Ah, they can’t change the price of new ones (MSRP) so they ramp up preowned because they can. Got it.

Now, can someone explain to me why everyone’s acting like GTA 6 is a PS5 exclusive when it’s launching on Xbox on the same day? Is it just yet another example of Sonyggers pretending the non-Playstation console doesn’t count?
 
Are Sony restricting the supply during the run up to GTA to flood the stores of old stock when the game drops, to push as many units as possible before the console becomes an expensive paperweight?
All signs point to another price increase coming.

I think it might be related the PS5 Jailbreaking scene going into overdrive lately. A jailbroken PS5/Pro becomes a very competent platform for emulation and also PC games can run in a Linux environment. For this to work it requires an older firmware, new models won't work (so far) so it is not surprising that older models might be going for a higher price due to this potential versatility. At least that is what I can only deduce of such a strange price structure.

Apparently Sony is making the latest firmware a mandatory update to be able to play GTA VI so that's the rub.

I remember naughty dog saying that the next game was suppose to follow Sam Drake but that was a few years ago. I thought lost legacy was alright i would prefer if they ditch Nadine she's annoying.

Its been pretty amazing so far. The jailbreak is a bit crashy, my console is hard crashing 1/4 times I apply the jailbreak. But this can only get better with time.

I think the bigger issue is going to be dumping the game, the back porting to get it running on older firmwares seems to be more or less solved.

This is the issue. Only firmwares up to 13.6 can be jailbroken, but PSN refuses connections from consoles running anything but 14.1 (latest firmware) and possibly 14.0. With most firmware updates Sony usually allows some grace period for staying on an older firmware, but with the recent release of the current jailbreak I expect Sony is going to force 14.1 at a minimum for the GTA6 launch. I don’t know if it would be possible to download GTA6 on an up to date console and either transfer the game to an M2 or do a system backup and extract/dump the game that way but with the game releasing digital only to begin with makes things more complicated.

It's rather sad how Sony is banking EVERYTHING around GTA VI. Even sadder is that it may work in the short term since a fair bit of PS5 owners will swallow their pride and buy GTA VI. Will they buy another console when they're increasing in price to play remains to be seen.

Gamestop is cutting out the middlemen scalpers and setting a price that's comparable to eBay. As for why the price is crazy, IMO, it's all of the reasons mentioned in this thread:

  • Playstation not having enough supply. Speculation: They're holding back stock for a big sale/bundle timed with GTA:VI and Black Friday.
  • PS5 jailbreaking going viral.
  • GTA:VI demand. However, I strongly suspect this explanation is being pushed by the GTA:VI marketing team. The type of impulse buyer ready to drop $1400 on a used PS5 Pro doesn't have the foresight to buy six weeks ahead of launch.

All of the official GTA:VI footage shown thus far was recorded on a base PS5. We don't know what it looks like on any XBOX system, yet.

Additionally, it's awfully suspicious that we're less than two months away from launch and we still haven't seen much gameplay outside of the leaks. I believe the rumors that this game isn't hitting 60 FPS even on a PS5 pro.

It is no rumor, press outlets have already confirmed the game will be 30 FPS only, even on Pro.

TL;DR - There will be no "Performance Mode", the game is locked at 30 at launch. The Head of Development at R* said it would consult with the tech department as to whether an update down the line would make 60 FPS possible ( I think this is pure PR BS not to discourage sales, the game would have to receive severe graphical and resolution cutbacks to achieve a consistent high framerate on consoles ).

60 FPS is going to be a PC and the most likely PS6/Helix port feature.

They never made that many to begin with. They knew it was a rip-off from the get go and only the niggerest of cattle would pay for it, anyone who pays those ludicrous pre-owned prices should be shot.

The PS5 and PS5PRO will be able to hit 60fps/have a perfomance/quality mode, but Rockstar and T2 won't allow it. If they do, they lose a hook for the inevitable double and triple dipping that they're banking on.
PC will have 60fps but miss some features and then PS6/Nextbox will have a GOTY version with 60fps and all of the bells and whistles.

If GTA6 is opened up on a jailbroken PS5, i'll bet pounds to pennies that they can make GTA6 run better than the official release.

Seriously? Well goddamn. I always had a low opinion of Rockstar fanboys as supreme slop eaters but damn, imagine buying an 80-100 dollarydoo game just to play it at an average 25 fps and a 1500 dollarydoo console on top of that.

Be interesting to see how this works without any physical copies of GTA VI, especially with the precedent being set this gen for letting existing owners upgrade for free.

Either way it doesn't matter: Sony could resell the exact same game with zero changes except a PS6 logo and retards would still buy it just to have something to own on their new $2,000 shitbox.

GameStop has a plan.
  • Purchase PS5s direct from Sony (duh)
  • Open up them.
  • Resell them as "preowned"
  • Profit.
They've done this before with the initial NA release of Xenoblade Chronicles if i remember correctly, they'd be happy to do it with an entire console sought after due to GTA VI.
