It's one of the funniest things
Didn't Shadow kick Sonic first tho?, he did seem to act more reasonable than his current character, but eitherway he was the first one to start the fight
Shadow was trying to get Sonic to tell him wtf was going on and Sonic was already late because of his own hubris and was now even later because of Shadow. But as Sonic is characterized here, he is too confident and has issues actually relying on his friends as more than "I like these guys" so it makes sense he wouldn't tell Shadow fuck all.

So, as someone who's kind of digging Prime (it's not high art, but if you're expecting that from Sonic the fucking Hedgehog, you've got bigger problems.), it's making me miss the heady days of old SATAM and the like, and making me think about finally getting around to digging into the comics. But everytime I look into where I should start, it's a massive autism vortex, which usually boils down to 'wherever you want, lol.'

Has this come up here, or can one of you recommend where I should dig into? I don't really care about retellings of X, or Boom or whatever, I just mean the Archie/IDW stuff, the stand alone. I know Penders is a fucking lolcow autist, but is his shit worth reading, or should I just pass him entirely?

Related: Is this the right place to ask, or should I go dig up the old Penders Lolcow thread?
Start from the beginning of Archie (the four part miniseries before the real comic) and go through the rest of the normal comic too, even the Penders stuff. The comic should tell you when to read side stuff, like specials, miniseries, and spin-offs. Read those too, except X and Boom. They’re not necessary.
You’re not gonna like the Penders stuff, but you’ve gotta see it so some things later make sense when other writers use his own characters better than him. It’s better that those later issues are explained by earlier issues that don’t make sense than that the later issues don’t make sense on their own.

The next bit of free DLC for Frontiers should be dropping tomorrow. Seems to be a pretty clear reference to these old pieces of Adventure era art.

Okay, finished the first batch (don't bullshit me this is not a 24 episode series being divided into batches) of Sonic Prime.

I like how they finished. That Shadow line of "There is no home because of you" was great, I actually liked that small moment a lot. It set up an interesting world where they are not really tied to almost anything Sonic-lore wise because of the way the shatterverse works and the confirmation Shadow gave us there at the end. Being able to see different worlds and incarnations of Sonic's pals sounds like a great way to have different characters without having to actually introduce a lot of new people. Curious to see if we will return to the worlds we have visited because that pirate one seemed like had its own story going on. Really hope it's not just New Yoke.

Overall I did enjoy the 8 episodes. I like what they have going on in here. I will concede that the fact that everyone lived in Green Hill in the original universe made it seem pretty small and uninteresting, but we have only seen like 1 or 2 days of that universe so far.

Now that I think about it, the reasoning for everyone seemingly living in Green Hill is likely to avoid making the shatterverses seem small in comparison to the base world.

Think about it, the shatter verses' are likely suppose to make up for small scope of Prime's world. The story mostly follows Sonic, so they don't need to worry about increasing the world's size when they could just give us different variations of the same area for Sonic to explore.

As someone who’s only seen clips, did they explain why there’s no alternate Sonics?

Probably something to do with the fact that he was the one who shattered the crystal, coming into physical contact with it whereas everyone else just got hit with the shockwave. He also seems to be imbued with the energy of the crystal as a result.

I have decided to embrace the autism and do a deep dive into this series, played the original as a kid but never beat it and didn't play the sequels, up until now Adventure 2 Battle was the only one I beat.

So far I've played and beaten Sonic 1 and 2 and wow, pure 16 bit perfection, I can see now why this series has the following it does.

I always liked the series ok from fond memories of playing the first as a kid, but am I now a bonafide Sonic fan?

I have some questions though, other than the Advance games what games post Adventure 2 are worth playing? (I'm assuming not 06) and lore wise, what's the deal with Sega saying the Genesis Sonic and modern Sonic are two different characters? Have they gone back on that? (unless it's some big plot spoiler)

If you think Sonic 1 and 2 are perfection, just wait until Sonic 3 and Knuckles. Legit, one of the top 5 2D platformers ever made. Play AIR with the Sonic 2 sprite for Sonic cuz the Sonic 3 sprite is DOGSHIT.

No, they haven't. They're both from "different dimensions" according to Forces. As for Sanic games past Adventure 2 worth playing: the Rush trilogy (Rush, Rush Adventure, and Colors DS) Unleashed, and Generations. Maybe the Team Sonic slice of Heroes, if I'm being generous.

People have severely misinterpreted what they meant, mostly because they never actually bothered to explain anything. All the pre-adventure games still happened in the main continuity and are the same character... the "alternate dimension" stuff references the fact that in Generations, Sonic met his younger self due to time shenanigans, and that younger Sonic's timeline now plays out differently once he goes back because if you met your future self obviously you'd act a bit different afterwards than if you hadn't, and due to the butterfly effect the course of his adventures start to diverge more and more as it goes on (leading into Mania, which only happened in the "new" timeline). The main timeline is still the same regarding the genesis era, this new one is just something on the side...

TL;DR the genesis games are still the same Sonic, the "other dimension" one is just a second instance of young sonic from a split timeline due to time travel in Generations

Gameplay-wise, 06 is good enough and would be the last 'adventure' gameplay game, with a couple unbalanced stages that require glitching to complete (Mainly in Silver's story) and the mach speed sections being abhorrent. But Project 06 is a much more technically sound recreation of it and a better choice instead of hauling out an old x360 just to play a janky game.

Unleashed only has a few standout stages, all of them being the first boost level from each area. Not worth a full playthrough, Generations level swap mods will suffice. The Unleashed bossfights aren't anything special either. Generations by itself works well, but it's best as a springboard for playing other mods.

Colours is okay, they did a better job of balancing out each area with 1-2 'long' boost levels and a few short segments. Just pirate it instead of buying it off Epic Games.

Hold that thought until you’ve played Sonic 3; that is 16 bit perfection, and widely considered the best game in the series.
Also, just so you don’t get confused, Sonic 3 & Knuckles is the intended way to play Sonic 3 (they were split into two games; long story). I recommend Sonic 3 AIR; it’s a PC port that adds widescreen, 60 FPS, and a bunch of other stuff.

I’d say the only must-plays are Mania and to a lesser extent Generations. But Unleashed (or Unleashed level mods for Generations), Colors, and the Rush games are also strong choices. If you want something unconventional, try Shadow the Hedgehog through the Reloaded mod that includes a bunch of quality of life improvements and fixes some of the game’s more tedious design choices.

Gonna say I also think Shadow the Edgehog is pretty good fun in spurts, and has fucking amazing camp value if you are into that sort of thing.
I vaguely recall attempting to satiate some completionist autism with that game back when I was a kid despite how much I didn't like it even back then, and basically forcing myself to try to see everything the game had to offer. All routes, all endings, unlock the true final route, that whole deal.

I distinctly recall it not taking more than a stage's worth of playtime for my brain to start going numb from all the jank, and for a dull, throbbing headache to set in and refuse to go away for a while even after I stopped playing it.

You have to play in some incredibly short fucking spurts to maintain even a degree of enjoyment out of it, if you can at all. The bosses suck all the cocks, and the morality gimmick is particularly painful if you're trying to aim one way or the other. Even worse if you're trying to go for that "good" morality and you accidentally end up using your special to basically autoplay speedrun yourself straight to a neutral stage completion.
