Sony hate thread

There's also a rumour the new console is going to let you scan the barcodes on your old physical games to add them to your digital library

It is no rumor.

TL;DR: Discs for XBOne and XBSX/S have unique cryptographic keys for identification for these to be converted to digital licenses. Older original Xbox and X360 discs are not compatible for this program.

Sony should do something similar for PS4 and PS5 discs, especially considering that there is going to be a PS6 handheld, which is not going to use BluRays to load games.

Thank you for the info, but since it won't include any of the games actually worth using this feature for I now understand why Microsoft are going ahead with it.

When people say Nintendo doesn't count they mean they're content inside their own little fiefdom ruling with an iron fist. Ever since the Wii they've cultivated a specific audience and have them completely wrapped around their finger, so there's really no reason for them to get involved in the console wars.
But they are involved in the console wars, and no amount of mental gymnastics is going to change that. Saying Sony’s two biggest competitors don’t count because of some arbitrary requirement that only affects them only shows that you’re either massively autistic or so much of a fanboy that you can’t comprehend another platform beating Sony at their own game. If Helix ends up being a PC hybrid and completely mogs the PS6, you can bet Sony fans will find another excuse to say that doesn’t count, either.
I think this will backfire on them in the long-term though because like you say the Switch 2 is already a redundant product so where do you go from there?
I didn’t say that. I said with a focus on specs and being able to play modern games more effectively (that includes third party games) as opposed to new unique “Nintendo-like” gimmicks, Nintendo is the most ideologically aligned they’ve been with their competition since the Gamecube.

Killzone was always a poor man's COD clone, there is no more demand for COD clones because even COD itself is dying.
Killzone was trying to compete with Halo, not Call of Duty. I hate how people simplify first person shooters into one umbrella. I’m sure Killzone is more methodical or slower than Call of Duty.

Killzone was never directly competing with Call of Duty, that’s a monumental task for an exclusive.

Like the PS6, what could a Switch 3 possibly offer to a crowd who only cares about playing Fortnite or the newest Bing Bing Wahoo?
A hypothetical Switch 3 will probably just do what the Switch 2 did - stick to the format that works, just upgrade the specs once they’ve started hitting their limits after a near decade on the market.

This ignores the off chance of Nintendo doing Nintendo things and going in a completely different direction, but if it ain’t broke…

I've only finished Killzone 2 but I remember it feeling much 'heavier' than CoD, at least that's the best way I can think to describe it. Halo was clearly its competition but in terms of feel, tone and pacing it was a lot more like Gears.

Never finished a Halo game but I've tried the first 3 and they all felt more arcadey like Unreal Tournament or Quake III.

Probably, but that feels like a plan with severe diminishing returns since nobody who favours the Switch cares about specs or they'd be gaming on a PC.

Emulating a ps5 will probably cook your GPU/CPU. The amount of decoding it needs because the environment is not the original overloads the system.
Nah, emulating modern consoles is actually even easier than emulating old ones. Modern systems use well-documented commodity hardware and all software runs in a hypervisor using exclusively high-level APIs. There's no emulating specific hardware quirks or accounting for baroque architectural rules - it's basically a wrapper API to translate Sony or Nintendo special sauce 3D APIs into vulkan and maybe a dynarec if you're dealing with different ISAs.

ShadPS4 can be run on a potato and I expect PS5 emulation to be doable on the mid-range gaming PCs of today and the potatoes of the 2030s (assuming they keep going with the project).

And I agree, but I'd at least argue the specs matter more for what developers can get to run on it without completely tanking performance than the kind of "PC Master Race" crowd that isn't really Nintendo's market anyway.

Was Haze conceived before Killzone 2? Oh no, that wasn’t Sony directly, that was Ubisoft.
It was Ubi yeah, but also a PS3 exclusive for god knows what reason, and repeatedly touted as the 'Halo killer' despite Free Radical's objections. Ended up bombing so hard even the exclusive song Korn wrote for the game couldn't save it.

Your positioning made it seem like Sony had a hand in Haze being a console exclusive, when that was completely on Ubisoft’s meddling. Killzone was more successful, in spite of their deceptive marketing from E3 2009.

I had to look that up because of how retarded it sounded, but yeah, you're right. Why would Ubi go ahead with making a game for the hardest to develop console eith the smallest install base if development was already well into making 360 and PC versions?

You have never played Killzone then, because it is a blatant Call of Duty rip off. It was only "competing" with Halo in the same sense that both games are FPS exclusive to one system, everything else from how the campaign is structured to how the weapons look came from COD(which was the style at the time).
Put yourself in a 2000s mindset. Halo 2 was the hottest FPS yet, on a console no less. Sony thought, hey, we can do that too.
Halo 2 was released in 2004, Killzone 1 was released around that time too so maybe the first one was competing with Halo. By the time Killzone 2 and 3 released in 2009-2011, COD usurped Halo in popularity and so the devs tried ripping that off. By the time the fourth one for PS4 came out, open world stealth games were more common so the game jumped on that bandwagon too, Killzone died out since it never, ever had an identity of it's own.

Um, no. You could tell that Killzone 2 is heavier compared to CoD’s twitch based gameplay.

It seems all ____-killers end up failing and the only thing that actually kills ____ is the thing itself (e.g., Halo, WoW, CoD)

Tangentially anyone remember the hype for Brink before it fell off a cliff?

I only know it exists because copies of New Vegas came with the game being advertised inside the box. Also, I looked up some Fallout trivia and apparently there is Vault 101 and Vault Boy tattoos for cosmetics, otherwise it's yet another forgotten TF2 clone.
