Old /v/ post that's been used as a copypasta where the guy claimed he was obsessed with Knuckles/Rouge shipping as a teenager to the point that it took over his life and when his parents tried to intervene he threw his mom.

In 2007 I shipped Knuckles and Rouge, but the illness grew and grew. Soon every woman I looked at looked like Rouge, and I would imagine her being with Knuckles. I recorded myself replaying Sonic Adventures 2 and illegaly downloaded Sonic X and went back through the recordings and found all the scenes where Knuckles and Rouge have "moments". I compiled these all into a cd and labeled it as "proof". I would spend hours every day looking at the same fan drawn art that shipped Knuckles and Rouge and my obsession grew more and more. I re watched every scene of the anime where it was hinted they liked each other and rewatched them. I would look up rule 34 of rouge and every single one with Sonic or Shadow I would pretend didn't exist. I got into a fight with someone on the internet about whether Rouge liked Shadow more or Knuckles and everybody in the thread said Shadow.I almost killed myself that night.
Eventually I stopped going to school pretending to be sick (I was 17) and didn't go for 2 weeks just so I could ship knuckles and rouge and read every fanfiction and view every fanart. My parents discovered my gigabytes of files on knuckles and rouge when I went to the batheroom (the only time I left the room) and threatened to break the computer. I threw my mom and stopped myself from hitting her with my belt. I clung to my computer and screamed and they called the police where I was taken away and hospitalized for a month.
This went on for 5 months, and I stopped going to school the last 2 weeks of the fiasco. It started to get really bad during the last 2 months. I had to retake all my state tests (finals) again in January because I couldn't take the tests. I was removed from the national honor society after this.

I'd be lying if i said i knew exactly what they would do, but i wouldn't be surprised if it would become not far off from what you suggested. Probably slightly less unhinged, but still shit enough to tank sales at the very least.

Honestly i want to argue against you, but ever since Metal Virus concluded the comic has been kind of a snoozefest barring some moments like Imposter Syndrome and Phantom Riders (am biased towards the latter cause i love Riders). I think Ian said himself that the comics were never going to get as serious as Metal Virus ever again, so if all we're getting from that point is glorified filler low stake arcs, why even bother staying invested?

The closest we can get to experiencing something like a modern xtreme game is unironically Sonic Lost World.

I've said it before, but they could have done that when the 3DS came out to take advantage of the 3d effect.

If the demo videos are anything to go off of, X-Treme is essentially PS1 Klonoa with a fish-eye effect. So it can totally be done. The problem is that nobody wants to touch it.

If it was insanity like those from Penders and co from Archie times, at least it would be entertaining, instead of being constant homo-drivel. Tangle was pretty much kidnapped to be the lesbian postergirl, so she can't be separated from that fact (and Whisper). Whisper's character is bland and IMO too dark for the setting, as her entire squad was killed and she went into a revenge spree, while most of the main cast laugh it off whenever Eggman does something. Having another Sonic Adventure 2 situation is unlikely to happen at the moment (unless the next game/s go dark again).
