Mostly thanks to streaming culture and its radical boost thanks to the china cough closing down theaters. Now suddenly you gotta have the streaming and theater releases back to back. A lot of people will just prefer to keep their asses home and watch it there...which doesnt produce as much profit if they actually went to the theater.

I wonder what will be the eventual outcome of this.

Well depends if people will go back to cinemas after covid. But too soon to say right now, however, not all the flops of this year can be put on covid, stuff like Chaos Walking and Spiral clearly would have flopped anyway and while something like Mortal Kombat just missed out in being profitable, I doubt people would have returned for a follow-up with how dull everything but Kano was in it that.

Hollywood needs to put more in quality or more so making movies that their target market will enjoy and not expect something being a known brand it will do well just on that, and cut budgets now, not every movie should cost $200million, like Black Widow.

One thing that amazes me is how nobody thought to try and revive drive-in theatres during the coof.

I heard South Koreans tried to. I also heard that those that tried were kind of bankblocked at every turn because of "muh risks" or that just too many people in one car was a risk for corona spread.

$20 million budget, $37 million gross, so yeah flopped but hard to say how much with knowing how much Lionsgate spent on marketing, however, think even without covid it was going to be the lowest-grossing of the Saw movies. A Quiet Place Part II and The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It while grossing less than movies before it still did very well, horror is legit only genre doing well right now, so yeah.

Spiral's borderline failed, but if it gets over 40 - 50 million it wouldn't be a loss. You need to basically make double to break even on average, though ideally it's closer to 3-4 times due to theater cuts.

It's why I think Hollyweird's last gambit before they die from their fake and gay economy collapsing or because they get the rope will be to only stream so they can get full profit.

With vod and the such will get over $40million, you are right about the make double to break even on most movies, but I'm going off this likely had a higher marketing budget for that rule to be true here.

The fact that famous books like this and some of Stephen King has some of the most disgusting and cringiest shit that somehow was allowed by the editors and publishers makes me think MY editor is full of shit over my writings...
