Jeffrey is in a tough spot because it's likely a healthy portion of traffic and revenue. He also appears to be much more interested in being liked than late-era Lowtax. But he's been through this enough times that he should be able to easily spot the tactic you've pointed out above. It's happened very recently (CascadeBeta, et al) with the same sort of justification - "Larry is a poor LGBTQ minority, how can they not be mad online?" Everyone then swoops in to stir the pot because if Larry is deemed acceptable then any sort of feral behavior up to that point will be fine as well.

These people aren't going to leave SA if you decide to actually follow through on any of your permas, Jeffrey. They're addicted to the forums and using it as an outlet for their mad at dad anti-authoritarianism. There's no obligation to deal with people that make moderating more difficult or time consuming.
 
I unironically enjoy a lot of CSPAM but for every decent thread, like clockwork, you're gonna get a derail every 10 pages or so that goes something like,

pay them to work 4-5 hour a day to go through the report que and field questions

This will force the creation of a set of rules beyond "what ever bro"

So whenever you're curious about where the mods = cops discourse comes from, the evidence is from people like this. Considering that one half of the entire mod staff was in agreement that LF needed to be nuked as early as McCaine's mystery protection from the other half of the mod staff, CSPAM is absolutely in that phase of the talks by now, since in addition to screaming that the mods are glowing, they're now upping the accusantion ante to "all mods are pedos".
