The thing is that the majority of the cast already has unique characterizations to them. It's just that Sega has absolutely no fucking clue what to do with any of them, and have let them all stagnate to the point where they are all one note.

Take Amy for example, apparently she's a fortune teller, but that aspect of her character is never utilized. Instead of giving her magic shit, the entire focus is placed on the Pico hammer as her main way of attacking and she's completely weak without it. Instead of using her as like a guide of some sort that will help sonic and co, she's a psychotic "love interest of sonic" and/or a snarky bitch that comes off more as a hindrance, which makes her no different than the villains.

On the other side of the coin, there's Shadow The Hedgehog... in which Sega was adding WAY too much with that character with his own game. "Is he a GOOD guy? is he a BAD guy? Is he a ROBOT?? IS HE A FUCKING SPACE ALIEN?!?!?!". "Ow The Edge" and "Black Creatures" memes aside, nothing good came from that game.

Maybe 95% is an exaggeration. But take Espio, does he have any character beyond "ninja?" Vector beyond "DJ?" Charmy beyond "annoying?" The post I was replying to posed the question "Would Sonic Forces have been a meaningfully better game if Cream had a role?" I was just saying you could apply that to most of the cast. Would Forces have been better with, for example, Marine the Raccoon?

As for Amy being a fortune-teller, I do remember her using "female intuition" to track Sonic in '06. I can see that being a reference but some translation shit happened.

I'd tell you I'm not getting off to this, but at this point, I don't think I can convince you. I just didn't want to be the only one knew about this and was weirded out by it. And Furry Art Freak Show wouldn't want it because it's not horrifying enough for them.

Oh trust me, I absolutely agree with you in regards to Forces. Adding more characters would not make it better because Forces problem is much bigger than that. Even after adding "rando OC donut steel" create-a-character, the very thing Sega themselves highlighted as a feature, it STILL wound up on the sidelines once you "rescued" Sonic.

Ever since Unleashed, Sega for whatever reason can't have Sonic show any sign of weakness or let one of the other characters get the upper hand. Forces, if done right, could have had every character use their skills to their advantage to progress through each zone (but not like Adventure 2... there's no reason for Knuckles to go "Treasure Hunting" to save Sonic). Maybe have something like Rouge The Bat or Espio The Chameleon have stealth segments ala Metal Gear Solid when they infiltrate eggman's base or something. And then have Knuckles team up with Vector for melee segments (maybe something like Hyrule Warriors) to go full ham on the robot enemies. You could even throw in some neat homages to the 32x Chaotix game for that.
 
I very much miss when they'd use there expansive cast of characters as an excuse to experiment with different styles of gameplay with a Sonic twist on them. I really do think that SA1 an/2 are made far better because of the inclusion of the different gameplay styles.
Ever since 06, Sega has been totally risk averse and has removed any semblance of ambition from new Sonic games and the first casualties of this new attitude were non-Sonic playable characters and telling stories that try to take themselves somewhat seriously.
You'd think this would at least mean that what they choose to keep would become more polished over time but I really don't feel that with Sonic's gameplay, though I still haven't put much time into Frontiers.

Of course not for Forces
But I think the potential to make Frontiers way more interesting of a game by adding other playable characters who aren't just Sonic reskins is much higher entirely because it could still be fun to traverse the open zones in some other ways.

Bro, get yourself an new set reading glasses. Besides, it would have been justified if we were talking about how the fanbase suddenly became degenerate back in 2000 or so; or that someone is horny over the newest underaged character.
