Yeah this is an especially public meltdown. It's wrapped in corpospeak (they must have hired a decently competent intern by accident to write this one), but it's fucking dripping with "between the lines" nasty attitude. For a jap that was quite a blunt statement (usually when there’s issues between two parties, that makes it to the public, both sides tend to keep quiet/be discreet out of respect. Either Kojima has fully internalized the western way of handling these things or Sony were unimaginably dickish to him in order to prompt this response). I’m not the biggest fan of modern Kojimbo titles but there’s no defending souring that relationship both from an optics perspective and because his studio has a way higher chance of producing something successful than any other talentless fag studio Sony has left (I.e., cuckmann’s naughty dog, always-has-been-bad insomniac, Bungie forma de “raped”, etc.)
I'm sincerely impressed with Sony's unshakable enthusiasm for not just ignoring "bad optics" moments, but seemingly seeking them out. Between this and their anti-consumer practices (telling people "lol no more discs, and prices are still going up anyway, fuck you!" and then openly promising to sue people for bitching at them too "rudely" about it), they really have run out of fucks to give. This is a dreadful shame, because they really do need to actually give a shit here and there because they don't live in a vacuum like they wish they did.
I've noticed this "hey no fuck you, sincerely, you personally, you fucking prick, fuck you right in the fucking asshole, we fucking hate you, fucking cunts, fuck off and die, eat shit and give us your money, then fuck off and go get more and bring it back while we tell you we hate you to your fucking face while you beg us not to kill you" attitude across the board among ... just about every business I've interacted with in any capacity lately. Local medical clinics, laboratories and imaging facilities all have this same attitude. Car mechanics, electronics repair shops, retailers, fucking everybody's acting like this. And it's not just me. Kinda weird. The entire business world is just kinda sick of actually "serving" anybody. They just want money and you can fuck right off if you expect anything valuable in exchange for it.
Just take a look at how LG responded to Gaming Nexus' recent video about how hundreds of millions of their TVs are storing audio they record in the rooms they're in and shipping it straight to LG's servers any time they connect to the internet. Did they apologize? No. Did they even acknowledge there's anything going on? Nah. What did they actually do? They quietly updated their ToS to add a binding arbitration clause to try to head off the lawsuits they can smell coming. No public statement. Just "nah, fuck you assholes, we're not even going to let you sue us." And they're all doing this.
There's just zero fucks given anymore by any of these companies about how their customers see and perceive them. It's apparently not that it isn't crossing their minds that people are getting pissed. They clearly know they're being shitty and that it's pissing people off -- Sony's saying "fuck you, we'll sue you if you mouth off to us too much." LG's reaction is essentially saying "yeah, we know you're pissed enough to sue us over this, so we're trying to stop you trying." They don't even seem to care that their actual sales numbers and performance metrics are all tanking.
I've worked retail, so I get the "stupid fucking customers" sentiment. But any store owner will tell you the only thing worse than having annoying idiots for customers is "having no customers," which is where these companies are all going. Yes, even these big gaming companies. They're aggressively going out of their way to just offer nothing, charge an arm and a leg for it and spit in your face for being a customer. People are checking out and either going elsewhere or just giving up the hobby and doing something else.
Dunno WTF had gotten into all these fucking assholes in the past year but I can tell you I've saved a fuckload of money just not doing business with people like that anymore and learning how to do more things for myself that I'd have never fucked around with even five years ago. Lots of people are doing the same. Goes right along with tightening the belt to save money anyway. Gonna be a lot of surprised Pikachu faces in a few years, I think.
