The only good bit so far was when the fashion police run guy dunked on reddit jannies

Les Dawson, Developmentally Challenged Quentin Tarantino (In A Fucking Stupid Hat), Matt Hancock's Weird Nephew and A Generic Yakuza NPC have let themselves go.
Pokemon released too late to be submitted, LA has already been on at least once.Kind of disappointed there's not a run for Pokemon scarlet/violet or Link's Awakening 2019 on the schedule. I really like watching commentated runs of extremely fucking broken games and both of them definitely fit the bill, but it seems like all of the really fun broken runs like DK64/TTYD have all had their runners fuck off to greener pastures.
That said, are any of the chans doing a run tierlist this time or have they stopped caring as well?
I cant believe these weirdos failed to do a live event.
The stated reason is that Florida is too scary because of coof (what year is it?) and Ron Desantis Troon death squads, as if it was fucking Tehran or something.
It definitely suffers diminishing returns—not sure how many more years a room full of people yelling ORRRRB could have sustained itself—but GDQ seemed to sort of digivolve into a tranny networking event with a charity livestream attached. I'm sure there are enough degenerates itching to get their hands on some fresh young meat to make it a success in-person again, sadly.Oh yeah this burning garbage heap was going on
I highly doubt Florida was the real reason they cancelled the live event. Sure the troops hate Florida and desantis, but I doubt they could justify a live event with the viewership they bring nowadays. There's plenty wrong with gdp, but I think the biggest issue is that the content is boring. They have the majority same games with slight twists everytime. I feel like I was watching reruns everytime I tuned in. I'm sure the donation numbers are faked with incentives and sponsorship money as well.

Yeah I think a lot of the sincere runners stopped doing GDQ just because how much the "It's for chartiy!" thing kind of reared it's ugly head when it started to come out how much money GDQ was just going to GDQ - plus how secretive they are about how much money they actually make.Im fairly certain the majority of that money is just being pocketed after hearing about all the scandals and shuffling of upper management.
The announcer's autism about the "SAVE/KILL THE ANIMALS" forced meme and constantly talking over every single game was what really killed the event imo well before the grifters and clout chasers appeared. Still have no idea what it was about since it was presented as an inside joke.
I agree completely but that last point has me wanting to comment that GDQ, as an "organization" (if it can be called such), has been trying to push for exactly that sort of setup since the big COVID scare first took effect. GDQ is constantly running little mini-marathons and stream events throughout the year which amounts to exactly the same sort of content you've already been seeing at the last couple of years' worth of AGDQ and SGDQ: Gross trannies and autists at home with shitty setups.Yeah I think a lot of the sincere runners stopped doing GDQ just because how much the "It's for chartiy!" thing kind of reared it's ugly head when it started to come out how much money GDQ was just going to GDQ - plus how secretive they are about how much money they actually make.
Save/Kill the animals is a reference to Super Metroid - what used to be the "biggest" game of GDQ for a very long time. There are animals in the world that function as tutorials (for the power jump, wall jump, etc) but at the end of the game they are trapped somewhere during the "escape the planet" section. Samus can rescue them - but from a speedrun perspective it's a complete time waste to do so.
The major donation incentive for GDQs for a long time was either forcing the runners to spend the extra time to save the animals or to leave them to their fate.
GDQ going offline has been a disaster - the live crowd, while cringe, was the only major separating factor between GDQ and any other speedrun livestream. People don't normally watch speedruns of gross trannies at home with shitty setups - not sure why it's a surprise that people don't want to watch it with just GDQ branding slapped on it.
I'd argue that's always been the case. I'd noticed even back when GDQ was actually interesting and neat in concept that a lot of runners admitted they never actually learned their respective games casually and really only bothered to play certain games for the speedrun aspect of them. It's been quite noticeable over the years when some of these runners who have been top rankers for either only one game, or a small handful of games, started trying to break into variety streaming and ended up showing they had absolutely zero transferable skills onto other games. Like, just straight up "fish out of water" situations for these people where they played different games as though they've never actually touched a video game before in their lives. There's also been an uptick in people that don't really know the game being the runner. Sure they know the tricks, but it's just a list 9f tasks they perform without ever really knowing why they do it. It's a lot funner when you have someone that can explain why tricks are done, when/how it was discovered or whatever. Some frumpy trend chaser spedrunning a game because the game is easy to get a good time in isn't worth watching.
602 is mostly done as a challenge run that 3D Mario runners who mainly run one game do for entertainment, not as a serious category. This reeks of Cosmo/Narcissa running All Main Quests in BOTW, an unpopular category, to prove he's still got it and he doesn't need the speedrunning community.Runs - Claire - speedrun.com

What a surprise another runner without any real quality runs being showcased at AGDQ again. Someone with decent times in only extremely weird made up categories that no one cares about - in this case a speedrun that gets 602 stars in 4 games combined (Super Mario 64, Galaxy, Sunshine, Galaxy 2) and all kinds of other mashed together dogshit.
Wonder why that could be.

And now they can't even have someone on the couch explaining what the tricks are and why they're doing it.There's also been an uptick in people that don't really know the game being the runner. For GDQ it makes perfect sense - it's even less money they have to put into the event and it's not like they care about the product at all, provided it makes money. They get paid regardless of how many people watch and even with this current dogshit they're hitting 50k+ viewers.I agree completely but that last point has me wanting to comment that GDQ, as an "organization" (if it can be called such), has been trying to push for exactly that sort of setup since the big COVID scare first took effect. Nevermind, I spoke too soon.
It gets funnier.
Still can't top the fucking airlines tweets, but this is solid entertainment.Nevermind, I spoke too soon.
This right here is exactly the sort of train wreck shit that's entertaining from GDQ.
Very little could ever top the airlines handwringing because that, at least, had a run with solid, entertaining commentary that the No Fun Allowed tranny jannies at GDQ hated as context to the incident.Still can't top the fucking airlines tweets, but this is solid entertainment.
