Based on the Billy Mitchell thread, let's talk about hot sauce.

What are you eating, why do you like it? Recommendations?

What sauce have you tried that's pure garbage in a bottle?

Do you like hot sauce with fruity undertones (you know you do), or a simple vinegar and cayenne because you're a basic bitch?

Discuss.

I had some of that "Hot Ones" sauce, I went straight for their two hottest ones. They were hot but nothing spectacularly hot. It does help prove that celebrities are subhumans though so thats a plus. Most hot sauce tastes like ass anyway.

I like basic bitch hot sauce because any fancy ones I've tried have tasted terrible. Carolina vinegar style BBQ sauce may be my gateway to hot sauces as I experimented with a bunch of recipes this past summer and really enjoyed one that was heavier on the apple cider vinegar and gave me a taste for something more than garlic+vinegar+mild-moderate heat. I'm willing to try a more complex hot sauce if there is one that's widely avaible someone can recommend. I prefer hot, but not too hot and Thai curries are probably my favorite flavor profiles when it comes to spicy.

Sriracha is shit and I have no idea how it became this hyped up sensation. The average person's tastebuds have to be worse than mine. There is an entire food subforum btw.

Black Rose has been my favorite lately. It's not SUPER spicy, but it's got a bit of kick and has a nice mix of flavors.

I am a big fan of Louisiana style hot sauces as well as Korean style garlic hot sauces and salsa verde.

Recently I have gotten really into Horseshoe Brand during a trip up to upstate NY, especially the XXXtra Hot Sauce (ghost pepper), which, while clearly named by a Rob Liefeld-reading Gen Xer, has an excellent flavor combo but must be used sparingly because it is so strong.

Tabasco pepper sauce on pizza and I like their sriracha which I use for sushi bowls and ramen.

Buffalo hot sauces are my current favorite but stuff that's Habanero-based is the all round best type with the most flavor. Tapatio the best 'available everywhere' sauce. I can't get down on Tobasco even though it's ubiquitous, there's something kinda clinical and bland about it's flavor.

Most of the people they have on, when they reach the last few wings, comment that they're not as bad as the previous ones. Which is fair. I've got a bottle of Da Bomb bought mostly as a joke, and it's fucking vile. The bottle of 'The Last Dab' went very quickly but Da Bomb will probably sit in the cupboard unfinished until the heat death of the universe.

Blueberry Habanero. Fantastic.

My go to.

If you like frank's, try this. It's much better. More pepper flavor less vinegar forward.

The cheap G.O.A.T. There is no reason to sully your palate with Cholula or Tapatios when this exists and is cheaper.

Hot sauce from a sticker company. It's great, low on heat.

Again, a surprisingly great sauce from an unexpected source. Not hot, just delicious.

Sriracha is fantastic with cheese. However, you need to (imo) let it age so it's dark like this before it's ready to consume.

Hot take: Tobasco is fucking disgusting. The chipotle stuff is good, but it doesn't even taste like tobasco so it doesn't count.

Melinda's is a good brand, I enjoy their Naga Jolokia and Bhut Jolokia sauces, and they typically include the pepper as the first ingredient.

Belizean Heat is also a good classis sauce, it's actually used a lot in Belize, it's like ketchup on a diner table over there. All of the Marie Sharp's sauces I've had are good.

And then the last one I really like to have is Rhino Peri Peri Kalahari Hot, it's great on sandwiches, not really hot but very flavorful.

Tobasco, Frank's, Sriracha and so on go without saying, they're a staple.

Blair's is easily the worst hot sauce I've ever had in my life, tasted bitter and hot, made my stomach super upset, genuinely the worst sauce I've ever tasted, it had a flavor similar to old coffee grounds.

I was holding back in the silly bitchell thread because I didn't want to be one of those threadshitters, but I am a total idiot for sauces.

Doesn't have to be hot sauce, but it's been something I've been trying different ones of.

I love the fruitiness of habanero sauces, but honestly that's probably my limit. I think people who go up to "da bomb" to be total fucking idiots.

Basic vinegar and cayenne sauce honestly has a charm to it. I don't like Texas Pete but think that might be due to buying it at the dollar store.

Most of my problems are with availability. Walmart has been surprisingly my best bet for sauces, and the one that has a good supply is a vulgar nightmare of minorities and everything is in the glass fish tanks of antitheft.

I want to send a hearty fuck you to Aion, Tabasco Sriracha is FUCKING GARBO. They use regular tabasco as the base, which fucks it, and then they add too much sweet. I ended up throwing half a bottle away. Thankfully Sky Valley is decent at its price point, and the new batch Huy Fong sucks ass.

On to Tabasco, I think I like their green sauce better than the regular. Chipotle was nice but I haven't seen it in a damn long time.

One interesting thing, I didn't notice much of a difference between Tabasco green and Louisiana gem green, and that saved me a lot of money. (LG is a 99 cents only staple)

Cholula is great, but has been sucked up by McCormick, so it may drop in quality over time. They're the ones who bring garlic to the game and do it right, unlike those Tapatio shitfucks who try to hide crap sauce behind spice level. They're garlic done wrong as far as hot sauce goes.

Franks is ALSO owned by McCormick, but has a celery flavor to it? It's good but not my go to.

Huy Fong can't stop fucking up. They literally turned their supplier into a competitor, and they pissed off slants HARD Those are some fun tik toks.

Nando's - I buy their chicken sauce but I don't know if I'd call Peri-Peri hot sauce, it feels more like a marinade to me.

A Smart and Final near me started carrying the Gringo Bandito sauces. The regular is fantastic, I'm not much enjoying the yellow, and my next will be the green.

I bought a bottle of this the other day and it is vile. Tastes like charcoal and there's barely any heat. Super disappointed because I really like some of their other sauces.

I got through a bottle of flatliner hot sauce, mainly used it in chilis and omelets. A couple drops into an omlet in a hot pan can fill the kitchen with a smell that makes your throat itch and eyes water/burn.
It has a fruity undertone, but the main thing you taste is the tomato base they use for the sauce, then a couple seconds after the heat hits.

Cholula is my favorite. Goes great on eggs. It's not particularly hot, but it's pretty tasty. I also like Sriracha, though I haven't had any in ages, since Huy Fong went retarded, trying to push around their own pepper supplier and losing, and their prices skyrocketed. The local Asian grocery store has a few alternative brands, but I'm never sure which to try.

Nooooo! Literally the worst news ever :'(

Thankfully Sky Valley is decent at its price point
Might have to try this one out, then.

It would honestly be one of the funniest business blunders ever if it weren't for the fact that they fucked up the supply and quality of a good sauce.

:left:
I only tend to use it in combination with a lot of soy sauce, tahini in the ramen etc so I like it for that purpose.
For most other things I would generally use another type of hot sauce.

I’m also trying to think of another thing I use tabasco on besides pizza and I can’t, not unless a recipe calls for it.

I hate katsu curry flavor for being too sweet, I also bought a bottle of jerk hot sauce once and it was so vile the whole thing went in the trash.

Oh yeah, tabasco on pepperoni pizza is fantastic, or eggs, or honestly anything that needs a kick. I love tabasco. It's just their sriracha that was DOGSHIT.
So we're cool now.

I like how in the how it's made on tabasco, the guy who checks it at the last step knows just about everything about the blend, but is candid. "Every time I walk in this room I get maced, but it put my kids through college".

He's so trusted the only thing they do after his check is a PH reading.

To BP, I don't think sky valley will disappoint you, I've been dumping it in a ton of recipes, most recently mac and cheese.

Sugriva, that black El Yuck looks like straight up Instagram bait. Tonight, when I had to hit the dollar store for some box milk, they had that fucking pink sauce. I didn't buy it.

Love me some good old Sriracha and Laoganma (doe it is a chili sauce thoeverbeit)

Even though I oftentimes eat non-spicy food, but real tongue-burning experience is the real good shit. Would love to get much spicier hot sauces to tune up my thrill for spice.

I think I've started to dislike chipotle based hot sauces the more I've had them. I just don't see a use for that very dark, strong flavour in anything but Chili's I think.
Used to be into hot sauces in the past, pain was a favourite. But nowdays I Just keep the heat high but not crazy high. No point in pushing the limits just to increase the tolerance.

Pretty sure I was just looking around on Amazon for popular sauces and these came up.

They're pretty good. Especially one in the middle. A lot of the hot ones sauces and the like are just too hot for me and make me shit crazy. The green one here is alright it's sweet and not really hot at all. The middle and left one are pretty good tho, also a bit sweet with a good heat level. Nothing life changing but I enjoy them. Also honorable mention franks Xtra hot goes good on whatever and has a decent kick compared to the regular one which isn't hot at all to me. There's other random ones I once picked up at a fair that I can't remember the name of that tasted really good but were hot as fuck. Here's one I remember. Has an "Asian" spin on it. Give it a try if you like that kinda shit.

Screenshot_20240116-111053.png

Edit: oh yeah heres another I just remembered that I liked. If you like the vinegar based sauces give this one a try. This brands shit is usually ludicrously hot (to me) but I remember this is tolerable. It's ghost pepper and hella vinegary. Try it I guess. It won't embed cause this site is gay but it should be attached.

Finally there's reaper squeezing which is basically just mashed Carolina reaper. Get it if you wanna blow your asshole open. My friend had a bottle I tried a little bit of it. Tasted good cause I like the Carolina flavor but I'm not dumping it on any food. Way too fucking hot.

That embedded for some reason idfk. Enjoy.
