I'm 50/50 on this one. Sure, they may have fixed and polished some of the edges here, but it makes me wonder if the DLC might be worth it
It's all free, if that helps. Unless you mean if it matters in the grand scheme of things, in which case I think the tweaks benefit the overall package rather than detract from it (the spindash and physic tweaks especially).

Semi-related, but following the big game announcements yesterday SEGA put out some PR crediting Sonic (as well as Yakuza and Persona) for keeping the company "afloat".

Maybe they should actually treat the Sonic franchise better than locking its games on Apple Arcade if it's carrying the damn company.

They're just starting to go back to the "haha we sure do suck, huh? Please love us" thing they had before the 2020 movie came out.

Reminds me of Square locking all their new Final Fantasy games to PlayStation
At least those come to PC a year later, who knows how long this will be an Apple exclusive.

Why are you expecting Sega to do something not retarded? This is the same company that did crazy 0 IQ moves in the mid 90s and destroyed their hardware sector as a result.
You'd think they'd wise up a little but that's the one thing they've been consistent with.

Forget the mid-90's, the mid-2010's are proof enough. The Nintendo exclusivity deal in the 2010's turned the Sonic Boom relaunch of the Sonic IP into a disaster by forcing an XBO/PS4 game onto the Wii U, or even the more recent decision to keep funding Hyenas long after the extraction shooter market had matured and become oversaturated.

They really don't give a shit about the style of the original do they? who from the og team is involved in this? the coffee guy?
When a joke mod is better than any game they made in the last 22 years...

I imagine apple paid them a boatload for the exclusivity.

Hideki Naganuma's involvement is very much an unknown at this point in time, but I'd assume it's unlikely. Perhaps SEGA will tap Ohtani to compose some of the soundtrack.

edit: According to a WaPo piece (disable javascript to bypass paywall), the 'original creators' of the game are working on it.

Utsumi said these legacy series can find second life now that the games industry has a captive global market large enough to sustain Sega’s weirder concepts. Utsumi has firsthand knowledge of testing strange concepts as co-founder of Q Entertainment, a studio behind games that played with the concept of synesthesia and dance music.

“The concept of games like ‘Jet Set Radio’ is advanced. The original creators are involved again, and its time is now,” he said. “It’s a good time where people can appreciate all kinds of concepts.”

There's hope yet that they might contract Naganuma as the main music producer, after they hired Ohshima for Sonic Superstars.

On the one hand, yeah, that does deserve praise. On the other.....
The Age of Broken Video Games (1).mp4
tell me this doesn't fit Frontiers to a T.
It's not inaccurate lol

This is the JSR reboot? It looks more like a bootleg made from unity store assets than an actual game.
Each game they showed has a cheap look. The only series they make that consistently looks like it has a huge budget is Yakuza, so where's all their money going?
