Kojima Productions just used the Decima engine as a base for their work in Death Stranding, Horizon didn't (AFAIK) use anything of theirs. Just think of it as an internal client.
I wonder if it has anything to do with the disc cancellation. Kojima/Kojipro games tend to be pretty large and he’s famously libertine with other people’s money. I can see PHYSINT being estimated at a shitzillion GB install and Sony refusing to choose between reversing course for one creator (albeit one of the largest alive today) and printing discs, or dealing with the bullshit of having sufficient capacity for 3 million customers to be able to download and play on Day One.
I don't think the disc stuff had anything to do with it, it was sony ending the partnership not kojima, it's most likely just kojima being kojima and over spending and delaying so much that it just wouldn't turn a profit

Bethesda is still worse because they’ve had no wins since 2018. And in true lolcow fashion, they can’t handle criticism or take any advice. So they keep doubling down on things that their customers hate and it’ll all come to a head in time.
