Sonic 06's story is kinocringe, whereas Frontier's story is kinoslop.The game itself is I've never held it to the extremes that the rest of the internet interesting because while it's full of jank the game is serviceable and has unique qualities like the story. It's crazy don't get me wrong but things happen and there's usually something characters are going to whereas with Frontiers I felt the story was trying to be like the era 06 came from but lacked some of the energy.
Sonic 06 is the creators using the full weight of their skills to create kino, but their lack of awareness at how critics would react to their ideas, such as Elise making out with Sonic's corpse, creates an air of cringe. The result is a story that's oscillates between both kino and cringe at the same time. This is not to be confused with cringekino, which is when something embodies the spirit of cringe so hard that it becomes kino among cringe. That would be Shadow the Hedgehog.
Frontiers was created in the hopes of reproducing the kino of cringe-era Sonic, and the creators were able to make full use of many technical skills to do so, but the execution is held back the their fear of being cringe. Missing the soul that comes with putting their all into it without fear of cringe, the result is that despite the shape of kino it has the air of slop to. It's the most kino of slop-era Sonic, but it's still slop among kino, if you will.
