I hope eventually you can sort of bookmark planets or have a sort of history of all of your planets you jumped to, not necessarily in a way that you can always Teleport to them, but at least in a way that you can make your way back to them when you'd like to, I remember spending hours trying to find a planet I was on that had an avian tomb because I needed a golden ducky for a quest and I ended up stealing one from a grounded's house in a village because I just came across that first. I felt kind of bad in that context that you feel bad as a character in a game since I was playing an Avian and so the Grounded are sort of like your bros if you're an avian.

EDIT: I just realized that a lot of quests that aren't the major scenarios are essentially asking you to steal items for people at the outpost because they want a thing and there's not really another way to get it in the game.
In terms of that, at least you would mostly steal from people that are already dead (prison guards) or from places that would want you dead (Avian temples/tombs filled with Avians that want you dead).

This mod is worth mentioning, I dont know if it still works but if it does essentially you can build your ship out of regular blocks and it makes the engines and the chair placeable blocks and whatnot. The best part is EVERYONE ELSE CAN SEE YOUR SHIP AND THEY DONT NEED A MOD TO DO IT
Upbeat Giraffe allows your ships to be expanded and since this mod can be used for it, it still works perhaps. One can may as well make their dreadnought ship even larger.

Chucklefish is adding planetside teleporters and planet bookmarks either in the next update or an upcoming one.

If they ever do that, that's gonna make things much easier for players that forgot to put down the coordinates and planet names for places that hold their base.

Bumping this thread due to something new: updates. Few days back, I revisited Starbound and the devs put in a few things I can name without looking up the update list. One was a new area to warp to from the Outpost biome (the teleporter that takes you to the outpost). Said new area is tied to the main quest since 1, it involves all the races released and 2, it has something to do with the tentacle monster responsible for removing much of humanity from Earth. Another thing to note is that when you save and quit from say underground near the core of the planet, the game will let you pick up from that area after you reload the save. No more ending up back on your ship. The outpost apprently have a new merchant that sells teleporters which at the lowest price are all at 1000 pixels save from a core which may be at the maximum number of pixels one can obtain.

They managed to do it. It may as well help if you wanted off some planet which you are very deep under and you can't backtrace you steps if you were in a hurry.

My gaming community has a sever and someone streaming on it. If you guys wanna play you can be massive :ween: and join.

Starbound Server Information:

I.P: 50.97.95.140:23525
Password: h*ppy

If they ask who you are say Vulpine said it was cool. I'll be playing as Robro.

I played it a little bit in beta and still reinstall to play through it sometimes, usually modded. The vanilla game gets boring fast (and a lot of people were apparently disappointed by the final release). I used to use Frackin' Universe, but the research system that was added is AIDs so I stopped.

What was your favourite race? I like the Avians, but I also like the Florans. Novakids seem to be the fan-favourite.

I heard that one of the reasons the devs stopped updating Starbound is because it's full of spaghetti code (since one of the lead devs left mid-way through development). There was also a source-code leak that was really underwhelming.

Was randomly checking out Starbound after years, it seems there's a project made about a year ago that attempts to fix a lot of the bugs and performance issues Starbound had called OpenStarbound. While there's still issues with Starbound that goes beyond bugs and optimization, this is still pretty neat.
Also Dear Sneeder was planning on making a Starbound server at one point? That's an interesting bit of site lore I never knew.

Yeah, no.

There's another fork I found, xStarbound. Lotta bitching and whining about the dev's "transphobia" and "plagiarism" on Reddit though (archive link).
Might switch to xStarbound then, assuming mod compatibility isn't terrible (given people tend to lie about how things work in order to go slander based devs like what happened with PolyMC, it's probably fine). Might even be better since it isn't marred by trannies who are notorious for taking 10 years to do anything because that means leaving their hugbox.

In June 2023, a mod was released for Starbound called "The Ruin's Legacy" by a user called Portal Mech, a continuation of a previous mod called "Return to Earth". It was over 200mb - because it was bloated with anti-cheat. Once it was noticed, he updated it with with a new anti-cheat that broke all of the monster scripts and would crash on missions. In the files, he left this antagonizing message:
"Congratulations. You've found the folder containing my anti admin system. If you're here to admire my handiwork, then go ahead and admire. But if you're here to try and disable it, then you might as well give up. I have planned for every form of attack, and my system and will continue to fulfill its purpose no matter how long and hard you work to turn it off. If you're still bent on proving me wrong, then go right ahead. You'll soon see how hopeless it is."
"It is true that my system has been bypassed before, but that will not stop me. I will continue to evolve it until it is virtually unbeatable. The question is: who will give up first?"

He immediately gave up and moved to modding Terraria.

Reminds me of that one Sonic fangame that also went overboard with anti-cheat. What is it with modders and anti-cheat autism?

I remember this little shit. He would go to "war" with anyone who touched anything relating to his files, especially anyone who tried to unfuck his mod because of the problems his "anti-cheat" would cause.

The reason I put war in quotation marks is because even after going on about how no matter how many times he has to update his anti-cheat when the Bypass itself updates:

And if you're going to pick a fight with someone, you should know better than to pick a fight with seemingly one of the most most beloved Starbound modders on the workshop. Any goodwill he had died during this and he just became Sayter (maybe, I don't know much about Sayter other than he says things trannies hate so that makes him hated) to what's left of the community.
He immediately gave up and moved to modding Terraria.
He's still working on it. It looks like shit (anything that doesn't is ripped from other games lol) and I have a feeling it also has some anti-cheat in it.

Sonic Gather Battle. TL;DR. Since we mentioned Terraria, some mods also had scripts that prevent insta-kills (usually by detecting if they took an insane amount of damage at once, so even OP builds were off the table), had percent damage to prevent invincibility, insta-killing you, and all sorts of nonsense. I think the Mutant boss from Fargo's Mutant Mod is like that.

(maybe, I don't know much about Sayter other than he says things trannies hate so that makes him hated)
He incorporated mods into Frackin' Universe without permission from the original authors, though he later apologised for it and promised not to do it again. He's said to have a very snotty attitude and really likes to control how the mod is played, there was once entire guide dedicated to figuring out what a quest's actual internal ID was since he put in tons of red-herrings filled with taunting messages for people trying to use admin commands to skip the quests. Lastly, he's a furry gooner. Here's a few Steam discussion threads about him and Frackin' Universe if you're interested.
There was one in particular I was looking for with a screenshot from his Discord server of him calling Republicans evil or something like that, but I couldn't find it.

For xStarbound users, Betabound does not work properly with it and makes you unable to take damage. Other mods by the same creator are also incompatible. Creator claims it's not intended while whining about the xSB dev's transphobia.

EDIT: I found the problem. There was a line in Betabound's stats/sb_player_primary.lua that when removed would solve the damage problem.
--reentry
if not starExtensions then
animator.setAnimationState("sb_flames", not player.isLounging() and not mcontroller.zeroG() and mcontroller.yVelocity() <= -170 and "flames" or "none")
end

Thanks. Just went and DMed the xSB dev about this. He just put Betabound on the incompatible list.

Edit: Got DMed back. He told me the problem is actually with the "math" lines in the code. xSB doesn't support that stuff because he says it can cause crashes. The dev is open to making a patch to fix it.

Edit 2: xSB dev told me several other modders use the same unsupported trick and xStarbound has safer, not-crashy ways of doing what Silver's doing. He also said Chucklefish never actually supported the trick and it's an unintentional exploit the OpenStarbound devs refuse to fix.

There was some gravedancing on OpenStarbound Discord. Looks like one of them was trying to calm it down.

Also, profile of another OpenStarbound peep. This one's regularly active on the server, but stayed out of the cheering in #serious.
