Sonic fans are very thirsty for a win. I get the feeling this could end up like another Sonic Colors situation where right here, right now, everybody is celebrating this game, but in the future a lot of people will look back and have second thoughts once they get some distance from sharing the hype.
They’ll think about how simultaneously empty and cluttered the open zones feel, about how easy it is to miss seeing an NPC’s side story content, how a lot of it doesn’t fit together right, and how gimmicky a lot of enemies are to fight, and how clumsy and low budget all of the cyberspace levels are.
Not really negative memories, never really angry at the game for secretly being bad, but all the jazz and good vibes will mellow out a lot as the honeymoon ends and critical thought seeps in around the edges.
But people are also allowed to feel good about a Sonic game if they want to. Frontiers has good things about it that I think folks will look back on fondly, too, like the music, the story, and the boss fights.
But when you’re in a desert and dying of dehydration, any little bit of water is a blessing, even if it tastes kind of weird, y'know?
