Sonic Frontiers sounds like the name of an airline or a random diner in the middle of America that still sells moderately good food. If anything, I predict this new game will get a 7/10.

I'm thinking mostly 8's with a few 7's and the odd 6 thrown in here or there. You know there's always one site that loves playing the contrarian.Sonic Frontiers sounds like the name of an airline or a random diner in the middle of America that still sells moderately good food. Seeing as the developers responsible for that gem left to make their own games? Yes.Sonic Mania literally just printed money, but they're going to try the 3D thing again, huh?
Sigh.
The 3D games also print money. In fact, the only two that didn't in recent memory were Lost World (exclusive) and Forces (terrible word of mouth). On a related note, I had no idea Sonic & Sega All Stars Racing sold almost TWENTY MILLION UNITS across all versions of the game.Sonic Mania literally just printed money, but they're going to try the 3D thing again, huh?

It hurts so muchis that... GREEN HILL ZONE!?
HEACKING AWSOME!!!
I actually like these better because they’re not cheap imitations of ChaoSo, remember Korone, the dog VTuber? Yeah, she's got her own DLC in Frontiers. It replaces the Koro (little Rock dudes) with her representation of her chat.

Yes, this is real. There is a God, and He has a wicked sense of humor.
If they tried Mania 2 then maybe everyone else will see my problem with Mania.Sonic Mania literally just printed money, but they're going to try the 3D thing again, huh?

They tried to get Vertebreaker off the ground through kickstarter, but unsurprisingly Sonic fans who praised Mania did not want to support a game by the same people when it wasn't Sonic.Seeing as the developers responsible for that gem left to make their own games? Yes.
Yet LakeFeperd does just fine with his OC? lol get fuckedThey tried to get Vertebreaker off the ground through kickstarter, but unsurprisingly Sonic fans who praised Mania did not want to support a game by the same people when it wasn't Sonic.
That might have a bit more to do with the gameplay.Yet LakeFeperd does just fine with his OC? lol get fucked
To be fair, the Koco seem more based on Kodama from Japanese folklore than Chao. You know, the things from Princess Mononoke.I actually like these better because they’re not cheap imitations of Chao
No I don’t know. And that image is rather disturbingTo be fair, the Koco seem more based on Kodama from Japanese folklore than Chao. You know, the things from Princess Mononoke.
I feel like I wasn’t clear enough with this post, so here: if they make Mania 2, people are gonna know what to expect, so they’ll notice the flaws in it more obviously the second time. One flaw in particular sticks out to me: it doesn’t feel like an old Sonic game to me.If they tried Mania 2 then maybe everyone else will see my problem with Mania.
You're going to have to be alone on that one. To me, Christian Whitehead and his team nailed the feel of early Sonic. He was a cool character, but never because he was trying to be cool, as much as the advertising/your perspective would have you believe otherwise. He was brash and confident: he grins and waves his finger at you when you succeed:I feel like I wasn’t clear enough with this post, so here: if they make Mania 2, people are gonna know what to expect, so they’ll notice the flaws in it more obviously the second time. Sure, it plays like old Sonic, but to me, that’s not enough. I say if you want to make an homage to the old Sonic games, you must first understand what Sonic was originally meant to be: a cool dude. In Mania, he’s not even a little cool, he’s more “babyface,”if that makes sense. I think people forgot he was a “cool dude” at first because he got so much edgier in the 2000s that he out-edged his past self out of being thought of as cool, or maybe people took the “blue cartoon hedgehog” argument used to dismiss his more serious stories a little too much to heart. I suppose that from that, Mania was made with these beliefs in mind not realizing it was betraying Sonic’s “cool dude” origins by doing so. Mania only shows that they’ve lost sight of what Sonic was meant to be, and because of that, I can’t ever go back to playing it. I just hope that someone else can understand it the same way I do.
It's one of the best racing games, it deserves the sales. The 3D games also print money. Sonic
Sonic the Hedgehog, or just Sonic, is Sega's biggest franchise. The first game in the franchise was released on June 23, 1991. Since then, Sonic has become one of the world's best-known video game characters, along with Mario, Pac-Man, and Pikachu. It is one of the best selling franchises. It...vgsales.fandom.com
I get what you're saying, Classic Sonic does seem more cute in Mania and recent Sonic games in general. I think originally Sega gave him more of an edge in America than he originally had though, and then slowly pulled that back a bit.I feel like I wasn’t clear enough with this post, so here: if they make Mania 2, people are gonna know what to expect, so they’ll notice the flaws in it more obviously the second time. It’s not so much the sprites that bother me as it is the animations and music. After all, it can’t be too hard to get the sprites right. You're going to have to be alone on that one. His round body and big, expressive face undermines his coolness, as he is quite cute. His cockiness was always understated enough that it was never in-your-face or annoying: he reacted to the world around him in an undeniably self-assured way, but it was never exaggerated. A lot of people say that Sonic is a relic of the '90s, due to his cool image, but I think that being cocky is a perfectly legitimate character trait, and one that fits perfectly with Sonic. His speed and his overconfidence give him a good excuse to get himself into scrapes, and also get himself out of scrapes, and just generally be a unique character rather than a blank slate.
There’s a huge difference between being cool, and acting cool, if you see what I mean, and I think Christian Whitehead and Headcannon navigated that tightrope perfectly.

So, if I'm hearing you correctly, what you're saying is that one of Mania's biggest flaws is that Sonic isn't cool enough? It’s not so much the sprites that bother me as it is the animations and music. After all, it can’t be too hard to get the sprites right.
As for the animations, that is where he completely lacks in coolness. Maybe more so in Mania Adventures than the actual game, but it’s still the same version of Sonic that I’m complaining about.
As for the music, it could’ve used more work sounding like old Sonic, maybe more so 3&K and CD than 1 and 2, but maybe that’s just my biases kicking in. Maybe they could’ve went with something like this album I found called Soundshock: FM Funk Maddness!! (Yes, I only know about it because of Ignition, Set, Go!) I’m thinking not so much what it literally sounds like, but more thinking about that “souped-up Genesis” feel I get from it.
On a completely unrelated note, what if they wrote off Shadow being uncharacteristically an asshole as “he was a Shadow android the whole time?” That would be stupid, but it could work as the basis for a fanfic.
It’s that he’s not cool enough in Mania to seem to me like SonicSo, if I'm hearing you correctly, what you're saying is that one of Mania's biggest flaws is that Sonic isn't cool enough?
Makes me wonder why big companies skipped over Wii U, 3DS, and Vita when they could probably do it even better in less time. Is two weeks of pay really more than what they'd earn?Following up on the Mania decomp, it’s already been ported to Android, Vita, and Wii U. There are some problems with the latter two versions from what I’ve played, specifically the special stages being way too slow and FMVs constantly changing speed, but the levels themselves play great, including DLC. Pretty impressive for less than two weeks.
