they had an ad talking about prostate cancer, i'm legit wondering if that caused any triggering because of "male privilege" or some shit

one of the guys on the couch during the ape escape 2 run got banned for apparently wearing a MAGA hat

Amazing. Someone caused drama at a GDQ event in record time :achievement:

The ongoing Borderlands 2 run is pretty good considering it's a co-op run. They're usually hit-and-miss, but these guys are entertaining.

Man, Ape Escape 2, that's a game I haven't played in a long time.

We need more of those games.

Make Ape Escape Great Again!

I got unbanned for 2 seconds because staff realized (in the face of overwhelming evidence) they were completely wrong and apologized. They then banned me because I somehow “damaged” their PCs while setting up mine, even though they had zero evidence against me. What they said I did (which I didn’t) was that I unplugged a cord I shouldn’t have, which shut down the PCs. They shut me up when I showed them the spot full of open outlets where I was (giving a reason for why I didn’t need to unplug anything) and when I asked to talk to the tech staff to see what they think I did they wouldn’t let me.

Cyberdemon531 got banned because staff realized he was actually wearing a MAGA hat on stream.

This is too funny. For years, people have been complaining that the GDQ events have become too safe thanks to them trying to appeal to a bigger crowd (and presumably their sponsors mandating changes as well). But right as they step out of line for just a brief moment in the expectation that their audience has just the slightest bit of thickness to their skin, they start acting like you're doing a live reading of Mein Kampf with commentary provided by Satan.

You know what the good thing is about being into RPG speedruns? Unless it's something really popular like Earthbound, Pokemon or Final Fantasy, it's guaranteed to never, ever show up at these events. Speedruns for SMT games, for example? 6 hours is on the lower end of the spectrum for those.

It's really easy to find someone on Twitter trying to appear morally superior in light of a controversial thing; this happened last year and the year before in response to Twitch users spouting memes in chat whenever a runner used the word "triggered" so of course a few people were complaining on the hashtag. Really they are just a loud minority and they know how to use Twitter to abuse that.

Apparently this admin in particular (Klaige) has a reputation for being a cunt. After people started talking shit on Twitter he protected his account and started blocking people, so that's that. Can't wait for an official statement on their side because the recordings and eyewitnesses don't make things look good for them.

Runs I'm actually looking forward to (that haven't been done already): RE 0 Wesker Mode, Salt and Sanctuary, Monday Night Retro Block (Blaster Master Warpless, Ninja Gaidens, Decap Attack, Adventure Island), MegaMan Legends, Metroid Prime 2, Fallout: New Vegas, Doom 2016, Ori and the Blind Forest Definitive Edition, Castlevania Block, Mega Man X, Nightmare on Elm Street 4 player, Turok, Furi, Donkey Kong Country SNES Relay, Super Mario Galaxy 2, Windwaker HD.

Also I think not only including Undertale, but using it to close out the marathon, is a huge mistake.

There have been a few individuals banned (silently or not) from running for being too much of a liability IIRC. It is a charity event and there is a reason based "fucking niggers" werster isn't running anymore. PCF and MSF don't want that.

Stream should start in about 4 hours.

The werster reason is probably because he swears like a sailor sometimes (pierce my arse open, anyone?), rather than just the "fucking niggers" which was because the donator who asked for werster saying that said he would donate again, and I think werster said that with a "whatever, i just want more donations flowing" tone.

But yeah, GDQ got too "children friendly" even if probably they're at school at the time. :story:

As far as non-drama stuff is concerned, the run quality has been pretty good from what I've watched. So far I enjoyed the OoT 3D run (nice and informative commentary about the version differences, but admittedly I was kinda distracted because that's when the first drama bomb hit), the Psychonauts run (way better commentary than last time imo) and the Salt and Sanctuary run (mostly for novelty since I've played it myself but never watched a speedrun of it before).

They're also very fast at uploading the VODs to Youtube at this point, so kudos for that.

The overlay has a nicer look to it this year. I like the animations on the donation tracker.

Salt and Sanctuary was cool, never seen that game. Kalima, Hook Girl, and Valdis Story were all good today too. There's been a ton of fuck ups so far though. Don't remember seeing so many botched runs in such quick succession.

Salt and Sanctuary had a ton of deaths, the Turing Test run had to be paused because they forgot there was a donation incentive that screwed up the run, Sunset Riders had a bunch of deaths too. Also there was apparently a really cringey commentator during FEAR or something but I haven't seen it yet.

Not to mention the MSG2 run where they had to stop seven minutes in due to audio issues.

Just noticed this on Azorae's twitter, but they've been permanently banned from GDQ for apparently pausing during the run.

The game they ran was The Turing Test. I didn't watch that one yet, but from what I've seen on r/speedrun/ there were communication issues between staff and Azorae during the run.

Azorae had to ask about 4 times to see where a donation incentive was at, and everyone was a bit pissy about it. People were left wondering whether the GDQ staff even checked the donation incentive to see whether the astronauts in the game were going to be saved or not, which is what PersonMcGuy is talking about in the twitter snip above. AGDQ seems to be very ban happy this year, and that attitude has never been very popular with the community. Just a while ago during the Rocket: Robot on Wheels run, the speedrunner, mashystrr, made a tongue in cheek comment about the earlier ban of PvtCb. I imagine the atmosphere for the actual runners being pretty abysmal, where you have to carefully cradle your speech to stop the overly sensitive staff from going nuclear.

EDIT: Apparently Azorae was just pulling a ruse cruise on being banned.

Says they were banned, gets pissy on twitter, and then lmaos at people taking them seriously about an event notorious for questionable bans... lol. :story:

Gonna be a lot of drama this year. Grab your drinks and popcorn, boys and girls!

"animation isn't art"
"expressive passionate animation is art"

these two are both dumb
i kinda fucked up my point; animation isn't automatically art, but it can be when it's not sweatshop gook doodles
hope that clears up what i meant to say
