Sonic the Gayhog
You seem to have him confused with Silver.

I swear to God this cast of characters and the artstyle is perfect for Classic Sonic. Hopefully the next game will literally be "Mania but original levels" everyone is hoping for.

I'm glad but Sonic Team's problems seem to lie more in the talent rather than the budget. It's hard to tell what's them not giving a shit and what's them not knowing how to do things. They seem to want to imitate games rather than making them.
Most Sonic games are imitations, if you think about it. The original only exists because they wanted a version of Mario you could speedrun. I found most of Frontiers' flaws to be a lot less egregious than your average Sonic game and it seemed to mostly stem from Sonic Team having to research and develop multiple prototypes during the dev cycle which led to things like the final act being rushed.

Overall, this is probably the best Sonic has controlled or played since the Adventure games.

Sonic Origins Plus officially revealed!

https://youtube.com/watch?v=FoyoWlOJILc
>Physical version available
>All DLC from base version is included
>$10 if you already own it
>Playable Amy
>All 12 Game Gear games (emulated)
>Knuckles playable where he wasn't before
>"New Challenges, modes, music and museum content" (No clue if the challenges are things that were already in origins or not)
Every single one of those should have been in the base game, and people who bought the game day one are getting screwed because the $40 price will now include Plus, and Plus will come with the day one DLC. Hopefully they’ll at least do a simultaneous free patch like with Mania that fixes all the bugs and makes all the customization options accessible through normal menus.

Does anyone have any thoughts on the Extreme mode difficulty?
A Famitsu article confirms that Sonic Frontiers is getting an "Extreme" difficulty mode through the Sights, Sounds, and Speed update, which is known as the "Spring Departure" update in Japan.

SEGA, YOU CHEEKY BASTARDS.

I get they wanted to just do the sprite games but couldn't they have added best Sonic game Sonic R into the collection plus?

Oh, I'm aware of the Amy Romhacks like Sonic 2 Pink Edition and Amy in Sonic 3. I think they're a fantastic way of making these legendary titles feel fresh to replay, since you have to adjust your playstyle to a completely new set of mechanics. Such a shame that the opportunity wasn't seized by this supposed "remaster," but I imagine they weren't interested in putting in more effort than the bare minimum, meaning that we're essentially getting little more than a sprite swap.

The photo mode is very lacklustre and feels like a tacked-on addition. Indie games with tinier budgets have done better. Windbound's in-depth photography features comes to mind as a standout one.

For a game that places emphasis on day/night, not being able to change the time of day within photo mode is annoying once you start having to wait around for the ideal lighting conditions for whatever you had in mind. You can't even select animations/poses for Sonic to do.

So like what's the legal issues Sonic Team has? I know they can't use Penders and anything Sonic Chronicles. But I'm hearing Spinball and some other games are also not allowed for some reason
The only one I know for sure is in rights issues is Sonic Pocket Adventure. That game was published and developed by SNK for the NeoGeoPocket Color.

Only issue Sonic Spinball had was related to the music. Not to the extend of Sonic3 though, they just couldn't use Dreams Come True music for the game (although apparently a few US versions were released with them in) so Howard Drossin made original tunes for it instead. But considering he also made tunes for Sonic & Knuckles as well, I don't see how that would be an issue NOW.

I think SEGA is just deciding to put as minimal of an effort as they can with this collection, considering both GEMS and MEGA+ had more stuff in them. How do they include 3D Blast GameGear version but not the Genesis version is beyond me. Only "effort" they seem to be interested in are the visual gimmics no one really gives two fucks about (hub worlds and such). Headcannon are the guys that genuinely want to make a great experience with bug tweaks and character additions.

Probably something that'll get proper focus in the next game. I agree, as it stands it's quite lacking.

In other news, SEGA continues to surprise (in a good way) with new official art of Silver and Queen Elise. They're currently doing a calender via Sonic Channel JP where there's a story to go along with each month. I'll put it in a spoiler since it's a tad long.

The city of water, "Soleana Castle Town", where beautiful waterways spread endlessly.

A magnificent silver tray hung in the bay... In one corner of the national water skating rink, there was a woman staring at the cold, deserted ice surface and sighing sadly.

"I'm not..."

Her name is "Eris".

She is a young skater who is often called the “Queen” of her singles, and now she has a big problem.

The set song for the pair skating competition, which was my life goal, was a song that reminded me of my late parents who raised her with love as a teacher. When she listens to this song, Ellis is moved to tears by the happy memories of her past, and is unable to perform her role.

Unable to find a partner to form a pair with, Ellis finds herself at a dead end, and before she knows it, she vents her troubles to the starry sky.

At times like that......

"I heard the story! I will help you."

When Ellis turned around to hear a voice behind him, there was a former skater who had been taught by him and all the skaters who had taught him had brilliant records. There was a figure of a famous person without a person "Silver the Hedgehog".

"Don't worry! I'll support you to the fullest!"

She couldn't be happier for him to be her partner. But... the biggest problem lies within her own mind.

As Ellis remained with her head down, Silver took her by the hand, handed her his pendant and said,

“You are not alone.

The blue gem seemed to shine brightly as if to encourage her.

As she practiced more and more, her anxiety about the song disappeared little by little, and before she knew it, she was somehow able to skate it to the end.

Originally, there was nothing more for Eris to learn. However, the pair performance itself with Silver, who leads her powerfully and accurately, gave her confidence and courage.

And finally the day before the performance. Rehearsal practice day at the actual venue......

Unfortunately, it rained heavily at the outdoor rink. This is no practice. Eris dropped her shoulders and headed home, but...

Suddenly, Eris noticed that the rain around her suddenly stopped.

She looked up at the sky and saw a silver figure floating in the air, wrapped in emerald green light. From the palm of her hand held up to the sky, a gentle film of light spreads, covering Link and repelling the rain.

Silver spoke to Ellis, who was holding her breath.

"Actually, I'm a psychic..."

Silver urges Ellis to say that she is wasting her time practicing.

He turned from a player to a coach because he feared that this power would unconsciously come out during the competition. I want to use this power not for myself, but to help others in this way.

In the heavy rain, only the skating rink remains silent, and the ice surface is covered with white fog.

Ellis, who felt Silver's kindness in a dream-like fantasy space, felt a flame of courage burning in her chest.

......The rain finally stopped, and Silver participated in the practice. It's finally the end of the rehearsal.

As Ellis stepped up and continued to perform in harmony with her partner, she found herself enjoying the song, which was a symbol of grief. And her feelings resonate with those happy memories of practicing with her parents.

She loved the song as much as she loved her parents. As Ellis remembered it, warm tears welled up in her eyes, but her performance didn't stop, but rather grew in brilliance.

And the most difficult, climax twin triple axel. I thought it would show a vivid rotation from a high jump, but...!

"......!"

Ellis, who failed to jump successfully due to a momentary slackness, lost her balance greatly in the midair. Eris thought she was going to fall, but she was supported by the emerald green light. She is Silver's psychic.

“That was dangerous!

Silver tried to relax with a joke and resumed practice.

However, Eris's high-flying feelings have cooled down, and she begins to be attacked by cowardice again. Is there any guarantee that this will go well in production...? Silver, who noticed her condition, assured her and cheered her up.

"You'll be fine. Don't worry! Your hard work now will lead to the future!"

Beneath the starry sky after the rain, a hot wind slowly blew between the two on the ice.

On the day of the tournament...the pair appeared like meteors at the rink during the festival, captivating the audience with their beautiful performances.

And the triple axel in question......!

Just before she took off, Ellis almost gave in to the dark premonition that crossed her path, but at that moment, what appeared in her eyes was...Silver's smile. And her trust, her happy hours of practice, and the fond memories of her past with her parents have held Ellis to where she is today.

Two people at the same time, a splendid jump and a perfect landing! Loud cheers!

The two were honored as the brightest pair of the day...!

Tournament is over...

"thank you"

Atop the deserted link, Ellis returns the pendant to Silver. It's something she no longer needs as she's grown up over her past.

Silver thanked the smiling Eris in return.

She wasn't the only one to move forward. Silver also revealed that she was greatly inspired by her hard work in this case and decided to make a full return to her player.

“But honestly, I’m worried.

"It's okay! I'm sure it will work, because..."

Ellis smiles and continues.

"...Hard work is all connected to the future, isn't it?"

Between the rink filled with quiet and gentle light and the falling starry sky, the two people's laughter overlapped and resounded.

"Overnight..."

No way, Silver and Princess Ellis have changed quite a lot from being figure skaters, but Silver is still Silver, and Ellis seems to have retained the dignity of her original princess.

Even so, I think I've seen the light from that pendant somewhere...?

As for the incident, I was surprised by the gigantic water link, but the land of the Principality of Soleana and the castle town itself didn't seem to have changed that much. Apparently, not all of the world has changed, but it seems that an accident has occurred partially.

It seems that more investigation is needed to understand what happened to the world as a whole...

I remember when TJ Davis performed with Richard Jacques for Summer of Sonic. I felt bad for her because she asked the crowd during one of the songs to clap and there weren't many who did.

The thing is that Sonic R has a genuinely good soundtrack. I'm sorry but it's true. Its fantastic. Dated maybe but you can't tell me that you can instantly recognize that theme song.

I never got to play All Stars Racing Transformed and its a bummer its not been rereleased for modern consoles.

Honest to god, you don't have to apologize to anything. The soundtrack is good.

Good to see Soleanna/Elise getting some love. Sonic '06 had a melodramatic and edgy story, but it was my melodramatic and edgy story.
