DAMMIT, YOU BEAT ME TO IT. I was actually planning on playing through all 4 (through the decompilations + AIR) and giving my thoughts on each one, since it has been a while since I've played through all 4. Well, no time like the present, so let's go. Doing 1 at a time here. Also doing them chronologically as SEGA intended with Origins.just recently finished up my playthrough of Sonic Origins in it's entirety. Did all mainline games and all achievements, but didn't 100%.
Amy was at her best in SA1 and SA2 and while Heroes and her Yandere phase is not perfect it is FAR FAR FAR better than everything we got currently.
- Sonic Origins +
- Sonic Superstars
- Both games HEAVILY marketed towards those fans. Making Amy's playability or her in the story the MAIN Marketing or focal point. In Both cases the game flopped spectacularly, while the """"fans"""" that clammored for her were nowhere to be seen in the game's sales.
Horrible take and let me explain why, (and I'll try to do it nicely). Even though it seems like an intentional downplay of Super Forms.
Super forms have always been story-relevant since their introduction in Sonic 2.
The only time they are not relevant is when it was DLC in Forces or an extra character in a spin-off game (like racing games).
So please do not downplay the importance of a superform.
The Super form also ruins Amy's inclusion in games going forward if they have the Chaos Emeralds.
SEGA, I LOVE TRIP'S DESIGN!!! REUSE HER IN A NEW GAME AND MY LIFE IS YOURS!!!

I agree that it has aged better than a lot of people give it credit for.....but it's still Sonic 1. You can almost see the pieces fitting together, but they're not quite there yet. Green Hill, Spring Yard, and Star Light are the perfect mixture of speedy platforming and exploration. Marble and Scrap Brain (Acts 1 and 2 ) place a bit too much emphasis on slow methodical platforming. Labyrinth Zone - whoever designed it and whoever made the decision to make Scrap Brain Act 3 Labyrinth Act 4 can go to troon nigger hell. But overall, a solid foundation to build off of. Next up is CD
Overall nice overview, You should do the 8 bit versions too.DAMMIT, YOU BEAT ME TO IT. Stardust Speedway Bad Future
Imagine having to find seven generators in every zone without losing a life. And every generator is the size of a ring. That’s what it’s like trying to play sonic advance 2Going for the generators has to be the most frustrating experience in a 2D Sonic game not named Sonic 4 or Sonic Superstars.
FWIW I used some action replay codes in retroarch to bypass/make less demanding the time travel stuff and played it like a typical 2d sonic game. was quite enjoyable.View attachment 8479130
Basically a slightly better version of Sonic 1, with one pretty massive flaw: Going for the generators has to be the most frustrating experience in a 2D Sonic game not named Sonic 4 or Sonic Superstars. First you have to find a Past sign, which OF COURSE, aren't as plentiful as the Future signs (Wacky Workbench 1 has exactly ONE Past sign, for example). Then you have to buildup enough speed and stay at that speed in order to get there, which at times, can be pretty fucking difficult. THEN you have to find the fucking robot generator, which can sometimes feel like finding a needle in a haystack (Wacky Workbench Act 1 once again being the most egregious example - iykyk). Long story short, if you want to get the good ending for this game, and still have all of the hair on your head, just get to the Special Stages and go for the Time Stones. Also most of the bosses are pretty....ehhhhhh. The positives: the game is beautiful, and the OST - specifically the EU/JPN soundtrack - I'd argue is the second-best of the entire series. US still has some banger tunes though, specifically the Special Stage, Tidal Tempest Present, and Stardust Speedway Bad Future. Sonic Boom is iconic too ofc. Onto Sonic 2.
And here's the actual first episode.
Marble and Scrap Brain honestly aren't bad zones... on later playthroughs when you have more knowledge of the levels. Marble at the very least could have been slightly more liked if it didn't come right after Green Hill. As for Scrap Brain, i can see what they were going for with having the third act be labyrinth 2.0 since each act is supposed to be Sonic going deeper into the factory, but that still doesn't stop me and plenty of others from taking the shortcut at the beginning just to get that shit out of the way. Cool idea, but lame reuse of assets.DAMMIT, YOU BEAT ME TO IT. Robotnik on a treadmill's pretty funny. I always found it weird how abrubtly the game ended as a kid with a really normal stage end boss and nothing else, but then later found out there was apparently a scrapped final stage that involved using the time travel gimmicks to hurt the final boss. Also most of the bosses are pretty....ehhhhhh
I actually find it easier to go for the Robot Generators than going for the Special Stages. It helps that there's usually some kind of "Time Machine" in nearly every level. However, the HD Remake fucked with the physics of the game which actually screws up a few of these (Notably the ones of Quartz Quadrant) and overall makes trying to time travel via running much more difficult that it was originally.Long story short, if you want to get the good ending for this game, and still have all of the hair on your head, just get to the Special Stages and go for the Time Stones.
The Black Hedgehog must go home!"Pathetic ICE agents, get out of my sight!"
Shadow was literally made from a glownigger fed project with taxpayer dollarsThe Black Hedgehog must go home!
Isn't shadow the bad guy? Does that mean Sonic supports ICE?
Shadow's more "the guy that was the result of a fed funded experiment that watched his family and friends get killed and imprisoned for life by the feds and then stuck in cryosleep for 50 years by the feds with all evidence of his existence being wiped"Isn't shadow the bad guy? Does that mean Sonic supports ICE?
