I haven’t done an IDW review in a few months. Terrible, I know. How could I neglect the greatest comic ever made?
Issue 5
Art:
Art is quite standard this issue. It’s not bad really, but I miss the art from issue 4.
Synopsis:
The story begins with Sonic, once again, fighting badniks. He’s joined today by Espio who helps him take care of the robots. Afterwards, Espio explains he Vector and Charmy have been searching for the whereabouts of Dr. Eggman.
Sonic tells him to cut to the chase, so Espio brings him to a village where the rest of the Chaotix is waiting are waiting. Sonic is then introduced to “Mr. Tinker”
Well it’s actually just Dr. Eggman, but with amnesia. As the village’s headsman explains, Dr. Eggman fully believes he’s Mr. Tinker, a happy go lucky handyman who repairs and builds for the village, free of charge. Sonic and co debate what to do with him. He might be putting up an act, or he could just remember himself at anytime. Not to mention, Mr. Tinker is still Eggman at the end of the day, shouldn’t he be punished for his crimes?
(more game references yaaaay)
Suddenly, badniks! Sonic immediately suspects Eggman but finds him protecting the village children which convinces him that Mr. Tinker should be left alone
Sonic and the Chaotix defeat the badniks and we see the figure in the chair reappear. He’s mad Sonic blew up his toys, and somehow didn’t know Sonic was there, or that there was a village nearby. Maybe he lost track of Sonic at some point, but doesn’t he have a map? What were his badniks even doing there in the first place?
Anyhow, after the badniks are defeated, everyone celebrates and Mr. Tinker mentions he’s going to build Eggman land soon, which gives Sonic pause. Before he can do anything, Shadow and Rouge appear, and the black hedgehog promises to destroy Eggman once and for all, thus ending issue 5.
Closing Thoughts:
It’s another introduction issue, what can I say. It does leave an interesting plot hook though. It’s an interesting choice to start the comic with a villain other than Eggman at the forefront. Now Eggman probably isn’t going to stay sidelined forever, but it might nice to see a long arc with a different main antagonist. The last time that happened was the Iron Kingdom Arc in Archie.
