Part of it is that William Ware Theiss left TNG after the first season. He died of AIDS a couple years later. Dude was apparently gay, but he really knew how to make sexy outfits for the women on TOS and for Lt. Yar.
After that, the costumes seemed really banal. "Beiges and Browns, Beiges and Browns!" as Mike Stoklasa said.
You say that a fag was a costume designer for early TNG?

I don't find that difficult to believe...

Marc said he wanted Dukat to have an affair with Kira because he, the real person, had a crush on Nana. That doesn't seem kosher.

There seems to be tension between him and the writers. Ira wanted a straight Nazi allegory, but Marc wanted more nuance than that. I respect Ira as a writer and an inspiration; but it's similar to when fans fell in love with Spike. Joss hated how popular he was, and James bore the brunt of that.

Moral (I guess?): If you want two-dimensional characters, don't hire these actors.

So he was the Matt Damon of the 60s?
Might be!
And I think that screenshot from Earth II would make a great reaction image. It was an interesting film; not really good, but it had more than its share of intriguing ideas. The text is from the film, used during a debate before a plebiscite; in the story it is running commentary generated by a computer.
He has an interesting autobiography, as well. He starred in Roddenberry's The Lieutenant , and at one point Roddenberry asked his opinion on casting a role: he wanted a solid actor who looked a little odd, so he could play an alien with minimal makeup. Lockwood suggested Leonard Nimoy, who had guest-starred on The Lieutenant. I suspect Roddenberry had the same conversation with most of the actors he knew.

So, with my work shut down for a week due to a kid showing up and giving Corona to others, I decided to use that 7 day free trial and binge nu-Trek. Not many episodes, so it didn't take long. I really, really, really despise one thing that's emphasized over all others with these shows: Galactic Apocalypse. Every single season in Picard and STD is "everyone's gonna die!". It's just what flavor of universe-ending bullshit that differs. Only slight tweak to season 3 of STD is that an Apocalypse happened, caused by an incel Kelpian trapped in his mom's holo-basement. It's also painful when you realize that it's a blatant rip off of certain video game series.

Then you throw in space Jesusette and it just makes it all... nasty.

Like, sometimes I do think that people hyperventilate over "wokeshit" too much, but then I watch something like this and go, "Okay, they're pretty justified in their views."

Still can't stand Doomcock's reviews. I'll stick with Major Grin and SFDebris jabs at the shows.
As mentioned before, you see this a lot across a multitude of series. Gotta keep raising those stakes so we know how serious the next bad guys are! Of course, if you keep doing that, you end up making it impossible to scale things back. As one example, WoW's seventh expansion ended with the fucking planet getting stabbed with a gigantic sword...then the eighth expansion started with the dumb red vs. blue faction war reigniting for the umpteenth time, as if that wasn't major plot whiplash. "I mean, maybe there's more important shit to deal with like the end of the world and all, but dammit, I just really hate orcs!" - the Alliance, probably And that's without getting into the latest expansion going even more completely retarded with THE END OF THE AFTERLIFE, but I've long since stopped giving a damn about that game.

I can't remember if I saw it in this thread or elsewhere, but another big problem with nu-Trek is how long and drawn out the stories are, completely unnecessarily. Each season's plot could easily be condensed into a single episode of classic Trek, maybe a two-parter if you're stretching it, and you wouldn't miss a thing. It's so much pointless wheel-spinning just to get to the big dumb ending. In the same time as a single season of nu-Trek, I can go on almost a dozen adventures with wildly different settings, characters, conflicts, and concepts. Why would I ever choose the former?

Kirk and Picard aren't cut from the same cloth...
Proving that was pretty much the only good thing that came out of Generations.
Picard used to be my favorite of the two but that was before they utterly ruined the character in nu-Trek.

It always amazes me how active this thread is while also almost never mentioning anything going on in current Star Trek episodes.

I know why, but it’s still impressive.

Kudos to Sam for leaping into Archer's body and forming the Federation.

Sam leaps out just as Archer is about to give his address at the end of the series.

yeah I'm fine with the fucked up relationship between Kira and Dukat
spoonheads view conflict as a way of flirting, Dukat has a thing about wanting his enemies to approve of him before he kills them, Kira's just a stupid damn Bajoran
it works as it's done in the show, but would never go any further
Dukat wouldn't forcibly rape her because anybody can do that, there's no challenge, and Kira's such a goddamn Bajoran she literally turned on her own mother because MUH CULLABORATORS

I don't see the problem in this (heterosexuality was still legal in the 90's), tho he was probably just bullshiting to massage her ego like actors do to each other all the time and doesn't realize how that sounds in Current Year.

Tbh Nana Visitor was only moderately attractive and her character was an annoying nag. Leeta was a lot cuter and Terry Farrell was stunning.

Leeta is a massively underrated trek girl
