The precise question that came into my head was "how relevant has Alan Moore been lately?" What has he done in years? Has anyone had a glimpse at this Jerusalem novel? Given his general misanthropy and hermitry, what's prompted him to take part in this outpouring to the general public? Money worries?

Erik Larson seems really strange, there's definitely something going on there.

I’m really just at a loss. I did a two hour+ deep dive into Savage Dragon and the Sonichu parallels are really shocking, then you remember that this has been a published, retail comic that’s been running for almost thirty years.

Apparently nobody is reading it and yet it still keeps on coming, is it appeasement? Is Todd letting this lunatic do his dumb coomer comic as a way to keep him quiet?

I’m gonna look into Larsen tonight, there’s gotta be some lulz to be had. No normal person makes that nightmare fuel and passes it off as if it’s normal.

Image hasn't been a boys club for ages. It's now basically Vertigo 2.0 because DC, under orders from Warner Brothers, changed their policies for creator owned work to be published at Vertigo basically allowing Warner Brothers all media rights to any Vertigo creator owned book which they could sit on for 10-20 years as far as holding those rights hostage so that, even if Warner doesn't want to make a TV show or movie or cartoon out of your book, you are legally barred from selling it to one of Warner's rival companies.

When the change went through, Jim Valentino basically killed all of the previously established vetting standards and so long as the Image leadership caste likes you and your artist and you can pay the publishing fees (Image makes creators pay those upfront rather than taking them out of the profits), they'll publish your work. Which led to an influx of people who normally would have taken their stuff to Vertigo and a toxic surge of SJW crap in the company.

In another world, Todd Macfarlane would probably be a lolcow. But I get a kick out of him constantly stirring up shit and coming out on top.

Like recently when he said that boys playing with female action figures turn them into serial killers, inexorably based take from Todd.

I remember Malcolm in the Middle's first episode mentioning image comics. I remember reading Savage Dragon and then putting it back because it seemed like a really boring criticism of other cape comics with ultra-violence. The Ultra-violence had terrible art, too.

I knew of it but I’d never read one until last night. My experience with Image comes primarily from Spawn and Haunt.

There very much is a change from S1/S2 of YJ to the later seasons. The level of action goes right down, it becomes very slow, depressing and whatever he says, the "non-binary" stuff with Halo makes no sense. No does her becoming Muslim. I mean, an alien intelligence that has seen countless worlds and existed for tens of thousands of years arrives on Earth and suddenly thinks that some 7th century slave owner might have the one true line to God? I mean, she's from whatever that world is that has the New Gods on it. She literally hangs out with gods. Sure, they're not the "God God" that the Spectre serves, but even so she'd have enough perspective that I see no reason at all Islam wouldn't just be some local myth to her.

How is thinking you don't have a sex when you clearly have one any less of a mental illness than anorexia for example? And if he thinks it's about rejecting gender binaries, well the whole trans movement is fundamentally based on gender stereotypes or else why would anyone not feel they were their actual sex in the first place? Mental. Illness.

I stopped watching part way into S3. I'm sure I'm far from alone. I thought Geoff Johns had something to do with YJ, though. Did he leave the show or was he never part of it?

He never was part it. The leads are Greg and Brandon Veitti. Their main artist did quit this season, but they never said why.

Then only thing that changed is that, given this is not in Cartoon Network anymore, they don’t have to worry about censorship and making this kid friendly.

So they made this an insufferable woke show the instant they knew they could get away with it.

Because, you know, at least kid’s shows need to make a profit.

Does anyone else think that Asian woman that the current Savage Dragon is banging is ugly which doesn't help? The sad thing is that Larsen wasn't always like this. He was more restrained at one time. It's sad when a one-time tolerable writer/artist falls.

On another topic, I've been reading a pretty good mini-series called, All Guts No Glory. It's about a high schooler who has a secret job cleaning up after monster hunters until him and his adult mentor meet a woman who is on the verge of permanently becoming a vampire. It's a bit of a coming of age story with a main villain who I could see being played by the late Meatloaf. The last issue should be out hopefully this month.

Well I've got a copy sat on my shelf, so yes. He's not a misanthrope or a hermit just because he's not terminally online, he's involved in tons of stuff but mostly local to Northampton. If you contact him and don't start sperging out about superhero bullshit he'll happily talk to you, he's a really nice and pleasant bloke to chat with.
I don't know about his finances, but he owns his own home and lives pretty modestly, so residuals from reprints of Watchmen alone would be keeping the wolves at bay, I'd think.

There are places where the story is well conveyed through the art, but as usual, some 'writer' has to remind us they exist and jam their clumsy words into every corner. 'Lizardskin satchel'. 'Prehistoric snakes'. Shut up!
The second example is worse. They already have the narrative caption explaining what Conan and Valeria encounter, that we can already see right there. Then they go over it again in the driest of dry expositions between the pair. It's noticeable enough to jar the flow.

And like you say, awkward sound effects. Got to make sure everyone knows giant reptiles go 'roooaarr' and 'snap'!

Still, it's not much to complain about compared to the overall story. I.e, the art. It was when I tried Queen of the Black Coast that I lost interest.

That vilayet monkeys design is a bit shit.

I liked this one to be honest, but I know nothing about Conan, I read just one book of the american marvel version, so it is all new to me.

The Maneaters of Zamboula artist reminds me of Patrick Gleason.

I’ve been rereading Alan Moore’s Swamp Thing run, I consoomed that Black Label box set.

Kudos to Alan for making a dork like the Floronic Man intimidating and creepy, Monkey King was a good one too. That storyline was like IT without the gangbang.

I disagree; he makes Floronic Man scary smart for like three issues, THEN turns him into an irreversibly insane "kill all humans for nature!" nutjob and keeps him like that. It wasn't until the very end of the series, when Millar brought him back, that Floronic Man was suddenly written as sane and rational and even then, got curb stomped hard.

That said; is the Black Label box sets of the six ST trades the recolor version? I've been desperate to get my hands on it but the anti-recolor butt-hurt brigade in the pirate community apparently refuses to scan the Absolutes, even though the Absolutes have sold off immediately upon release and V1 having had a second printing (which sold out ASAP).

I really want to see it, especially the recolor version of the infamous "Just Say Uncle" scene; which IMHO is the scariest moment of the entire Moore run.

The six trades have the original coloring. Everything I've seen of the recoloring is pretty nasty but if you really want it I imagine DC will use the recoloring when they do an omnibus set or oversized hardcovers (from what I've seen DC uses absolutes as "test rounds" before they publish stuff in longer formats)

On my comic reading list I have just finished the 300 issues of Cerebus which have now dethroned From Hell and the best comic series. I've started reading the Squadron Supreme classic Ominbus by Marvel which has a nice sampling of Squadron Supreme crossovers which span a lot of marvel publishing history along with the 12 issue miniseries which is the most famous squadron story. On the way I have the Captain Britain omnibus which has everything before and even some stuff after the Moore run. I started reading the Moore CB online but decided to hold off and read all the previous comics in the omni. Captain Britain fits pretty comfortably with Marvelman, Swamp Thing, and Supreme as Moore's superhero deconstruction/reconstruction stories. It lacks a central point like the other 3 do but it is funny how this obscure Britain only series ended up introducing stuff that would play a massive role in Claremont's X-men/Excalibur and also setting up the modern Marvel multiverse.

I think the hate for the recoloring of ST is insanely overblown given how only a handful of pages are available online for people actually fucking judge it, combined with the aburd level of butt-hurt over not even SCANNING it so people can get the full actual picture of how it was recolored forcing people to effectively have to blind buy the three absolutes, which is obscenely expensive given how quickly they sold out for fuck's sake. And given the "fuck you stupid fanboy" response given by DC over the Sandman, Killing Joke, and Flex Metallo recolorings, it's insane that they are suddenly gunshy about the Swamp Thing recolors; especially since DC has always treated Moore's Swamp Thing as the red headed stepchild of his DC works.

(And for those asking, the only pages that have leaked are random pages from #20 that were used as preview pages for the first absolute and some low quality cell phone photo pics of the acid sequence from #34 and some of the pin-up artwork in the extra section for the first absolute)

What the fuck happened to Young Justice? The second half of the new season started off so weird. What is it with comics and Western cartoons constantly pushing MMF poly relationships and threesomes? I legitimately laughed my ass off when Lagoon Boy charges towards a fight and yells "My wife and husband!!" And then Halo spends a good couple minutes talking about her feelings with her former Muslim family. Who are the typical comic book Muslims that are simultaneously really trad and conservative, but also really accepting and progressive. She also spends the final moments of the episode deciding that she is not a she, but a they/them.

I had forgotten about your post, and I'm glad I did, because the same thing ended up happening to me. I can't even be mad at that, it was funny at least. God, this word is overused online but Lagoon Boy is such a cuck. Probably a (do fish count as furry?) furry Gary Stu for those hack writers.

Since I already endured most of the stupid shit so far anyway, I think I'll finish this season out of morbid curiosity, hopefully there's more laughable dumb shit like that.

Good news! Rocket's son is autistic, as in the type that screeches when they leave home without their hat and likes to pass the time spinning wheels on their toy cars. Episode 18 is also dedicated to the memory of Rene Auberjonois, which is cool and all but he died 3 years ago which, when combined with the series' very erratic release schedule, tells me that this stuff has probably been in development hell for a while. Refusing to scan it at all is completely over blown but from what I've seen on youtube it looks pretty bad. Like The Killing Joke and Flex Mentallo are both good recoloring jobs with just some controversial creative choices (this is coming from someone who prefers the original colors in both cases) the swamp thing recolors just look amateurish and too much like a generic modern comic. There are some pages which look fine but over all it is just makes the book look too unrecognizable.
