I used to dislike Parlov's style immensely but over time that Euro shit really grew on me. I think i sperged about Chaykin and his work on Punisher MAX #50 before ITT, i have no idea what the fuck he was thinking. His artwork is beyond shitty in that, offensively so. I read American Flagg!, i know he can do much better.
The issue with Parlov is that he sticks out like a sore thumb compared to the others on the book. He worked for Barracuda because it's a more light hearted arc, and also the mini-series he did with the character, but the work he did on Long, Cold Dark and Valley Forge, Valley Forge was a step down from those. And yeah, Chaykin just half-assed his work at that time. Leandro should have done the final arc, or maybe Darrick Robertson since he did Born.

Having said that, I liked what Parlov did for the Fury: My War Gone By maxi-series and also the other Punisher comics he did.

villains like the Birthday Boy (a deranged manchild who kidnaps people to "attend" the parties he holds for himself)
Is that where they got the villain to Earth One Batman from? I figured he'd been made up to be a sort of Bane standin. Huh.

I remember looking at the people using a Twitter hashtag based around posting pictures of themselves burning that issue when it came out. One that stuck out to me was a blond, gay, British twink who had a complete scowl as he burned that issue. That just goes to tell you how much of a faggot that Comics Explained is, when an extremely gay looking boy is more punk than his retard soy boy ass.

I never read this one but it always amused me that so many people were convinced it was a legitimate retcon of Cap having always been a Nazi when it was so obviously going to end up being something else. Yes, this was when white male heroes were being phased out for diverse and female successors, but it was so blatant that this was going to be revealed later on as either a fake Steve Rogers or, as it turned out, someone messing with reality.

How was Secret Empire by the way?

Couldn't tell you. Never bothered with anything but a handful of Marvel comics back then since most were wokified. Honestly, that whole era, for better or worse, made me only want to read older stuff from Marvel and DC. DC had been fucking killing it with Rebirth. Then Brian Michael Bendis happened and Scott Snyder and Tom King were given free reign to put out whatever shitty books they wanted.

So I didn't realize that IDW had changed there logo, So I saw all these shitty looking IP comics and thought it was a new comics publisher. I knew that IDW did Godzilla comics (some were even good), but I thought they had lost the license like they did with all the Hasbro stuff.

"How are there multiple Godzilla comics being published and none of them look like there worth reading? Oh, it's IDW. What a shit logo."

Rereading Newuniversal. I loved the 1959 oneshot.

Wish it'd been continued, I know Ellis said he lost his scripts due to a computer failure, but I wish he'd just rewritten 'em.

I kinda just hit the wall with the X-men finally. I’m tired of it. I knew the moment krakoa came along, fuck all was going to happen in the end. There was a lot of things I barely cared for, but it actually had some good momentum. It wasn’t worth sinking money into, but it was pretty decent.

After, Bendis and this, I’m just good. Everything went no where, and now we’re just going to dock around until something bigger happens.

Rebirth was SO good, it’s unbelievable. It gave people exactly what they wanted. Barry yanking Wally physically from editorial nonexistence in a glorious full page spread. Clark planting the US flag on the moon and making wholesome dad jokes after years of headlines about how his “truth, justice, and the American way” schtick was outdated and also somehow racist? And then Bendis...

Christ, even the ad read like a threat.

I remember near the end of the Rebirth, Clark’s birthday issue, where it references his publishing history as he’s bouncing through time and space.

Where it becomes awesome is him vowing that nothing’s going to stop him, not time, not space, not even kingdom come, will stop him from getting back home. Then it’s him, Lois and Jon celebrating privately.

That’s the best end, nothing happened after, Jon didn’t get raped by Ultraman (Bendis and Taylor), Lois didn’t fuck off to space, Clark didn’t give up his identity and recruit The Authority as his goons.

That was Warren Ellis, right? Haven't read it but I liked Peter David's Spider-Man 2099. How long was the run?
It's around 45 issues. I'm still in the early issues, I think around issue 15-16, Warren Ellis still not in sight. The first 25 issues-ish are written by John Francis Moore.

Damn straight. I remember thinking at the time that it was amazing that no one at DC involved with that advertisement was reminded of those one-page previews of The Death of Superman that ran in the issues leading up to it that said, "Doomsday is coming!"

They had to be going for a "Kirby is coming!" vibe.

What I find myself wondering is, would Bendis have found a way to wreck Jon and the Super-Sons if Jurgens hadn't decided on bringing back Jor-El right before?
