Because you're in the sonic thread. We're all retards here, including me. And I can't seem to hold back from pointlessly trying to talk some sense into a couple brick walls.
Anyway, I wish sega would supply an official version of this image without the costume. though, I did quite like all their costumes, especially knuckles. He always did look really cool with the hat on. I also found it pretty cool that they took the time to make the sprites for sonic in the minigame different, having no costume when its the thinking minigame, and when you actually play as him he has the costume on.

Maybe adding the hats was the only way Sega of Japan would fully allow the game, since they could say “alternative continuity” or something like that. I’ve seen dumber workarounds.

Well, the costumes are there because they are playing a murder mystery game for amys birthday, and are all playing characters.
 
Welp, forced myself to finish the damn VN.
The playable side character stands as the most unremarkable joe among the all typical average Joes MC on VNs. You are essentially background npc character, with a Tails's tag along prerrogative.
Also, Espio speaking over dozens languages in a world where everyone even the ancient civilizations speak a single language. They really like to hype up their own characters with trivia worthy kind of crap so random autists could add a new sentence on his wiki it seems.
So much handholding in following up the key statements and hints felt like I was playing a telltale game ffs. The bonus stage runners were nice tho.

According to you the reason they're avoiding them at all and using gender neutral terms like virtually no other video games did pre-Wokeism, is because they have to cater to gender specials either way. That means this choice was directly influenced by that, which...is what was argued.

Their entire decision making process is based around their need to make concessions to them, based on YOUR own words.

OR, since you're implying gender is too much work to implement without bizarre new age gender neutral shit, they can just not have gender options like most visual novels/Sonic games don't.

There is literally NO circumstance where they NEED to to use "they/them" unless they're trying to appease gender specials.
