I get so unreasonably angry whenever I see 30 versions of the same character all running around together because multiverse shit is one of the worst media trends that every brand has seemed to just all adopt at the same time.
I know that's probably not what's going on in this trailer but I wouldn't have been surprised if that was the case.
It's the Sonic Naruto crossover where he learns Ninjutsu! BELIEVE IT! Then it will be dropped by the next game like it always happens with Sonic.

I swear the operate on toddler looking at dangling keys logic, some franchises don't change things enough, but by fucking god does sonic go hard on the other direction.

This is a thing that's annoyed me about Sonic for the last 15+ years.
It seems like since 06 was a disaster, they will throw out any idea that doesn't stick or give them insane success right away.
They've kept the basic boost gameplay around this long because it's the only thing that they feel works and is very safe, but everything else is disposable.

It came off more like a Zelda: Four Swords kinda thing, which I'm still not a fan of conceptually.

Alternate universe crossovers are fine sometimes if it doesn't get carried away. Mario Paper Jam was a cool idea.

@Wonderman
There is a strong pattern of crying lesbians in Sonic comics.

Doesn't it get tiresome? I'm sick of characters who are sad and pathetic and gay.
How the fuck is Surge gay? If she was real (and not in a comic for kids) she'd strike me as the type to go around calling people faggots, if anything. If there's ANY sort of romance teased for her, I'd say it's with her male companion (Kitsunami), and even that's a stretch.
I don't remember Belle being in any way gay either... I can't speak to the Archie examples because I never read any of it, but did you just make half of your post up or something?

My issue with multiverse stuff is that they do get carried away a lot of the time.
Once you have more than two or three worlds/universes the stakes are already incomprehensible. It also makes everything feel replaceable, if one universe in an infinite number of them is destroyed, well who cares I'm sure that's happened to countless others.
To brin git back to Sonic, Forces and Generations were fine when it came to this because the multiverse nonsense stopped at bringing one extra Sonic who was very distinct from the other Sonic to a new world.

I don't think Surge is gay either, but I put her and Belle in the list too because they're still yet more pitiful female Sonic characters even if they're not lesbians.

hey guys so i will be bringing up another piece of media about sonic. this time. Newgrounds.

ahh newgrounds. the pinnacle of flash animation. back in my junior high days i would come home from school to browse the website. if it's not on youtube, you had to check newgrounds. i remember playing some good flash games like super smash flash. but the best one i played was Super Mario 63.

but we're talking about sonic. so i will talk about one of the best flash animations.

Sonic: Nazo Unleashed

the movie reused lines for sonic, tails, knuckles, and shadow from their past games. basically the dreamcast/nintendo gamecube era. like ryan drummond as sonic and jason griffith as shadow

Nazo himself was voiced by edwyn tiong. he would later go on to voice fuse in Dust: an elysian tail and the magister in the freedom planet series. two indie games i enjoy

other than nazo unleashed, there was also Sonic Shorts by Sonic Paradox

i remember watcvhing these as well. some shorts were good, some were bad, some were hilarious and spot on, and some were cringe.

one of my favorites was this. because this was what i was like playing carnival night as a kid. LMFAO.

anyway. sonic paradox still makes animations, they're now making sega shorts and sonic shorts seconds.

even sonic paradox took music from sonic heroes and made them into songs.

Sonic Superstars 'Chaos Emerald Powers' Revealed For Every Character

Blue Emerald - Avatar: creates multiple clones of character, will defeat "nearly" any enemy, handy for bosses)
Red Emerald - Bullet: useful action to blast character in any direction, can be activated mid-air
Cyan Emerald - Water: Easily traverse underwater sections, can climb up waterfalls
Green Emerald - Ivy: Grow vines from the character's standing point, reach new heights
Purple Emerald - Vision: Uncover hidden platforms and rings
Yellow Emerald - Slow: slows down everything, makes challenges easier to overcome
White Emerald - Extra: Character-specific ability
Here are the White Emerald character abilities. This emerald will need to be "selected and activated" like other powers:

Sonic - Homing Attack: Gives classic Sonic his modern homing attack
Amy - Hammer Throw: You can literally throw Amy's hammer at enemies
Knuckles - Punch: Punch anything and everything
Tails - Tornado Spin: Tails will create a tornado - taking out any enemies in its path

Ohhhhhh noooooooooo.

Anyone else remember this one halloween-themed flash animation where Sonic skins Tails and wears the pelt for a halloween costume, leaving him for dead only for Tails to be reanimated? That's probably the only one I remember from newgrounds.

There's probably a few minor updates from SDCC and Sonic fandom in general
- There's a new Fang and Knuckles comic meant to be released for their 30th anniversaries in 2024
- IDW issues 67 - 70/71 are going to be a predictable story arc for Surge and Kit. They're either faking having turned over a new leaf, or they unsuccessfully try to reintegrate into society. Either way, it's a disappointing storyline premise.
- A new halloween comic focusing on the Chaotix.
- The pop-up Sonic cafe did not give anyone food poisoning yet.
- SAGE 2023 is coming up soon, entries close next month August 21.

Those Emerald powers come off more like "Easy/Casual Mode" tier tools rather than anything unique. The red one is basically Charmy/Vector's powers from Chaotix.

So now every character with the help of the emeralds can go wherever they want, whenever they want. There's no special paths that only certain characters can take and none of their abilities really matter in the long run.

They've COMPLETELY missed the point regarding playing as different characters.

I assumed the people behind this were just reading Wikipedia articles in hopes of knowing how Chaotix or any Sonic characters are played as

Sonic Mania 2 was never a thing
“When we started Evening Star, it was always our goal to move beyond 2D pixel art into 3D games, and develop all-new, original IP," he says. "Evening Star did work with Sega to explore possible directions Classic Sonic could go after the success of Sonic Mania. Sonic Mania 2 was never in development, though, because we actually agreed early on that we should try to make something fresh, like hand-drawn 2D or 2.5D. At the same time, Evening Star was developing our new Star Engine, so we also ended up making a cool Sonic prototype that played with depth in 2.5D, and some other gameplay ideas."
