It seems that Sega can't stop living in the past, considering how this is styled after the second game that they've made

All things considered, it actually looks great

>it isn't Mania 2

still it does look kinda lit. Keeping expectations low, though.

If it has Sonic 4 and Generations/Forces god awful physics then it is dead on arrival. Considering they have Sonic Mania's source code they should have no reason to fuck this up.

Just a head's up for anyone that wants to get the skin. It might not be true, but I wouldn't be surprised if it is..

Also the reception is about what you'd expect. Majority is "cautiously optimistic" but you have others that are "day 1 buying" and then the usual dick suckers justifying the $60 price tag. This KingofBunnies user seems to be the only one with their head on their shoulders in the realm of reality and common sense.

Also something about a "Santiago" meme regarding Sonic and how terrible it is... I can't be fucked to dig into that autism.

I don't see what looks so good about this. I don't see anything to sell me on this game. It's just Sonic. Is that how low the bar is now? I'm just left wondering if every other Sonic fan has become so accustomed to shitty games that they think mediocrity looks amazing.

Yes, and Sega is part of the blame.

Once again we have another situation where it's classic fags vs modern fags. Last time Team Classic won with Sonic Mania while Team Modern got shafted with Sonic Forces (and the Sonic Colors updated port thingy that was buggy as fuck). This time Sonic Frontiers was the winner for Team Modern while Sonic Origins disrespectfully bitch-slapped Team Classic in the face.

Now we have a new game by Sega that seems to be appeasing Classic fags, which means their next game that will use Modern sonic will be shit. Classic fans are hoping this new game won't be a Sonic 4 situation, but they are already having panic attacks regarding speed pads showing up a lot.

I almost want to make a fan game purely out of spite for Sega, but I don't know what it'd even look like.

but I don't know what it'd even look like.
Well, it certainly can't be any worse than what's been announced if you know what you're doing

It kind of started with 06 and that time Shadow went full retard; but it's only started being consistent once they've started shilling the series on ios.

In all fairness, I specifically said that the company is relying on the same fallback that everyone else is doing; although with Sega's case, they're doing it an lot more often than most of their competitors do.

It gets worse.

Sonic Team boss Takashi Iizuka said in an interview at Summer Game Fest on Saturday that the company had originally intended to collaborate again with developer Christian Whitehead, who directed 2017’s Sonic Mania, but plans fell through. Iizuka then approached Ohshima, who worked on the original Sonic the Hedgehog and other entries in the 90s, to lead the next 2D game with his development team, which is best known for developing titles such as Hey! Pikmin and Yoshi’s New Island. Sonic Mania developers Headcannon and Christian Whitehead are not involved, Iizuka confirmed.

“When we were making Sonic Mania and the game was finished and Chris was done, we had a conversation with Chris and the team about what the next 2D game we make should be,” he explained. "We had some concepts and ideas laid out between the teams but we couldn’t kick off the project. And so it disappeared for a while with Chris and the team. “I’m friends with a lot of my old coworkers and I was having a conversation with Ohshima-san about how we should make a Sonic game together and if he’d be interested. He’s the original creator of Sonic the Hedgehog, and so we had a conversation about whether his company Arzest would be interested in working on a Sonic game." “So there were ideas with Chris and the team that fell through. Sonic Superstars is really all developed by Arzest, but Sonic Team in Japan is working with them on design and some other elements. Arzest and Ohshima-san are 100% developers of the game.”
TL;DR: They WERE going to make Mania 2 originally, but plans "fell through". I'm going to emphasize that. Plans for the team who developed literally the most successful Sonic game in decades to make another one...."fell through".

I give up.

I still can't help but like Shadow the Hedgehog. Looking back at it, it's kind of charming how cartoonishly edgy it is. Plus that soundtrack was great.
Yeah, it's certainly hilarious, especially that bit where Eggman was getting close to brainwashing Shadow into thinking that he's an android and gets an karate job to his neck for it.

This specific thread is borked for me on Tor and even I reload the thread the formatting is all fucked.
I'm reading between the lines and I'm guessing it was a politics thing. I'm sure the Japs didn't like Westerners making a better Sanic game then they could in over 20 years.
The new Sanic, Sanic Superstars, looks good but I can't say anything more beyond that.

I cannot stand the Tor honestly.

Anyway, yes I do think Sonic Superstars does look good, but I'm still sad we'll never get a second Sonic Mania
