That's too bad because it's actually quite good. As far as superhero comics go it's quite original and it's probably the best of the absolute titles right now. If it makes you feel better they're taking a break so no new issues for awhile so you don't have to see anything about it for a few months.
Yeah, it's witty and all, but I don't think the comic is quite my speed. Or, more likely, I'm not its speed anymore.

Maybe 20 years ago when I still had some edge to me. But, unironically, I'm glad you're enjoying it. I really love the medium of comics, and a rising tide raises all ships.

What's everyone's opinion on the EC Archives reprints by Dark Horse?:

I've seen people (re:retards) on /co/ claim that the digital coloring ruins them, but I've looked at side-by-side comparisons to the original comics from the '50s and although they are different, and the reprints are brighter; that doesn't change the tone of them, at least for me. They're all pretty cheap on Amazon which makes me want to buy a bunch of them, but curious what anyone else ITT thinks if they've bought them before.

Also ordered the Green Lantern/Green Arrow Denny O'Neil/Neil Adams omni and excited to get that.

Good stuff in the archive versions

I was going through my old collection, and my opinion still holds firm.
What If? Captain America Were Revived Today? from 1984 is one of the single greatest superhero comic issues ever made.

I would go so far to say that reading this as a kid influenced how I view the concept of America to this very day, and more importantly what patriotism actually is. Captain America has always been one of my favorite heroes, and it's comics like this one that show why.
If you haven't read this one, do yourself a favor and do so. It's held up as a classic for a reason.

Jimenez WW omnibus shipped. Excite. Never read it but I had a DK WW book that talked about it. I like the covers from that period especially when the (then) current Diana meets 40s Diana.

Our Worlds At War seems to be forgotten although I've always called it the Imperiex War arc. Interesting the character of Maxima dies in it yet she's, to my knowledge, never been brought back. She was a major supporting player in the Death of Superman storyline.

OWaW came out during my most intense period of comic book fandom and I ate that shit up. If I'm not mistaken, it gave us our first instance of Superman doing his temporary level up to his golden state by flying into the sun. It also had that issue with the Human Bomb which was narrated with letters being sent home to the families of soldiers who had died in the conflict. Maxima stayed dead till the nu52, but she was brought back as a lesbian and an antagonist, iirc. I'm not sure if that's been reversed. Other notable deaths included Hippolyta and Lois's dad, who suicided in a nuclear tank on the White House lawn so Black Lightning could redirect the blast into a focused energy beam that melted an Imperiex drone. Oh, and Aquaman "died" fighting one in pretty metal moment, leading to the whole Obsidian Age arc later.

KEEP HITTIN' THE HOME RUNS, MARVEL

Amazing Spider-Man By Zeb Wells Omnibus Vol. 1
The fan-favorite writer begins his action-packed run!
lie /lī/ noun: lie; plural noun: lies - an intentionally false statement.

This run gets collected as an omnibus, why? I've seen shelves of unsold Zeb Wells ASM books more than once, I mean books quite literally gathering dust on shelves at stores. Yet Marvel seems to favor Wells despite everything. Meanwhile actual worthy runs of Marvel titles either take years to be completely collected in trade or omnibus form or don't get collected at all.

I look forward to not seeing this appear on the sales charts. It might be the first comics omnibus to sell a negative number of copies.

All this shit and no Chuck Austen bile fascination shit vomit Umcanny omni?

I'd love a Psylocke omnibus tbh. Vol 1 collects some cap britain, some uncanny, the revanche arc, Crimson dawn + mini, death and resurrection, and Exiles. Vol 2 could be New Exiles, her return to x-men, solo series, and both uncanny x-force series. Vol 3 is the uncanny arc with magneto, mystery in madripoor, fallen angels, excalibur, hellions, and second solo series. Did I get everything? God help them if they decided to do this with other characters.

We're finally getting the Messiah Omni.
For the first time in one volume, the epic trilogy starring mutant messiah Hope Summers!

With no more mutants being born, the future of Homo superior has never looked bleaker. At the seeming end of their evolutionary cycle, a miracle arrives — in the form of the first child born with the X-gene since the tragic events of M-Day! But this sudden source of hope spawns a bloody, violent and tragic conflict for control over the baby girl’s fate. To safeguard this infant, Cable takes her into the future but soon finds himself trapped there — with the relentless Bishop in hot pursuit, intent on killing the child! When Cyclops sends the black-ops squad X-Force forward in time to help, the battle is on! But when Cable finally returns to the present, will the girl he has raised, Hope Summers, prove to be mutantkind’s savior — or its damnation?

COLLECTING: X-Men: Messiah Complex One-Shot (2007); Uncanny X-Men (1981) #492-494, 523-525; X-Men (1991) #205-207; New X-Men (2004) #44-46; X-Factor (2005) #25-27; X-Men: Messiah Complex - Mutant Files (2007); X-Men: The Times and Life of Lucas Bishop (2009) #1-3; Cable (2008) #11-15; X-Force/Cable: Messiah War One-Shot (2009); X-Force (2008) #14-16, 26-28; X-Men: Future History - The Messiah War Sourcebook (2009); Second Coming: Prepare (2009); Second Coming (2010) #1-2; New Mutants (2009) #12-14; X-Men Legacy (2008) #235-237
I had the collected paperback of MC. But all I remember is that I think its after Rogue's team (Rogue, Mystique, Omega Sentinel, Cannonball, Lady Mastermind) splits because Rogue gets betrayed and critically wounded? And then I remember X-23 in some snowy area where she is attacked by Lady Deathstrike.....am I remembering any of this right?

I can't speak to the individual books in the archive, as I'm not that much of a fan, but I do own a best of collection that came out a few years back. The digital coloring is fine, imo, but they screwed up Judgement Day. I remember seeing a video in my teens (late 80s) where Bill Gaines is bitching that they wanted him to take out the beads of sweat on the black astronaut's face... I sort of forget what his point was beyond "censorship", but in this edition I have, they didn't take the time to color around the sweat, which in practical effect, does the same thing as erasing them, lol.

The memorial epilogue issue was neat, I liked the JSA playing a round of poker while waiting for Hippolyta's funeral to start, as "they were getting ready to say goodbye to their girl". At this point, the retcon of Hippolyta being the golden age WW was in swing and actually turned out to be pretty good.

10/10 issue. Lots of deaths. There was even some meta-commentary on the deaths of minor characters who'd never be remembered, like Strange Visitor. But I did enjoy how it spread across every generation of DC's heroes. Sam Lane's death was great. Aquaman's fake-out death was pretty good too (Guy Gardner's too, lmao). Maxima, Strange Visitor, and a few others that I only vaguely recall were interesting.

The end of the issue's "return" of the "presumed dead" like the Kents and Young Justice was nicely timed and paced. I'm surprised the OWaW event isn't enjoyed by more people. It's a clusterfuck, grand in scale, and limited to a strange and forgotten-ish era of DC, but I found it to be a guilty pleasure.

Also, the image of Morrison's JLA standing tall as the primary defense force against Imperiex was thematically cool. I vaguely recall Kyle realizing that the presence of just one GL meant so much.

Fun event. Don't think we'll get anything like it in that way. The Imperiex "Drones" were big tough fucking things. Modern events have a OWaW-level event every 6 months and it's tiring.
