Here is how shit worked for us:
They liked for you to be dead, but if you weren't and there was nothing going on upstairs, if you were on life support... Basically how long they would want you linger depended on how good your organs were, and who needed what today.

If you were a match to a critical patient and the family was cooperative, they would do a few tests that would cause some sort of reaction if there is any activity upstairs. If your finger so much as twitched when they shot icewater into your ear canal, the harvest was off until they were certain zero brainwaves.

But it all varies. Some hospitals, unless you signed a waiver, required you to "die" off life support before they could harvest. Basically pull the ventilator, wait for cardiac arrest and then resuscitate to prove you're a vegetable.

I'm torn here because there is no normal grieving process, and it is not a good idea to say someone acting different then how you think you would/they should doesn't mean they aren't having a hard time dealing with feelings.
