Ok, so I need to bring this up because it's REALLY bothering me. I don't know how the fuck store stock works but the local targets by me have a very serious fucking problem, one I haven't seen since ghostbusters 2016, and even then it wasn't as insane as this. Space jam new legacy merchandise and toys are like a festering plague akin to funko pops but more erratic, because Instead of restocking shelf space of items that went out of stock because the stock got bought up, they just throw space jam a new legacy shit in there. it doesn't sell. It hasn't sold. The first batch of stock is still there and has been gathering a thin layer of dust on it. Somehow, they keep either ordering more or are just being sent more without asking for more. Some items that were meant to go to shelf months ago got filled with space jam new legacy shit in their slots instead, conveniently the shit that's scalped on ebay for 200 dollars because the stock for the things haven't shown up at any physical retail. Weird shits going on with this movie's merch and I do not like it. I'm predicting in a few decades there's justgonna be a landfill full of toon lebron james slime toys.

It literally does not matter what area of the store you're in, if something runs out of stock there's like a 50% chance it will be replaced by space jam new legacy shit.

It’s not “something weird”, just out-of-touch corporatards thinking that these mass-produced blockbusters can still sell toys.

You think they would’ve learned after Disney SW toys rotted on shelves.

I'm glad we got a side-by-side comparison of the Tune Squad jerseys just to know just how fucking awful the new uniform looks. Because despite both of them having the iconic Merrie Melodies rings, the original Tune Squad as the font you'd expect to see on something sports-related and right on top of the rings and finely balanced and the uniform's all white because it's generic and safe enough to not look like any other uniform out there. Meanwhile the other has the sponsors tacked on to the shoulders, with Tune Squad having a bland bolded look, and isn't even smack-dab in the middle of the rings, which is too big and fat and not even in the center but off to the side because reasons but has to "overflow" into the shorts because why, and while it's a nice baby-blue color, because the court's taking place someplace fake and "futuristic" which is all in a shade of blue, LeBron blends in to the background of the stadium-thingy.

The new uniform honestly bothers me on a graphic design level, but it only just now hit me why.

I mean he's right. The original movie existed because of the popularity of a Michael jordan and looney tunes sneaker campaign. There's also the fact the new movie is not in space and there is a distinct lack of jamming. OG space jam soundtrack was filled to the fucking brim with high energy songs people associate with sports. new space jam is filled with remixes of those songs that don't really fit a sports setting. Most of the runtime is weird lebron/brand worship shit instead of actual basketball or character focused comedy. The original space jam was criticized by the looney tunes guy because of it mischaracterizing some characters and the situation being something he thought would be settled in a much shorter time if it weren't a movie, I can only fucking imagine the kind of shit he'd have to say about THIS space jam.

I can't believe I've come to a point where I have to defend the original Space Jam which was, at best, a long and colorful commercial with an awesome album.

But this "sequel" is just...garbage.

Just stop's (or someone else) video made me aware that there was a license game for Space Jam 2.

Apparently going off of its trailer the game was part of some contest and it had something to do with the teaser trailer, I don't remember them saying anything about an arcade game contest thing in it but I might be wrong.

Video link:
From my understanding, the contest was that people would vote for the style of game, I'm not too sure if there was even a basketball game option.

Something to note is that all the games including the one we got (a Beat Em' Up game) have nothing to do with different intellectual properties even if the movie is a crossover fest.

It would have been kinda cool if we went through different crossover worlds and maybe something like PlayStation All-Stars would happen where stuff from other movies/cartoons show up in places they don't belong in.

But no, everything has to be generic robots that are more befitting for a Mega Man.exe game and it doesn't help that the settings are really generic.

Anyways I find it weird that they didn't just make a sequel to the original Space Jam game, the game was basketball mixed with different genre minigames they could have just fit all these contest games into it.

I'm not saying the original Space Jam game was even good, I'm just saying that it's something that they could have done and it would have worked a lot better than what they did.

By the way, if you're curious here's a longplay of the original game.

Holy shit the spritework for those tie in games is fucking incredible. Shit's got more life to it than the actual big budget film's 2d and CGI. Also makes me miss how there used to be a lot more pixel graphic games than today. Everythings now either cgi 3d models these days for a lot of games, or "retro" styled games that don't understand how spritework aesthetics can be fully utilized. There's exceptions but it really feels more and more games are just going for the lower effort 3d models instead of frame by frame animation.

Had to edit to avoid doubleposting cause I somehow never missed this reply. The weird thing is less about the shelf-rotting and more about how the things are literally slowly flooding every department like a plague at my local stores. The only thing I can compare this to are those "tube heroes" things from a few years back where they tried making an action figure line of popular youtube guys.

idk, it kinda just makes sense to me. A lot of other toy companies are having supply issues due to a combination of high demand, scalpers and lingering COVID supply chain issues, meanwhile this shit floods in that nobody actually wants so the store owners feel like they might as well stock them up instead of leaving empty shelves.

Granted I’ve never worked retail and only have the bare minimum idea of how this shit actually works so that’s just my baseless speculation.

I personally think it looks pretty cheap but the actual game we got looks a lot better than the other ones we could have got at least, also yeah I also miss old-school sprite art games.

There are some good new indie pixel art games out there but I feel like they don't really hold a candle to their elders.

Btw you should probably delete your double post if you put its content inside of another post. Right now you just kinda edited to say that's what you did but didn't delete it for some reason.

On that note, I just went to my local Walmart to see if the Space Jam toys were on clearance there.

I didn't see diddly shit. No Space Jam toys of any kind in the toy aisle. Just posters. Maybe I didn't look hard enough (I didn't want to look like a manchild or pedophile), but I don't think that's a good sign.

I did notice Shang Chi toys on the clearance aisle, though.

I used to think that I could not go on
And life was nothing but an awful song
But now I know the meaning of true love
I'm leaning on the everlasting arms
That's another thing the old jam has over this new one. despite both being long commercials for looney tunes, shoes and MJ, the original space jam had some heart to it, at least it had some effort put in by who understood what made the looney tunes work somewhat. Sure as the great Chuck Jones of the og Space jam "bugs bunny would have gotten rid of the monstars in 11 minutes not 90 and on his own." But there has to be some change made to the traditional looney tunes formula given how much had changed in the world of animation in the then 50 years since chuck was behind the inkwell.

It's really funny because this movie was clear corporate focus tested china-audience bait . China seems to be waking up to the bullshit because a lot of the other big budget movies clearly intended to make china money have been doing absolutely shitty in china the past few years.
China really doesn't like black people, but pointing that out is sinophobic.

the walmarts and targets where i live are worse, and not just for space jam stuff but like merch in general. The shelves had been stripped BARE of everything the only thing left were a few skeletors, a couple star wars Mandalorian figures, a few roblox and minecraft figures and ONE Mattel jurassic world camp cretaceous t rex...on top of the shelf rack. Idk if it just the stores in my area knowing this stuff wont sell so they refuse to stock it or i just happen to live in a NEET/manchild capital where they line up at the targets and walmarts, tugboats in their greasy fat fingers ready to strip the walls bare like a swam of Consooomer locuts eating a cornfield in Nebraska
