Some guy in Spain has achieved the remarkable feat of being the first living thing in 66 million years to die by dinosaur.

Death by dinosaur

‘Police in Catalonia are investigating the death of a man who is thought to have become trapped inside a large dinosaur statue while trying to retrieve his mobile phone.

Officers were called to the statue in Santa Coloma de Gramenet, a satellite town of Barcelona, after a man and his son noticed something inside the papier-mache stegosaurus on Saturday afternoon.

A spokeswoman for the regional police force, the Mossos d’Esquadra, said the death of the 39-year-old man was not being treated as suspicious.

“A father and son noticed that there was something inside and raised the alarm,” she said.

“We found the body of a man inside the leg of this dinosaur statue. It’s an accidental death; there was no violence. This person got inside the statue’s leg and got trapped. It looks as though he was trying to retrieve a mobile phone, which he’d dropped. It looks like he entered the statue head first and couldn’t get out.

The spokeswoman said officers had called in firefighters to help cut into the statue so the body of the man could be removed.

“We’re still waiting for the autopsy results, so we don’t know how long he was in there, but it seems he was there for a couple of days,” she added.

According to local media, the dead man had been reported missing by his family a few hours before his body was discovered.’

Stegosaurus is a a herbivore too. Maybe the guy was dressed up as a treestar leaf or something? RIP.

Also, how the hell did the cellphone get inside the dinosaur?

Nah, pretty sure people who fucked around with cassowaries and found out died by dinosaurs before this dude.

Eithet way damn, what a way to go.

Isnt... that like what kid's art projects and pinatas are made of? How did he get stuck in there? I can't imagine it being hard to break out of.
I'd imagine that it had a chicken wire skeleton to keep it rigid and some heavy outdoors paint to keep it from melting in the rain. Also, if it was tight enough to get caught inside there wouldn't be enough room to generate any sort of meaningful force to start breaking it.

Piñatas aren't that strong but you still need to smack it hard a few times to bust it open.

The dinosaur is a big, heavy structure. Also, yes, there is metal inside. They had to saw it to remove the body, which was upside down and couldn't get out. I'd say he choked and that's why he died.

Should have left him in there and let it be his final resting place. If I died inside a dinosaur statue I'd want my body to stay in the dinosaur statue forever.

The leg is big enough for a person to get trapped upside down (AKA John Jones caver who got stuck upside-down in the Nutty Putty cave several years back), but the stegosaurus’s long neck and small head seems too small for a human to crawl through. Could he have entered the dinosaur via an alternate path?

...on second thought, I don’t want to know...

If that's a picture of the actual statue, I'm much more interested in how he squeezed himself in, that throat area looks extremely narrow.

Maybe the hole was just made for him and he couldn't resist it.

I still don't know how the fuck it, or he got in there.
I best I can guess it he was taking a retarded selfie from inside the mouth, dropped his phone taking the photo.

How he climbed in, much less get down the throat is what confused me. Couldn't he have gotten help and gotten it fished out or the statue opened?

god damn it, this is going to be one of those mysterious deaths that people on YouTube won't stop bringing up 10 years later isn't it?

I was thinking of that as I was reading this. Poor John got stuck because he crawled through a section of the caves that wasn't marked on the map, thinking it was a wider section that was marked. Then he ended up headfirst in a downward bend and... Yeah, it's a really awful story.

Looking at the dinosaur, I would assume this guy ended up in a similiar position. He at least had the small luxury of dying quicker and not having his legs broken while rescuers tried to pull him out.
