Some guy in Spain has achieved the remarkable feat of being the first living thing in 66 million years to die by dinosaur.

Death by dinosaur

‘Police in Catalonia are investigating the death of a man who is thought to have become trapped inside a large dinosaur statue while trying to retrieve his mobile phone.

Officers were called to the statue in Santa Coloma de Gramenet, a satellite town of Barcelona, after a man and his son noticed something inside the papier-mache stegosaurus on Saturday afternoon.

A spokeswoman for the regional police force, the Mossos d’Esquadra, said the death of the 39-year-old man was not being treated as suspicious.

“A father and son noticed that there was something inside and raised the alarm,” she said.

“We found the body of a man inside the leg of this dinosaur statue. It’s an accidental death; there was no violence. This person got inside the statue’s leg and got trapped. It looks as though he was trying to retrieve a mobile phone, which he’d dropped. It looks like he entered the statue head first and couldn’t get out.

The spokeswoman said officers had called in firefighters to help cut into the statue so the body of the man could be removed.

“We’re still waiting for the autopsy results, so we don’t know how long he was in there, but it seems he was there for a couple of days,” she added.

According to local media, the dead man had been reported missing by his family a few hours before his body was discovered.’

For the curious, you can see a ladder here, that indicates there is an entry there. Why? Cleaning and maintenance, probably.

My guess, man wanted to take a pic of the inside opening that entry, dropped phone and when he tried to rescue it, died.

There is a csi episode like this. They thought a girl had been killed and dumped in the garbage storage. Turned out, her bin fell down the chute and when she tried to rescue it, she fell too and died.

god damn it, this is going to be one of those mysterious deaths that people on YouTube won't stop bringing up 10 years later isn't it?
Nexpo is gonna do a really dramatic, breathy video and read mostly Reddit posts about the dino while pausing twenty seconds between sentences. Seriously, poor guy. Nedry met a quicker fate.

What is with the perspective shifts in photos in this thread? In some the statue looks human sized the others its huge.

At least Nexpo is better than goddamn Chills. Having the burger king foot-lettuce 'tard read a summary of your death would be utterly humiliating.
Which is less humiliating, dying inside a dinosaur statue or having your eternal resting place be somewhere called Nutty Putty Cave?
It's close but the dinosaur is worse. Cave has a stupid name but at least John died while caving (a legit, legal, and somewhat macho hobby). Dying in a dinosaur statue trying to grab a phone is just embarrassing. RIP to all parties involved.

Isnt... that like what kid's art projects and pinatas are made of? How did he get stuck in there? I can't imagine it being hard to break out of.
Looks like there's little air inside, especially if one would get stuck head-first in the leg area. He probably had a quick death through suffocation.
