Funny... Mania had something similar, but all you had to do was spin dash, get to a point where you have an up-curve and then just activate glide if you wanted to.

CD does have a spindash (a very gimped one, but it exists). If CD is the Whitehead version that has a proper spindash, Knuckles wouldn't have any issues with the Metal Sonic battle.

Excuse my autism, but that video is inconsistant as fuck

So according to SEGA in regards to Sonic 1, you start at one end of the island, go to the other end of the island, then go BACK the same way you came from to go to a stage that was RIGHT NEXT to the first stage you entered?
I think it's more supposed to be a stylized representation condensed in a way to convey the zones in a small space and not a literal recreation.
If they made the islands accurate to the games you'd lose all the details and it wouldn't be visually appealing.

Oh look, another reason to stick with the decompilations and 3 AIR, or for people to pirate the required releases for the decompilations and 3 AIR.

If a company has to delist old versions in order to incentivize getting the new version, instead of letting the new version's features speak on their own, the correct move is to never buy the new product. Fuck you SEGA.

TFW when the only legal ways to play vanilla sonic 1 and 2 options in current year are wither another digital game collection port or a fucking subscription service
Of course this doesn't take into account other game collections or the originals used, but the fucking reddit ass "RETRO COLLECTOR" consoomer branch has ruined used game buying with their insane habit of claiming old games that aren't even rare are totally worth over 100 dollars and that shit keeps getting worse with people like that company that did weird shit to claim an unopened unopened mario bros case is worth millions.
Really feels like companies are doing everything in their power to price everyone out of anything these days and make inferior but more expensive products.
I still haven't forgiven Gearbox for taking down the superior version of Duke Nukem 3D in favour of their own shitty, inferior version.

> The Sega Ages versions of Sonic 1 and 2 for Switch will remain playable. The same immunity applies to Sonic 2 on the Sega Genesis library for the Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack.
OK Sega, what is it about Nintendo that you're leaving them alone but deciding to fuck with everyone else?
Maybe Sega gets a cut of Switch Online revenue by having those games on there?
Not to mention:
1. Sonic's inclusion in Smash Bros.
2. Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games
3. Sonic games consistently selling well on Ninty platforms (Forces had the highest number of its sales coming from its Switch port, for example)

Aside from that, there's also a hard technical requirement to use that exact ROM: S3AIR loads a lot of data directly from the ROM and expects all of that in very specific locations. Other ROMs than the Steam versions usually don't use the exact same internal layout, so reading anything from those would only produce garbage data that the game can't handle, so it would probably crash right away. That's also why you can't just plug in a S3&K ROM hack and expect that to work with S3AIR.
And there's the rub. If you can't get the Steam ROM, then you can't play AIR. Scummy as fuck. *sigh*

This is just another example of why piracy for preservation is important.
Calm down. Sonic 3 AIR works just fine if you use any Sonic 3 and Knuckles ROM you can find. It does not have to be the version you get with Steam. I just tested this myself with a fresh download and a ROM I've had since middle school.

Yeah, ones that you obtained from a 3rd party site, which is now the only way you can play AIR.

Why the fuck are you complaining about having to pirate an almost 20 year old game to be able to play a fucking fangame (a requirement which is dumb as shit in of itself).

The creator is an idiot for trying to avoid piracy considering the fangame is made from assets ripped from the game with no proper licensing, there's no reason for grandstanding.

the ultimate pipe dream would be SEGA saying "fuck it" and just make a Open world GTA-esque Shadow the Hedgehog game

it's as stupid as it sounds, but it'd be pretty fun ngl

I like Sonic's campaign in SA1. Musical nods to earlier games, banging soundtrack, the fun and charismatic hub world. It’s rough around the edges but still a beautiful game. After that, it gets hazy.
SA2 might be the most autistic game ever but I'll never stop having fond memories of it.
After that is where I'm done. (I'm sure there's somebody out there who feels the same way about whatever game came after that, and ad infinitum...)

I think that SA2 might have been the last "original" game that was universally liked without reinventing the wheel.

The Rush series had the boosting and stunts. Nearly anything on the consoles focused an bit too much on running in an narrow corridor. And they've pretty much gave up on narrating an story throughout the series after how edgy Shadow's game turned out.

Sonic Advance 1 seems to be well liked by everyone and stayed pretty faithful to previous games. Unless you're just taking about 3D.

I think a lot of people forget Sonic Colors (DS) too. It was definitely a little more gimmicky though.
