Someone mentioned Slott, I was reaving Batman Adventures Volume 2 and he is pretty good on that.

How common is to see good writers slowly getting worse and worse as the time goes? It is using all their best ideas early or just the degradation of the job?

It really is amusing how prevalent insanity is amongst comic creators and those who adapt their work into other mediums. Alan Moore, Frank Miller, Bruce Timm, Greg Wiseman, Zack Snyder, any of the blue hair nu-hires, Dan Slott, Jeph Loeb, Bendis and so many more.

I don’t know how this strain of insufferable insanity came about but it is entertaining.
You are probably aware of insane fandoms like WhoLock, Supernatual fan girls, Potterheads, Firefly superfans, or people obsessing over CW DC shows. Imagine the mess there would be if these fans were allowed into management positions, where they could influence media they obsess over. That's exactly what happened in American comics. Sane creatives see this and avoid the industry. Ones passionate enough about the medium carve out their own small niche, and stay away from crazies. If someone sane decides to enter the mainstream comics industry, they are either run out or get burnt out. Some go crazy themselves as they have to deal with drama, lack of professionalism, and other messed up behaviors that are considered normal in the American comic book industry.

I could only make it through a dozen issues of this garbage. The Asian girlfriend is fucking Savage Dragon every other issue, they're always walking in on other people fucking, there's weird shit with the kids that screams fetishes (they visit a cafe where you eat "poop" from "toilet" bowls), "hey let the kid watch that's hot as fuck honey" (Ed: We couldn't print this part! Don't wanna go to jail pal, you're an Image partner!), then the Asian girlfriend gets dragon blood and transforms into a titty-dragon but gets cured but now she has braces because it unfixed her teeth. Also she shaves her bush right after this. Also she frequently wears those Japanese socks you have to glue to your legs. Maybe she calls Dragon "daddy" in a future issue but I had to tap out.

>People don't realize that Savage Dragon is literally just Larson's masturbation diary and political sperging

He's like Chris-chan except part of a failing company. I'm pretty sure he pays for Savage Dragon out of pocket, it sells like maybe 2000 an issue, but that might just be they ship 2000. They might literally force companies to buy like ten copies for other image shit that does sell.
If Larsen wasn't on the ground floor of Image when it started, he'd be a lot poorer. Japanese artists at least make their fetish art either good or hyper specific. His anatomy has always bothered me because it's not detailed enough to call a style, just kinda like Rob Liefeld and feet.

I'm pretty sure both Dragons relocated to Canada when Trump won. Also he shilled Biden.

I've heard of Larsen's shenanigans in Savage Dragon, but fuck me. :o

How is Image failing? I'd think that with DC and Marvel circling the drain they'd be picking up sales.

I've heard it put that Image, Dark Horse etc. are the books you also pick up when you go to the comic store for your Marvel and DC haul.
Also, they were leaning into progressive themed books and creators for the last few years. That stuff always goes down well.

Can you elaborate?

I am genuinely curious, because recently he had a meltdown on his question an answer site, after someone criticized him for turning Young Justice into a woke fest SJW mess.

There very much is a change from S1/S2 of YJ to the later seasons. The level of action goes right down, it becomes very slow, depressing and whatever he says, the "non-binary" stuff with Halo makes no sense. No does her becoming Muslim. I mean, an alien intelligence that has seen countless worlds and existed for tens of thousands of years arrives on Earth and suddenly thinks that some 7th century slave owner might have the one true line to God? I mean, she's from whatever that world is that has the New Gods on it. She literally hangs out with gods. Sure, they're not the "God God" that the Spectre serves, but even so she'd have enough perspective that I see no reason at all Islam wouldn't just be some local myth to her.

How is thinking you don't have a sex when you clearly have one any less of a mental illness than anorexia for example? And if he thinks it's about rejecting gender binaries, well the whole trans movement is fundamentally based on gender stereotypes or else why would anyone not feel they were their actual sex in the first place? Mental. Illness.

I stopped watching part way into S3. I'm sure I'm far from alone. I thought Geoff Johns had something to do with YJ, though. Did he leave the show or was he never part of it?

Savage Dragon is Sonichu, poor handling of “present day” events, inconsistent as hell schedule, self-insertion, repulsive sex scenes, writer/artist and hideous art. This is just surface level shit that I picked up in the last hour of research, I’m sure there’s more similarities that an actual reader could find.

Does Larsen have autism?

Well somehow they made Robert Kirkman a partner and Invincible was getting like 12,000 sales at the end. I guess one popular TV show is all you need.

How is Image failing? I'd think that with DC and Marvel circling the drain they'd be picking up sales.
Kirkman's The Walking Dead was in the top five or at the very least top ten best selling comics throughout most of its publication. I do not think something like that happened since the 90s Image's heydays. He became a partner in 2008 and the TV show premiered two years later. Invincible was selling well at one point, but it was the Walking Dead that really made Kirkman popular.

As to image failing, this is the first time I am hearing about this. They won't get a boost from big two fanboys abandoning the ship. Most people who read DC and Marvel want to read their favorite, corporate owned characters. Ones interested in something else are already reading other comics and manga.
Relatively low sales are par of the course for non big two publishers. Image is a tiny company (18 employees) and cheap to run. McFarlane or Kirkman could easily keep it around as a vanity project if they wanted to. Books like Saga sell well enough in TPBs market, and people are still buying TWD TPBs and spinoffs. Spawn still sells hundreds of thousands of copies per issue. Radiant Black is moving close to 100k per issue and it fills the niche that Invincible used to. Skottie Young has a dedicated fanbase buying his books. I don't think Image is in any danger, even with recent unionization attempts.

On Dark Horse and Manga, they've had excellent judgment on which manga to publish- stuff with lasting appeal like Berserk and Hellsing, and they publish it in some kino deluxe editions, too.
I knew Greg was a fag, but his way of writing just perfectly encapsulates fag shit. The second and third paragraph are just peak, "I'm better than you, so I'll go on a tangent before calling you stupid." Only fags and pseudo-intellectual faggots do that shit. The dude is a 40-50(?) year-old white guy without kids or a wife and he's still in the fucking closet, he can't admit to being a fag when every show he has needs a character that's 'gay coded'.
I'm not a huge fan of Greg Wiseman shows. Spider-Man is incredibly hard to do wrong, a poor-yet-bright kid fucks up and decides to try to do the right thing. Gargoyles was always really fucking boring to me, just didn't like any of the characters. It felt like the Sam's Club brand superhero show.

Come on. Don't leave us hanging. If it's good we could probably make Wiseman a thread of his own.
Gargoyles' biggest draw was having a solid voice cast and a cool theme song. That's literally it. At best it's the house of mouse's attempt to answer BTAS.

Image has always been a Boy's Club. It's where the 90's comic pros who wanted to be rockstars went and it kinda burned out. It's a pitch bin, the Walking Dead came out at the peak of Zombie stuff and managed to weather because American Horror fans have terrible taste. Kirkman's success is literally because people liked Zombie stuff and then they picked up his Superman/ DBZ/ Spider-Man cuckhold fanfic. Image itself has basically been bleeding while other alternatives pop up. Dark Horse and other companies are tripping over themselves to distribute manga.
Spawn and Young Blood have ever shrinking fan bases.

Honestly, if I didn't antagonize Null with every @ I throw at him I'd probably tell him to look at Image. Image is just a series of fuck ups and egos. The American Comicbook industry has it's share of cows. The British comicbook industry is aging socialists who can't deal with the fact that they're becoming old irrelevant men.

Keith David was too good for it. I never understood why they made MacBeth a character when the whole play is about how he's a pussy-whipped schizo.

I did not read “Savage Dragon” much past the first year or so, like most Image comics, but..what the fuck, Eric?
Nsfl:

No one reads or buys Savage Dragon anymore but Larsen kept pissing off the SJW indie folks who complained that he used the annual "free comic book day" special to promote Savage Dragon. So he decided to go full hentai with Savage Dragon to try and drum up sales for it.

Image hasn't been a boys club for ages. It's now basically Vertigo 2.0 because DC, under orders from Warner Brothers, changed their policies for creator owned work to be published at Vertigo basically allowing Warner Brothers all media rights to any Vertigo creator owned book which they could sit on for 10-20 years as far as holding those rights hostage so that, even if Warner doesn't want to make a TV show or movie or cartoon out of your book, you are legally barred from selling it to one of Warner's rival companies.

When the change went through, Jim Valentino basically killed all of the previously established vetting standards and so long as the Image leadership caste likes you and your artist and you can pay the publishing fees (Image makes creators pay those upfront rather than taking them out of the profits), they'll publish your work. Which led to an influx of people who normally would have taken their stuff to Vertigo and a toxic surge of SJW crap in the company.

Erik Larson seems really strange, there's definitely something going on there.

That's what I mean by Boy's Club. Kirkman is one of the faggots who's ring you have to kiss along with the founders who hung around. Image will toe the line if you pissed off someone at DC and Marvel. It's just they can let you in and fuck you over because Image is like a tranny janny that you pay.

I liked Gargoyles well enough (and still do, watched some of it not too long ago). The biggest draw for it was the heavy emphasis on serialized storytelling and continuity. The DCAU wouldn't really start worrying about any of that until Superman and even then it was still fairly weak; it wasn't until Justice League that it became a major emphasis.

I caught wind of this some time ago.

The precise question that came into my head was "how relevant has Alan Moore been lately?" What has he done in years? Has anyone had a glimpse at this Jerusalem novel? Given his general misanthropy and hermitry, what's prompted him to take part in this outpouring to the general public? Money worries?
