like to step in here for a moment & say a little piece regarding this thread here.

Most of you don't know me (but some of you here indeed do & you know who you are), but I've been around for a while now. I've recently become the latest member of the GiC development team & more importantly am a very close friend of Tengu. The biggest thing to note however is my role in this "story" that's unfolding here. Not only did I witness this entire drama from day one, but I was directly involved in the things that happened. And the big thing that must be said is that Nitro, Grace, and especially Mawd are either grossly exaggerating what had happened or just flat out lying.

Grace had not provided any sprites for years and now only constitutes a small part of the project as we have been actively removing those assets & replacing them. The whole "working for free" thing is a huge joke too since she was far from the only contributor to GiC and many people had contributed WAY MORE than Grace over the years. This isn't even mentioning the fact that Tengu does literally 95% of all the work on GiC since, after all, it's his mod project. Grace didn't have many friends in the server either so that's another huge exaggeration. Most people were just simply neutral with her or just flat out didn't like her. One of the biggest reasons for her removal from the team was not only her laziness & lack of care for the project, but also her tendency to throw literal temper tantrums if she didn't get her way. Her presence in the team was simply toxic & put people on edge, so she was let go as a result.

Nitro had only provided about five assets total into GiC and they are also in the process of being removed. His relationship with Tengu is another can of worms though. I won't be digging into that here as its not my story to tell. But what I can say is that he is extremely exaggerating their relationship & making it seem like it was something much more than it actually was.

Now that leaves Mawd. He's where it all began. To put it briefly, Mawd used & manipulated Tengu into building him his "dream starbound mod" and started an abusive "father-son"-esque relationship. He came in about a year after GiC first started development & then attached himself to the project. His influence was great & it resulted in GiC for many years being a very confused mess of a mod, being injected with all the random ideas & things Mawd wanted. His reputation also grew so much that he even managed to convince a huge portion of the GiC discord server that he was the creator of GiC. The only thing Mawd did for GiC was "write" the lore & "play test". In terms of writing, all he really did was take the things Tengu wrote and "edited" them to make them "better". He almost never wrote any of his own stuff & when he did it was terrible. His "writing" was also completely scrubbed from the mod in a mere THREE DAYS after his removal from the project. In terms of play testing, he didn't really do that either. He instead used equipment from other mods like FU to try & cheese through GiC's levels & planets. He hardly ever used actual GiC equipment & items during his "testing", which resulted in a ton of borked balancing. Besides the damage he did the mod, he had also caused a lot of damage to Tengu mentally & emotionally. I also won't get too deep into this as its also not my place to yap about the things that happened between them as its not my story to tell.

Drama is something that neither me, Tengu, or Echo want. Which is why we have tried to keep out of the thread here & just let whatever happens happen. We just want to move on. There's been many contributors to GiC over the years. Chezz, Echo (who is still in the dev team btw), Capt-Slowpoke/MerchantofBenis, Kivich, Beltsasar, Raymond, Gnio/Gniolliv, me I guess, and most recently a fella named BoredKappa, are all people who have contributed to this project. And with the exception of Beltsasar, none of these fellas are on any bad terms with us & they have also made great contributions to GiC. For starters I'd like to congratulate you for being the first person to fall for my bit. I am in fact, not a communist despite the name. My name is a joke that plays into the fact that I have a love for Soviet military equipment (cold war era in particular), think the old communist derogatory term of "Pinko" is very funny, and most important of all, the name is bait for people like you who like tossing insults whenever they get angry. So again, congrats.

Second, your work really was removed in a mere three days, we have the logs to prove it. And not only that but your grossly exaggerating what you did in terms of outlining the planets & story. Most planets came from ideas Tengu had in the US:E days, not you. Sure, you did do things like say "Razed should be like a Vietnam planet". But the thing is, Tengu had plenty of his own ideas & lore (even written lore), and Razed never became a "Vietnam" planet in the end. What it became instead was a planet inspired by Sekiro Shadows Die Twice, which was always what Tengu intended from the start and has literally nothing to do with your own "ideas" or "plans". It should also be noted that anyone can come up with something like "Vietnam the planet" or "Snowy prison planet". Your not special Mawd. That's not an original idea that only came from your brain. You even once said that ideas are cheap. But here you are acting like a massive hypocrite trying to inflate the importance of your own ideas & concepts.

Third of all, we're not that dense. We know your either watching the server with an alt or getting info from other people. We've always known, and we don't care. There's nothing we can do to stop you from doing it, so there's no reason to be up & arms over it. Your not some clever mastermind that's one step ahead of the game doing CIA spy ops. The fact that your even admitting to stalking our server here in any capacity in front of everyone just further shows how psychotic you are.

Fourth, the other Stabound folks like Neb were kicked, not banned. Hence why some came back. Honestly you should already know this, but I'll say it here anyways. We're not interested in being apart of the greater Starbound community. So we both decided to just remove some of those last remaining lurking Starbound "influencers" (which even included a youtuber but that happened a while ago & he was banned rather than kicked), thinking that they wouldn't even care or notice. This is far from a secret as we are very open about this & our intentions in the server.

Now I think this is a good segway into my last point I wanna make here. I use terms here like "we're" & "we" with great intent. Me & Tengu are on very equal footing. The only reason why I'm still "under" him is because GiC belongs to him & not me, so I respect his authority in that regard as its what anyone should do. But to make me out like some little puppet to him is a gross underestimation of my role & involvement here. I'm no puppet (neither is echo) & never was. And I wanna make something very loud & clear here.

I am directly responsible for your removal from the project.
I was the one who sat down with Tengu on that faithful night, and exposed you for being the abusive narcissist you are.
I told him that he needed to get rid of you.
And I helped plan everything out.
The same goes for the other two people here.
If I hadn't joined the server, you would still be there with your little submissive sweatshop modder. I want you to drill this into your skull & never forget it.

It was because of me, Tengu finally gathered the courage & strength to get rid of you, and all these other people who were sucking his soul out from him. Your a 30 or 30+ year old man Mawd. And yet your childishly trying to attack & hurt a 21 year old. Hell, in this very thread you have even talked crap to & insulted both Echo & BaconBird like some angry highschool bully. Tengu saw you as not only his best friend, but also his damn father figure. He was a troubled, lonely, and traumatized kid with emotional damage & you took full advantage of that because that's what people like you do. You prey on those who are at their lowest & feed. And I know this from my own personal experience because unfortunately I had to grow up with narcissistic father figures too.

You need to move on & stop all this nonsense. Do your own thing & leave Tengu, and this project alone. The fact that its been over half a year & your still here is just ridiculous & insane.

This is a very sensitive situation with a LOT of emotional baggage that SHOULD have remained mostly private but someone (unsurprisingly) made sure that it wasn't (typical narcissistic behavior). We're not interested in drama. All we want is for everyone to move on with their lives. Of course none of us can stop you from doing whatever you want with all this info, but I'll say it anyways.

Played a mod called "Galaxy in Conflict" about a year ago and it was pretty fun, though also fun is reading about stupid drama surrounding the mod. It's a bit hard to tell, but what is alleged by the accusers in these threads I think is that the creator, Tengu, is in fact a guy called Med who worked on a mod called United Systems Expansion which had an edgy line about Fascism and that Tengu/Med removes people from the dev team for no reason (?).

Can't really say I'm that shocked that Starbound has this sort of community, I remember this one sperg who made an overly grimderp United Systems themed mod that retcons the Protectorate to be cartoonishly evil bad guys who want to control the galaxy.

I recall him getting into constant slapfights with redditors too.

Didn't know that most of the people orbiting him were just as spergy though.

I couldn't see anything new in the trailer. I'd be interested in seeing what they could add if they do return. Looked back a bit, they have done posts advertising Starbound when it's on discount, but not a video before like the one posted (at least recently anyway). If they did return, do you think they could make anything better than what modders have done? Considering that most SB modders nowadays just make meme mods, I don't think they've got a high bar to jump.

Reminder if you've got Starbound and mods for it installed through Steam to back both up locally.

For the base game, just copy and paste the Starbound folder somewhere on your desktop. Workshop mods are stored in "\steamapps\workshop\content\211820" although they're all in separate folders and are named after their workshop ID. You can just back up the entire folder, though if you'd like to have each mod running locally, you can copy and paste them all into your mods directory and if you'd have them all labelled, copy and paste the ID into the end of this link:

Think you should post those screenshots for posterity. Didn't know OpenStarbound was that fucked up.

OpenStarbound is dogshit, is the most buggy and messy piece of software I've even tried to run in my entire life and is programmed like shit, the majority of the players I've seen installing it end up uninstalling it within half an hour due to the sheer amount of bugs and memory leaks found in that thing.

I can't believe there are people who unironically recommend it; there isn't even a single child predator out there who knows how to code properly.
