I like @Exceptionally Exceptional 's idea, but I would change a couple of things:

1. The supernova does happen, but it's not a retarded super supernova that destroys the whole Romulan empire. What happens is that they think it's gonna happen in less than a year, so they need to evacuate everybody to one of their other planets and they need Federation help because it's an ASAP situation. Spock does try to save them and dies giving them now a couple of decades for them to figure out what to do and, thanks to Spock's whatever technology, figure out if they can stop the explosion.

2. I want my idea of Reg being a reluctant new teacher for the new branch of Starfleet Academy related to this.

But that would mean First Lady Keiko.

I already had First Lady Keiko.

Oh yeah and remember how a major plotline of Season 2 was AI is trying to end all life? Turns out Discovery is an AI now but a GOOD AI well thank fuck we spent a whole season going 930 years into the future to stop that lols

Yeah but he was at least entertaining to read about when he shit on Gene Roddenberry. And he produced better writing than anyone who produces current Trek has ever made.

Ol' Uncle Harlan was a galaxy class asshole but stories such as Jefty Is Five and I Have No Mouth are legit classics combining great writing, startling imagination and a real emotional punch.

Apart from being rampantly heterosexual (the guy was married 5 times) the only thing he loved more than writing was fighting, either with words, lawyers or fists.

Ellison attended Ohio State University for 18 months (1951–53) before being expelled. He said the expulsion was for hitting a professor who had denigrated his writing ability, and over the next 20 or so years he sent that professor a copy of every story that he published.

They really don't make writers like him anymore.

So turns out the reason Tilly left Discovery wasn't because of the weight limit of the ship, but because, no joke, she's getting her own spinoff show: Starfleet Academy. The 23rd NuTrek spinoff or whatever in production hell. Also, they're insisting Section 31 is still happening.

finished DS9 for the first time. thought id share my thoughts on it if anybody even cares.

overall pretty good show. some not so good moments, but overall i liked it.

how i feel about some of the characters:
  • quark and garak are both legendary characters, some of my favorites in any series.
  • sisko: i was skeptical but by the end i wound up liking him as captain.
  • o'brien: what's not to like?
  • odo : ultimately i did like him, have mixed feelings on his ending though.
  • worf: even though im not the biggest kligon fan, i do like him in this.
  • jadzia : honestly didnt like this character. was glad when they killed her off.
  • nog: started out rough but eventually improved a lot.
  • rom: i prefer him as an engineer, but it was clunky how he went from drooling retard to literally genius engineer in the span of a single episode with no explanation.
  • kira: decent character. not much to dislike but nothing really stands out either.
  • bashir: pompous twat. gets even worse once his genetic engineering is revealed.
  • erzi: not bad. much better than jadzia.
  • moogie: one of the worse character in any series. whomever wrote this character should feel ashamed.
  • zek : not bad but can be a bit much at times.
  • morn: who doesnt love morn? i honestly felt pretty sad when they had his funeral.
  • weyoun : pretty good villain character. i thought the vorta were interesting.
  • winn: also pretty good, but i would have liked a bigger and better redemption to the end of her story.
  • dukat: another good villain. i like he truly did want to bury the hatchet with kira and did regret the occupation.
general thoughts:
  • the dominion war stuff is really good but i feel that they didnt dedicate enough episodes to it. like in season 6 and 7 it is a war killing millions and the federation is struggling yet it seems most episodes dont even mention it.
  • the conclusion to the war was a bit unsatisfying and felt a bit rushed. they could have spent a few more episodes on the last few battles of the war or something.
  • they mention curzon dax way way too much. especially in the first few seasons it seems they mention him at least 2-3 times per episode. i got very sick of hearing about him tbh.
  • they set up a few things only to never do anything with them. some examples:
    • they sent the defiant on a daring mission to blow up the dominions main supply of white in the alpha quadrant saying without this supply the jem'hadar would eventually turn on each other. but they never mention this event ever again. could have been interesting to see something come of it.
    • they also set up a rivalry between the alpha and gamma jem'hadar but never explored this. could have been interesting to see this explored as some schism in the dominion in the alpha quadrant.
  • I liked when odo became solid. I thought it was an interesting concept to explore. he could have really grown as a character as he struggled to adapt to being a solid, learned to appreciate the solids around him, and dealt with his longing to go back to being a changeling. but this only lasted liked two episodes before the retconned it, and it was such a stupid and unsatisfying way they did it too.
  • it was very unsatisfying how they dealt with all the dominion ships traveling through the wormhole. they pulled a literal deus ex machina and just had the prophets zap them to the extreme simply because sisko is black space jesus.
  • way too many mirror universe episodes. not that they are bad, but the mirror universe is best when it is a one off thing. too much use ruins the concept.
  • too many klingon centric episodes. i guess im the weird trek fan who doesnt find gay kligon ceremonies compelling, their language sounds stupid when spoken, and i just dont care about klingon honor.
  • not enough romulans. i like romulans way more than kligons and think there should have been more of a feature in the show.
  • even though it was kind of a stupid episode, i really cant dislike the baseball episode.
there is more, but this is all i feel like typing at the moment.

tl:dr who even cares?

bashir: pompous twat. gets even worse once his genetic engineering is revealed.
Eh I’d disagree. Bashir is like a high functioning autist especially in the early seasons. He doesn’t have social graces(at least not very well) and can’t read the room a lot of the time. But he does grow, demonstrate his competence and the genetic reveal adds a level of depth to the federation as a polity and his own outlook.

they mention curzon dax way way too much. especially in the first few seasons it seems they mention him at least 2-3 times per episode. i got very sick of hearing about him tbh.
Curzon was Dax’s previous host and Sisko’s mentor/drinking buddy. (And he only appears briefly in the pilot). I can understand why people would ask “wait why should I care about this guy?” but he is important, at least to understanding Dax and Sisko’s relationship with Dax.

the dominion war stuff is really good but i feel that they didnt dedicate enough episodes to it. like in season 6 and 7 it is a war killing millions and the federation is struggling yet it seems most episodes dont even mention it.
This is a bizarre take. The last half of season 7 is basically serialized television. It’s present throughout season 7 either in the background or the front of the story. It’s all dominion war or plots related to the dominion war. As for season six-Waltz, Far Beyond the Stars, a little ship, and many other episodes reference the war in some fashion. Though season six is generally more character focused tbh.

I liked when odo became solid.
It wasn’t one episode? I forget how many it was, but there was quite a gap between them.

way too many mirror universe episodes. not that they are bad, but the mirror universe is best when it is a one off thing. too much use ruins the concept.
I sort of agree and disagree here. The MU in DS9 evolved into its own separate plot. Admittedly by season 7 it got rather slapstick and kind of lame. But I liked the whole Terran freedom fighter thing. Change of the faction dynamics and all. Also the Intendant, no more words needed.

it was very unsatisfying how they dealt with all the dominion ships traveling through the wormhole. they pulled a literal deus ex machina and just had the prophets zap them to the extreme simply because sisko is black space jesus.
I mean…they needed a deus ex machina. Just so happened there were gods nearby. It’s repeatedly stated that the dominion fleet if allowed through will stomp the federation and it will be over.* Sisko has to plead with the prophets and outright remind them of their ties to Bajor, something they don’t take pleasure towards(him extracting action out of them).

*Important to note the whole dominion war is fought against a dominion expeditionary force and its allies. Not the gamma quadrant dominion which is implied(if not stated) to be much much bigger and to be overwhelmingly powerful. Fact is, they needed divine intervention. Just to prevent a total dominion victory.

not enough romulans. i like romulans way more than kligons and think there should have been more of a feature in the show.
I agree here actually.

rom: i prefer him as an engineer, but it was clunky how he went from drooling retard to literally genius engineer in the span of a single episode with no explanation.
I think it’s stated as early as season 3 that Rom is a technical genius, he just sucks at business. In the episode where quark and odo get stranded and have to climb a mountain, also where Nog asks to join starfleet. Rom leaves the same season, in Bar Association. Problem with Rom is they didn’t really have a set character for him until the late first season/early second season? He was a stereotypical ferengi in the first few episodes. The whole idiot savant thing came later.

Yes a star trek show with the fat person as the main lead. Finally fat asses will feel representative in Star Trek.

Aren't they like a thousand years in the future now? I remember she was around for the time skip at least. Is Starfleet even a thing that has an academy?

Tilly left STD to be an instructor at new future Starfleet Academy... They had an episode that was basically a pilot/preview for it, and it was the worst episode of STD ever.

I wanted Starfleet Academy, but not like this.

Not like this.

Fuck you, Kucksman or whatever's his name. Fuck you.

I don't watch STD and mostly I click on this thread in the hopes that someone is shitting on Tilly for being fat.

Somehow I missed that she isn't on the show anymore and your post finally explains to me why I have been disappointed lately.

O'Brien would never let the Cardies join the Federation. And you can't even really blame him for that.

I would actually make a similar show where O'Brien was elected president of the Federation (I'd vote for him. Don't tell me you wouldn't also.), and he initially stopped the Cardies from joining the Federation... At first at least. You still have to have a satisfying story, and maybe that story is O'Brien learning not to hate the Cardies anymore, despite his sordid past with them. I'd watch that.
How about one where O'Brian is imprisoned for a short time and writes his autobiography called "Mo Streachailt" where he calls the Cardies subhuman slime. He then rides a wave of populism and is elected president of the Federation, overseeing a new (albeit brief) golden age. He starts a war with and conquers the Cardassians, beginning the systematic annihilation of the race.

It all goes well until he makes the age old mistake of invading a former ally, the Klingon Empire.

Pour one out for O'Brian and Keiko in the space bunker.

Here's a challenge for the thread: Watch all Kurtzman Trek and find a straight White character that survived more than one episode and has more than five lines.
I haven't even watched anything outside of the pilot and the RLM reviews and I know Jason Isaacs' character beats that challenge. Should've specified a non-villain SWM.

So they essentially gave a spinoff to Wesley Crusher.

I hope Mary Wiseman ends up like Wil Wheaton: tolerated by the fans. Occasionally pitied because he's still trying to make a buck off of something he did as a kid.
