PICK ONE.

Oh, and you'd practically need PS+ to enjoy the PS5 to the fullest. Unfortunately for Sony, they're bleeding PS+ subscriptions since their decision to add tiers to their service. What is even the point of obtaining a PS5 if there are no exclusives?

I surmise that Sony is running out of stock because they cannot handle demand.
You've got it backwards @The Last Stand, Sony was bleeding sub numbers but this was expected because it was coming down from the highs of the covid virus. They didn't up the cost of the sub just introduce tiers and the base price of the sub stayed the same with no features removed eithers. Their last quarterly earnings showed that while they have already expected less subscribers than before, they're now generating more income from their existing user base.

Currently PS5's are restocked at retailers like amazon and walmart's website at MSRP. They've been restocked rather frequently throughout the day

Among the people in my social circle who play videogames, it's either Xbox Series S, PC or Switch that are most often mentioned. I have yet to see or heard anyone playing on a PS5. And the sole times I saw PS5s irl were "second-hand" items sold way above the manufacturer's price, although I admit I don't go much in vidya stores/sections besides finding something to gift for someone.

If the 3rd year ends up to be a repeat of the first two years, that doesn't bode well at all in terms of healthy userbase for the PS5.
It's doubtful, the PS5 is mirroring what other prior playstation consoles did, the PS3 hung around just as long for the PS4 even getting Persona 5 in 2017 as a global release and that was considered the big game for the PS4 and many said that it was going to kill the momentum for the PS4 that way. But cross generation exclusives always tend to wind up on the newer platform far more than the old. That and sony is already making more playstations this quarter than they have prior.

January is also going to be a big month for PS5 with Forspoken and Hogwarts Legacy

Forspoken certainly looks like a hybrid between Final Fantasy 15 and Dragon's Dogma. They really have focused on the magic system and are not just using it for combat but for traversal as well. It's not showing a lack of mechanics nor content either, the other open world aspects are focusing on dungeon crawling and boss battles.

Hogwarts Legacy while multiplatform is a large game already with a very detailed character creator, and it's looking like something a studio like Bioware would have made years ago like Dragon Age Origins. Avalanche seems to have paid attention to the existing lore with how the areas were described in the books as well as the creatures that are going to show up.

Copywrite laws as they currently are are fair. Play a different game, or, alternately, nearly every PS family console will play your old copy of Blasto so go play it on one of those. Thats a bad comparison to us talking about games "locked up" on PS4 anyway, all are under a decade old, all of the Sony first party ones are big releases.

Its the opposite, the fairies in Mother 3 are too trans-cepting for a childrens' game, I'm sure of it. They don't want conservatives bitching about pro-tranny messaging in their games. Anyways, I despise Earthbound fans, I spit on them, I am glad that they will never get an official release for their game that they've all either already played anyway or have no intention of actually playing.

Game "preservation" efforts, for single player games anyway, are such a crock of shit. Just say you want to pirate, there's no harm in being honest. Somehow all of these "preservationists" have their own electronic copy of Link to the Past squirreled away and yet actual public dumps of prototypes have been lost because nobody felt like downloading and reseeding them. The community can cry me a fucking river.

Ebay exists, you can buy damn near any game you want, you just don't want to pay market cost for it.

It has literally never been easier to buy and play rare/obscure games than it is today, even if you don't factor in piracy. Stuff like the NES, SNES, Genny and TG16 mini consoles offer hundreds of dollars of games for significantly less than that. Even Nintendo's shitty online service gives you most of the heavy hitters. Arcade giants and rare hidden gems are rereleased for under 10 dollars on company stores, the Xbox and Playstation play disks from 20 years ago, Steam has two decades of PC gaming history available for you and GOG the decade before. You're spoiled for choice. And its all thanks to the "corpo scum" who put money in to make that stuff available for you.
I'm not gonna lie I think our way of thinking is far too divorced from each other to agree on anything lol.
I'm leaving a few bullet points here just to clarify a few things.
  • "Just use ebay bruh" doesn't work for me, Poweleveling for a bit, I have been perma-banned from ebay and cannot use their services, this came about after a rather short back-and-forth where they asked me for KYC verification as a buyer. I told them I had never sold anything on the platform and as such I hadn't violated their policies, they told me I had to do it anyways, I responded with something along the lines of "Eat shit and never use this form of contact again you fucking retards, have a nice day". I don't trust ebay and only buy my games from shops and markets to support my local economy, all I ever bought from ebay was weird, hard to get chinese shit like a soldering kit to replace coaxial output for s-video in an Atari 7800.
  • I'm not as big into piracy as you may think and I prioritize availability over it, I used to be a huge game collector and my physical collection comes to about a third of my digital one, with most of my digital library also being completely legal as it's made mostly of games purchased via steam, gog or that I dumped from my collection. The preservation efforts I was referring to are in regards to online components of games, I should've been more clear about that.
  • PS1 games are starting to rot, I give most games in my collection 10 years tops before they're unplayable mementos. Being able to play optical media in new hardware is not good enough of an option in my opinion (Besides, emulators and re-releases done by developers that managed to keep their rights offer improvements way beyond Sony's and Microsoft shitboxes).
  • I'm not a big fan of Earthbound either, I wanted to bring up Metal Arms originally since that's an example where the developers of the game were (And still are) really screwed over but I don't know a lot of people care about that game, unlike Earthbound.
  • I don't have a problem with copyright holders making games available, I have a problem with copyright holders that keep those games locked up for no reason and fill lawsuit against people that make them available or make something similar to them.

Which ones? I've grabbed a lot of random prototypes over the years. A lot of random ones are up on Hidden Palace, too.
Can't name any off the top of my head but tons of stuff only ever released as megauploads on Assembler back in the day. Threads would get one to two pages of replies and the proto maybe a hundred downloads. Bear in mind most Protos are late builds of games Boone cares about, many with little to no difference vs final builds.

Anyways, I played Metal Arms back in the day and am aware of the situation with it. Shame EA doesn't want anything to do with it but let's face it, that type of game isn't where the market is anymore (or even back then.)

It's been officially 3 years. 3 freaking years.
PS5 is still; expensive, unavailable, poorly designed, and has a gran total of 0 games. Not even the PStriple had it this bad within its lifetime. If I were sony I would ctrl+alt+z the fuck out of california as soon as possible.

Why did sony changed the menu from ps3 to ps4? I always liked the XMB menu on the psp and ps3, it was neat and easy to understand

I went back a few pages and since I saw nobody talk about it, Did anybody notice Persona 5 Royale was stealth dropped into steam on Oct. 20?
I donate to the PCS3 somewhat regularly as I know from a relatively thrust-worthy source that some members are working on a ps4 emulator in secret, however after hearing about this I checked the games that remain exclusive and this whole thing about refusing to support Japanese third party developers seems to be working out great in the long run.

Is there even a game here that's worth a damn, not a remake, not VR bullshit and not guaranteed to be ported to PC at this point?
Fist of the North Star: Lost Paradise is a Yakuza game in all but name, which is especially annoying now that all of Yakuza (except Dead Souls), and also Judgment are multiplatform. Fist of the North Star is an old manga franchise, so there's probably licensing issues with getting it ported.

That is a remarkably weak list for exclusives. The three big hitters are Fist of the North Star, Gravity Rush 2, and Bloodborne. Everything else is niche, or stuff only fans of those franchises would care about. The kind of people who like interactive movies might like Until Dawn and The Order: 1886.

Also, I've seen copies of That's You! littering bargain bins for years. PlayStation exclusivity at its finest.

Quick question: when was the last time an ad for a PS2 game made you want to buy the game with no questions asked?

I’ll start with me:

This was the first NBA Street game I was introduced to for the PS2 and GameCube and I honestly did not think that next year it will turn 20 years old. I missed out on the first one since I didn’t have a PS2, but this one was the real deal.

Marissa hyping Forspooken lol
Literally nobody wants that game, and even the cover blends in with like every single other media franchise for having the most Amerimutt looking girl in the world.

Forspoken Cover.jpg Forspoken-Cover-Amerimutt.jpg

At least Deathloop had a cool premise and a charismatic protagonist, but even that may as well have been a fuckin Walmart Great Value™ game for how bland and boring it was.

Calling it now: Forspoken will get hyped by game journos, sell like absolute shit, we'll see at least one article about how those dastardly racist sexist gamers boycotted the game because brown grrl, and it'll be deep discount fodder for the rest of the generation.

The one thing I can say for Forspoken is the character isn't totally hideous or tranny-esque in design, and doesn't have one of the only two-ish facial expressions that characters can have now; smug or angry/insane.

I'm hoping you're right about it bombing but I think it might actually sell okay, hopefully jacking the price up to $70 will hurt it.

I know Sony makes a lot of mistakes this console gen but i noticed this thread is way larger than the Microsoft equivalent thread, did i miss a ton of Sony mistakes or is it people yelling at each others?

People in general just dont give a shit about microsoft in here, and yes, this thread is pretty much just yelling at each others without any one changing their minds

The few people I know that play vidya chooe PS4 at the time then, when the next generation rolled out, it was Switch. Like Marissa says, Ys can be exclusively Switch with no problem and the subset of people that are into Ys will buy it.

Half of this thread is Marissa Moira scrambling to prove that the PlayStation 5 is the best video game console ever made, and then everyone else points out how he's wrong. The other half is directly laughing at Sony and their countless blunders, like that huge drop in PlayStation Plus subscribers after they came out with that tiered subscription plan that costs as much as $120 a year.

Xbox is kind of boring. Game Pass is doing well, Series Xs are easier to get than PS5s, and there's no crazy Xbox simp here to mock. You could make fun of the globohomo controller:

But aside from woke crap like that, it's unremarkable. The Xbox Series S actually being available throughout COVID has designated it as the new go-to console for normies who don't want a gaming PC, but just want to play COD with their buds after work. Sony couldn't even up production of the PS4, let alone the PS5, so PlayStation's really slipping, and it's fun to laugh at their downfall.

There's a Halo grieving thread, although that's more on one franchise than Xbox as a whole.

Developers are complaining that the Series S is holding back resources for next gen games. I wouldn't call it "unremarkable," more like being neutral.

The one other notable blunder that comes to mind on Microsoft's side, was how Halo Infinite's post-launch content was handled, but at least you can play the game on a Series S/X, on a console that you can actually get.

And that controller makes the Forza Horizon 5 controller look less cheesy:

Going back to Sony, someone made a patch to allow offline saves for Gran Turismo Sport, which is an always-online game. And IIRC, there still hasn't been an announcement on when GTS's servers will be shutoff, and what will happen with the game when it happens.

Also, filming has begun for the Gran Turismo movie, which again I don't know who would watch it.

I've been thinking about becoming the Marissa Mori of EGS. Would there be a thread market for that?
You're welcome to try, though I don't know if there's much to say other than "free games guyz!!!!!!!!". Which I'd agree with, thanks to the Legendary client, which lets you install and launch all those free games without ever touching Epic's launcher. As long as you're okay with doing everything from a CLI.

I actually really liked that controller, and wanted to get one a few weeks after it came out. Turned out, it really was a no-joke limited edition, and nobody had stock of it, nor even a used one afterwards. I even went into a Gamestop and asked about it, and one employee even fuckin' talked to me like I'm an idiot, saying something like "That was a limited edition from months ago, you're not gonna find it anywhere :smug:". And then I looked around, and saw countless used games with "Day One Edition" emblazoned across their boxes, looked back at him, and said "Uh, yeah, you're right".

I guess racing fans are the types to not buy other kinds of games, but stay super dedicated to their genre, and buy fancy controllers and steering wheels and all sorts of stuff for their favorite games. So they buy controllers like that in droves, leaving casuals with gaudy taste like myself wondering where they went.

PS5 controller colors are boring and lame. Look at this ugly bastard:

That's "Nova Pink". Compare that to the lovely pink Dualshock 3:
1668315790009.png

And it's like, no contest. The PS3 pink controller is an actual girly pink, and the PS5 controller is like, tranny pink. They'll insist it's pink and try to cancel you if you say it's not, even though it's clearly a disgusting kind of pink-purple-something. It's not pretty, it's the color of Benadryl!
