This morning, just days after a report detailing how Sony has put up "guardrails" to prevent another Concord from happening... Marathon fell below Concord numbers.

There are what, 95 million PS5’s sold at this point. And it needs like 6 million to break even. It’ll atleast do that because Soyny consoomers.
I would say that if you count the consoles sold to non-Western countries, PS5 probably sold about 110 million.

In the last couple years, they fired the entirety of Firewalk Studio, laid off people at Inomniac and Naughty Dog, and slashed Bungie by 50%. Your claim that Sony has limitless tolerance for failure from its in-house studios doesn't hold up. So you're arguing from false premises to begin with.
I am not saying they didn't fire people. But their tolerance is rather schizophrenic. Fairgame$ and Intergalactic are both in active development and the woke stuff about them are largely unchanged despite the fact that everyone mocks them.

And let's look at the major studio you're saying Sony should close down, Naughty Dog. Uncharted 4, TLOU, and TLOUII have moved around 50 million units combined. That's more than every Metal Gear Solid combined. You can bitch all you want about TLOUII losing goodwill, but at 10m units, it outsold every Metal Gear game ever made.

That's why nobody's getting fired at Naughty Dog. Companies don't run on "sentiment." They run on money, and so far, ND brings in money. That might change. No matter how good you are, you don't get an Endless Flop Budget.
Not saying they should close. Just fire Cuckmann, hire a bunch of veterans and get a tard wrangler or two just in case.

Kojima is coming off an expensive flop, Death Stranding 2, then missed multiple deadlines, and refused Playstation exclusivity. At this point, you're engaging in special pleading - Kojima should just keep getting more money and more time because he's Kojima. "Maybe Physint could be the next Metal Gear Solid" - yeah, but it probably won't.
Kojima is coming off disappointing sales. Not good but Sony has seen worse. Should Kojima be getting more money? Not necessarily. If they agreed to give him more money, they should come attached with a tard wrangler. Since they didn't, they should have made sure they had a replacement for him. PS5 has no games now. You fired a guy who made games for it, where is the guy who will make games now that the other guy is gone?

I am of the opinion that a tard wrangler should have been given to every studio. They spoiled the devs with their blank checks and now they complain about it? Kojima is a spoiled child but so is every Sony studio. Sony allowed this and now they have a problem that their devs are spoiled rotten.

None of the games you listed were "flops" except Concord, and everyone associated with it lost their jobs. Not sure what more you want, since killing bad employees is illegal.
I was talking about FUTURE games that will flop. As for what I want, I want them to hire competent devs that make cool and pretty character and great games to put them in. Firing bad devs is one thing but you need to hire good devs too.

You really don't. There are no moral implications to a failed product that other product teams can lean on to get more financing. The opposite tends to happen. A big, expensive flop means everyone is under tighter scrutiny. Execs don't say, "Ah, yeah, haha, we wasted $300m on that, and your idea isn't quite as stupid, so we owe you at least $50m!" They say, "Yeah, we're $300m in the hole, we're canceling your experimental project and reducing your travel budget by 80%. Don't care that you had nothing to do with it; investors are pissed."
The devs suffered because Sony spoiled them rotten and alienated all the competent ones who then left. Sony is the cause of their problems and yet it is blaming the devs for the company culture it enforced.

that's shipped not sold, and Sony also notably uses a bunch of numbers to prop up that number, from Peripherals to PS5s services on to even PS4s sold during that time.

It’s stuff like this and the PS2’s lifetime sales conveniently growing every time a modern console is about to surpass it that make me wonder if any of Sony’s console sales figures are genuine.

The narrative that Kojima was fired because he goes grossly over budget doesn't really hold water when Death Stranding 1 and 2's combined budgets were less than Spider-Man 2, TLOU 2, Concord and Marathon individually.
Maybe he was fired because...
DID YOU RIKE IT?

I'm gonna sound like a broken record here as my last Playstation console was the fucking PS3, but literally every single time there's been a game I've been interested in playing, I'll find out that it's coming to PC and I'd just be buying a £500 console for literally one game and multiplats, so I wait it out and wait it out and then eventually the next gen comes and every good game is no longer exclusive to that console.

Had they locked Death Stranding to Playstation (I know they probably couldn't because Kojima owned the IP) then at least they'd have SOMETHING, same with Spider-Man and Ratchet and Clank and Ghosts of Twhateveritscalled. I mean it's good from my perspective because I get to play these games without needing to buy a console, but had they kept them then I'd at least have an incentive to pick up a console and three or four good exclusive games, and then once I'm locked in I'll be more inclined to buy the PS4/5 version of a multiplat.

They (and Microsoft) let the cat out of the bag and even if you withdraw those games from sale, a huge chunk of people who would have bought a fucking PS5 have already got the games. Why would I buy an Xbox for Forza Horizon when it's on Steam? Why would I buy a PS5 for... I'm struggling to think here. Spider-Man Remastered?

That's the problem. I cannot think of a single great PS5 game that would sell me on the console. Hell, I can barely think of an ABOVE AVERAGE game that would be neat to play on the console. Spider-Man was fun, but had the little bits in the background where you knew it was a great game despite the executive meddling, sure enough Miles Morales sucked and I have had no incentive to buy Spider-Man 2. Now Wolverine looks like it's going to bomb harder than Nagasaki and the big fucking sequels they did based on the cool games that actually did well on the PS4 (Horizons 2, Ghosts of Yotai, Spider-Man 2, Death Stranding 2) all look dogshit.

Like I'm not even a Sony hater here, but they have given me absolutely zero fucking reason to buy a console. I had so many good memories playing Road Rash, Croc, Overboard, Smackdown 2, Twisted Metal 2 etc. on the PS1 and yet every fucking studio seems to take 6 years to create a worse sequel than the game that came before it. I'm not even asking for much, just a low budget game series that justifies having a fun fucking time. You're telling me in an age where AI can aid development and cut out 80% of autistically going through code and you can't create anything like a Spyro Trilogy in 6 years? The FUCK are they even playing at?

They blew a bunch of money on live service flops and made Kojimbo into a scapegoat. It seems pretty clear to me, I don't know why niggas are writing paragraphs as if they're major Sony shareholders.

What is the source of that 6 million figure? Because I heard 8-10.

Either way, 6 million or more would put it in the top 5 best-selling games on the console, I just don't see it happening. There might be 95 million PS5s in the wild, but when your best-selling game is a pack-in title that suggests most people are using it for things besides playing Sony's amazing suite of exclusives.
The modern audience sure hates the games that were made with it in mind, doesn’t it?
The coveted Modern Audience is turning up for these games. This is what it looks like.

I'll give an addendum here.

When Sony turned out to have dropped half a billion on Concord's development, or nearly as much on FAIRGAME$, those both happened because of SIE. Sony gave absolutely no oversight of its Californian cousin's purse-strings, and the result was SIE buying multiple studios that did fuck all except waste money. Acquiring Firewatch Studios was 200 million, on top of the 400 million they spent on developing Concord. Haven Studios did not have its costs disclosed as part of the agreement, but was likely roughly as much.

It was half a decade before Sony pumped the brakes on that shit.

The problem is not merely that Kojima went over budget or over dev time. Kojima's an expense you tolerate that shit from because he tends to make the results at least get eyes on your system. No, the problem is that Kojima did that while Sony was hemorrhaging money from a thousand self-inflicted wounds. The 6% profitability index on SIE and Sony not doing a damn thing about it for four years basically makes perfectly clear that their actions are not that of a healthy company, but of one flailing desperately to avoid death in its closing hours.

hideo kojima hasnt made a good game since metal gear solid 3 and even then he was a pissy bitch who had to release subsistence because people didnt like 1 and 2 shitty camera anymore
im sure the gaming audience will flock to the new xbox helix to play his tranny game and not metal gear solid

all the kojimbo ballwashers rating this post not winner PROVE ME AND THE SONY CORPORATION RIGHT

I bought a PS4 for Last Guardian, Persona 5 and Bloodborne.
I bought a PS5 for Death Stranding 2 and Astrobot.

Sony has seemly lost their partnerships with genDesign, Atlus, From Soft and now Kojimbo (and personally I didn't care for Astrobot).
Even if the digital-only nature of their future wasn't bleak enough by it self, I actually have nothing to look forward for PS6.
Is the normalfag market this huge that they can spit on the face of "hardcore gamers" and still expect to survive only on ball-and-gun gamers?

Current peak is around 2500, which is still abysmal.

The Metal Gear franchise has sold upwards of 66 million units

Yes, once you start rolling in spin-offs, dollarbies & freebies, and dig into the 80s. These are the numbers on tentpole releases:

MGS1 - 7 million
MGS2 - 7 million
MGS3 - 4 million
MGS4 - 6 million
MGS5 - 6 million

28 years of games for 30 million units. Compare to ND:

Uncharted 4 - 18 million
TLOU - 21 million
TLOU2 - 12 million

Kojima isn't in the same class as Naughty Dog. It's very silly to try to position ND as some kind of failure who doesn't deserve the development budget Kojima is apparently entitled to. The last IP he created is already failing. I'm not defending ND's woke turn. From a purely financial standpoint, ND is not in the same place Kojima is. Druckmann needs to answer why TLOU2 suffered a steep decline. Kojima has to answer why he hasn't had a hit in over 10 years.

It was half a decade before Sony pumped the brakes on that shit.
Not to PL, but a company I worked for let a division bleed billions in red ink for a full 10 years before telling them to stop being retarded and limiting them only to initiatives all but guaranteed to staying the black. At some point, you've lost enough money, and leeway you would've gotten 10 years ago isn't available today.
