I am reading the Kingstone Bible and holy shit, the old testament is so repetitive it hurts.
But hey, they finally appear, the bible angels

This art looks terrible. The Old Testament is literally Jews fucking up constantly and killing their own prophets until they want a king, then Saul fucks up and David comes along to be the fucking golden boy who still fucks up and kills his most loyal guy because he was horny.

Bible adaptions generally suck unless you get an actual historian and people who understand that the Bible as we know it is not always in chronological order. God help you if you get some autist who won't entertain the idea that Moses and Daniel were actual people.

The art is okaysh, there are lots of artists in this book, so in some stories are better and other worse.
I am at the Prophets book and shit, it is still repetitive. But I can tell you for sure that the other ancient gods like Baal, Dagon were living rent free in God's head. When you read it, they do nothing, just receive offerings and idols, but god is always REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE at them.
It is unintentionally funny.

Also Hosea being ordered to be a fucking cuck not once, but three times is fucking bizarre. He is the biggest simp so far all because of god

Yeah, they kinda take out the important part of the Bible where Baal and Dagon demanded human sacrifice. A huge part the Christian Religion is that sacrifice doesn't matter, Jesus' dying on the cross literally did it for all of humanities sins; throughout past, present, and future. You should obey the moral law passed down by God and the prophets, but sacrifice is something that matters in the sense of the old world then it does now. It's a payment to a metaphysical force, the concept that all debts have been paid by Jesus was shocking to a lot of converts. The entire idea of sacrifice eludes me because I never really got it, certain concepts no longer apply to us because civilization or our understanding of the universe have advanced.
There is a minor school of thought in Christian Culture that Sin prior to Christs' sacrifice was a physical thing that you could put on animals and grain and shit. It's a very interesting idea.

Hosea might literally be an allegory for Jews at the time. Him being cucked is literally just the Hebrews being idiotic and allowing in bullshit. However, it's funnier if you take it as Hosea being a horny bastard who God is telling he'll fuck up if screws that bitch. Prophets is literally Jews fucking up while waiting for the Messiah and their struggles with the World around them.
If you dig into history it's pretty interesting. Like the story of Daniel is him being a cockroach around two major empires.

The issue that I have with Biblical adaptions is the same as with adaptions of any major war. They don't actually dig into the history around it. They ignore the unpleasantness of the World and undermine the message that the World is unpleasant because God gave us free will and free will gives us the option of sin. You can't really understand WWII without going into WWI, Weimar Germany, and the British being at fault for causing a German stim out. A lot of stories in the Bible are written for a clear moral, but they make a lot more impact when you understand the history.
It's why you get a lot of people who get autistic about Reddit atheists shitty takes on religion.

It is honestly hard to hate Kyle Higgins’ Massive-Verse. It’s got decent writing, good art, a unique Japanese tokusatsu inspired aesthetic no other comic shares, organically written ethnic and LGBT characters, and seems well planned out for a new shared universe (don’t want to jinx that one though).
I get not everyone would be more excited for another superhero universe but it’s still nice to see a passion project run competently and getting so much positive attention in a short amount of time.

I am an atheist just reading it for fun. Actually I think the story of the bible (the book, not the content per se) is really cool, all those counseils and shit to decide what will be in and what will be left out is really interesting. The story of how we know when the changes were made by comparing the translation in different languages are pretty interesting.

I guess you feel like myself whenever the christian holidays came around and all biblical movies were shown on TV. It all feels so preachy and shit. I think the only one that felt kinda entertaining too was the Prince of Egypt by dreamworks.
But since most of these adaptations are done by christians themselves, they tend to sugarcoat the stories in the same way disney does with old stories. But all this shit about adaptation made me remember this page:

In the third panel, there is corn... And corn is from the americas, so it being there rustled my jimmies haha and since it is mostly adapted from the king james version, you have this problem

Also, you seem knowledgeable about the bible, what is the most complete version of it with the most ammount of apocryphal texts?

Anyone know the current state of the Legion reprints or New Teen Titans?

They finally published the last trade of material leading up to the rebranding of v2 to New Titans but canceled the "collect the spares" omnibus that would have collected the anti-drug specials, guest appearances, and Teen Titan Spotlight.

Similarly, there is no news about what kind of new Legion stuff we'll be getting, like new printings of Great Darkness Saga and a reconfigured trade for the rest of V2 and V3 with The Curse/LOTSH V2 Annual 3 and the Tales stories inserted into V3 #1-13 in proper storyline order. Or if we'll get a Bronze Age Legion Omnibus even.

You can buy a collection of them. King James is fine, most English Bibles really don't deviate much from that, it's the basis for a lot of other ones like the Catholic and Orthodox translations besides a few words. If you get one with annotations for teaching; Methodists, Catholics, and Greek Orthodox have a lot of resources. My brother married into an Italian family and I got curious after falling away from religion for a while. My autism peaked when at the engagement party I talked to an older guy for hours. The actual history of Christianity is neat, the issue is that Protestant Black myth and reddit atheism really obscure the more interesting parts. The Schism is interesting because of how much geopolitics played a role in the breaking of the Church.

Certain Books require a lot of self-reference to older Books of Bible. Revelations references Isiah and Daniel so much that you can't do a dry reading of it. It's pretty neat when you read a lot of sayings originate somewhere in the Bible or that in context they're easier to understand.

English isn't my first language, so for my people there are also lots of variations fo the bible (and translations from the KJ version too), but most of the most usual are from a portuguese priest back in 1681, So there are lots of revisions and clarifications of it. It was translated from the Greek mostly with bits and pieces of latin, hebrew and so on with the new additions. Funny thing is that the last book in the new testament in english is called Revelations, but in portuguese is straight up the greek word Apocalypse.
I was watching some videos about bibles yesterday but I guess what I want simply doesn't exists or at least not in a well made collection with all the anotations and context of the writings for the apocrypha.

1661050492595.png

for example this collection has 2350 pages but it is only the texts without any anotations or context.

And to be honest, I don't think I could trust these translations, not even the normal bible I feel that it is enough since the basis was done just by one guy and he died before finishing up the old testament (He started when he was 16 and it was initially translated from latin, only then he used the greek version).
Even for some complete new guy as me I kinda feel distrust towards it, even when it is basically the foundation for a mostly catholic country like my own.

Yeah, it kind of sucks for non-english speakers. I have no clue on Portuguese sources for all this, English and French speakers have a ton of sources when it comes to this stuff. It's funny because I've had a lot more conversations with Slavs and Spics than I have with Anglos and Frogs about Biblical stuff.

There is a large issue that some stuff is still not translated great into English from Greek or Aramaic. You have certain words that the meaning is either lost so you have to guess based on context or it's hyper-specific to a something 3000-2000 years old.

Off-topic to this actually interesting Bible discussion that I want to see continue, but does anyone know what happened to Gravity from Marvel?

He just seemed like he disappeared.

I remember he died in the overlooked BEYOND! miniseries by Dwayne McDuffie and Scott Kolins, but later came back to life after Quasar's mentor Epoch resurrected him to fill in as Protector of the Universe. Then he joined Nevada's Fifty State Initiative team. then the Young Allies with Firestar. Since then he's only made cameos here and there.

It is really strange how language is. For example you know the word pseudo? It is a greek word, but in english the P is absent when you speak, making it like soo dou, but in greek and other latin based languages, we still pronnounce it with the P sound. The same goes for Potato, in the americas it was always like patata or batata, but in english it is potato for whoever knows what reason, and the pronunciation doesn't help.
But back to the bible stuff, my problem with these apocryphal texts in portuguese is that the translation in portuguese could be aswell translation from the english > portuguese. And english is a very simple language, anyone who knows latin based language can tell you that sometimes it feels even restrictive to express yourself. The verbs mostly not changing when you change the subject is something that I will never get used to, even more when in portuguese just by saying the same stuff in different intonation we can say the same words but in completely different meanings and intentions just using the same words.

Even more when speaking, since the intonation isn't that good or well used. (most animated movies really shows this, there is something off in how the english sounds like.
I think this song in these three versions (The road to el dorado) shows kinda what I feel:

The original in english:

the spanish one:

The castellano one:

the portuguese one:
the original one (english), you can hear the intent of the song, but all those versions clearly shows some intonations to the pronunciation that has this character in how each word is said that is very faint in the original.
But since our version of the bible is mostly based on the latin and greek, and the basis of our language is the same in both cases, I guess the translation isn't even that bad when I think by sharing the same basis. I guess the bible translated into japanese or chinese could be almost a different book since the way their structure in writing is totally different.

But thinking back, we couldn't even maintain the name pronunciation of the characters close to the original one. Both our languages completely destroys the J sound in greek in favor of Dí (dísus) or Jê (Jêsus). And it is even true to other mythological beings like Jason/Jasao in contrast to Iason. So we shouldn't sweat it that much.

This is part of the reason I have no interest in getting back into DC and Marvel. Continuity can get screwy if you aren't keeping up.

Unfortunately there aren't any indie books out now that interest me. I used to read Lazarus, but the wait time between issues just got insanely long I gave up on that too,

Speaking of bad news; the contents of Uncanny X-Men Omnibus 5 leaked and it's creating a MASSIVE shitstorm due to how it fucks over anyone who bought Mutant Massacre Omnibus, let alone Fall of the Mutants/Inferno Prelude/Inferno Omnibus.

Rather than including UXM Annual #10 and New Mutants Annual #2 to volume 5 to allow for it to slot right next to Mutant Massacre Omnibus, the two stories are being held back for V6 due to the fact that they are not deviating from repackaging the MMW volumes for the UXM omnibus line (as the two are in the volume with the Mutant Massacre issues).

As a result, there will be no way to really mix and match the existing omnibuses with the other hardcover Claremont books. Which also will kill sales for those event omnibuses.

Similarly, since it's a common line from Marvel these days that classic X-Factor "doesn't sell", they won't be including classic X-Factor with the Uncanny X-Men omnibus line. So unless they change their mind and give us an X-Factor omnibus or Masterworks, we are stuck with only the Epic line for X-Factor stuff or having to make due with the old Essential trades.

I acquired the original Transformers marvel comics again, man they were cringe but they are also magic. It really felt like an event.
Which issues did you get?

I've been putting off hunting down the remaining Titan trades to complete my run (which, while missing the filler issues and Transformers Universe/Movie adaption stuff, is the only volume that has the Headmasters mini in it's proper reading order and all of the Marvel character issues).

The original run up to when Shockwave came back and kicked Megatron’s ass. I got what’s collected as Volume 2 on Kindle. Dinobots, Constructicons, etc.

I started collecting the Claremont's X-Men omnibuses a while ago but eventually gave up. Between Uncanny, New Mutants, and X-Factor I realized there'd probably be like twenty omnibuses, which was just too much for me. Plus, Marvel for whatever reason constantly decides to not include various specials and one-offs, so even with all that money spent I still wouldn't have a complete collection of the '80s X-Men.

Speaking of omnibuses, Marvel's finally starting a line for Spectacular Spider-Man, which I'm looking forward to. They're also re-printing the old Wedding Album TPB, though I really wish they'd include the Parallel Lives special with it (the retcon that MJ knew about Peter being Spider-Man all along was dumb but aside from that I really like it). I'm actually kinda surprised they're re-releasing the Wedding Album -- is there any reason for them to do so in current Spider-Man?

I liked Circuit Breaker a lot, because her "i'm naked except for these circuits" look was pretty badass, and her motivation to kill all TFs in revenge for her injury added something different from the usual Autobots vs Decepticons battles.

Sadly, she gets omitted from some TF collections because she is owned by Marvel, not Hasbro. In fact, after the TF series ended, Marvel planned to give her and her team their own spin-off comic. It would retcon out her involvement with Transformers as a "training simulation" since Marvel no longer had the rights. Eventually nothing more than some concept art came of this and CB has been MIA from all TF media as long as Marvel holds onto her rights.

Money. It's an evergreen story with a huge fanbase, sold well when it was first collected and the Epic trade containing the wedding sold out pretty quickly.

As for X-Men; save for some guest spots, all of OG pre-PAD X-Factor was reprinted in the Essential line and even with some of the omissions, Essential X-Men is still the definitive go-to series to read the Claremont run due to it having the best arrangement material-wise compared to the Epics, Masterworks, and Omnibuses.

The only one that fails is New Mutants, which never got the Essential format due to issues with Bill S's artwork being unreadable in black and white when they did test printings. Also, the Classic New Mutants line skipped a LOT of key material (most notably Marvel Team-Up Annual #6, which has a direct sequel in the main series). The only reason to buy the Classics is that they keep Kitty's nigger moment uncensored (the omnibus infamously censored it) and has a better breakdown of the Bill S run, including the three issues by Rick Leonardi that wrap up the Shadow King story with the issues Bill S did at the end of his run.

While the forum was kill I went to /co/ and there was a thread about character assassinations that made me glad that I dropped capeshit.
I don't even like the character but making iceman gay was so awful that I cringe only by thinking about reading it for the first time.
