I feel like there's something off about both the current Ultimate Marvel line and the Absolute DC line. Both of them want a world that's clearly different from their mainline worlds (which are already barely similar to real life), but at the same time they want to tell some stupid moral about the real world, the typical "fight the power guys! we're the resistance!" stuff. I just want to read a good, interesting story. Can they do that and not write a lesson into it? With Ultimate Marvel you had that "well actually you can totally reform racists through meditating, plus there's a cabal of secret elites running the world that we need to stop" and Absolute DC's Superman series right now is clearly going on about "oh no the poor downtrodden nobodies are being oppressed by the police and we need someone to stop them." Like damn, can you write a story instead of writing a bad moral?
Edit: And you know that for the "lessons" they're talking about, they totally mean that the politics they support aren't also the ones who are doing exactly what they want to teach a "lesson" about.
