I used to think it was an exaggeration but you all aren't joking. The forum is absolutely full of tankie exceptional individuals. Even the Games subforum is more about politics than games now. I used to visit the Games forum every couple of days because the recommendations were okay and there was actual discussion instead of sensationalizing like on Reddit, but no one talks about games there anymore.

The JRPG thread is talking about how creepy JRPGs are and how they wish there was a game about Communist revolution or femdom.
The Steam thread is bitching and moaning that We Happy Few doesn't unequivocally compare people who aren't left-wing to Nazis and that it doesn't make "a statement" about the alt-right.
There's a megathread solely about Polygon (WTF?) and it's devolved into discussing the various female members of the staff complaining about bugmen at their jobs harassing them. You never know which is true because male feminists are usually creeps, but the type of person who works at Polygon wants attention and headpats so they could be lying. The funny thing is, no one can tell who's a true ally or not so they're all snipping at each other trying to figure out who to witch hunt so the last couple of posts have been sarcastic lower-case replies with no grammar.

How do people like that enjoy life? Do they just endlessly make commentary about what's going on around them sarcastically? It's like no one can be genuine because if they are they might be outed as "problematic" because they didn't word their agreement of a prog. stack member with the correct amount of deference or hostility to whatever is the subject of their five-minutes hate.

This applies to almost every subforum. Which is why it's funny when Lowtax/The Faggot Mods try and claim that getting rid of Ozma and trying to do something about this kind of thing in 2013 is what killed the website. In the quest to chase those alexa traffic figures from Ozma's reign they have quadrupled down on the thought policing and banned anyone that doesn't have "Correct Opinions" which just leaves the extremely outraged SJWs or people that have no opinions at all like ironic white noise shitposters.

You can pick almost any thread and it's full of people outraged and complaining about life, the subject of the thread or the posts in the thread.

Funny Pictures thread? A fight about how not liking anime is racism
Schadenfreude thread? Oh it's just a Mueller investigation/"Gamergate/Nazi" watch thread
The Meme thread? Oh a fight about which memes are too racist and problematic

Unfortunately we will never be able to figure out the complex and unknowable secrets behind why traffic died off on Something Awful. It can't be the decades of extreme thought policing actively driving off tens of thousands of people or the miserable atmosphere leftover when anyone to the right of Marx is banned.
 
The "Idiots on Social Media" thread is the worst for that. If you look at older iterations of it from years ago you found all sorts of wonderful genuine stupidity to laugh at, now it's 90% "this person has political views that are very slightly different to our hivemind, what an idiot amirite?"

The doxing of Step Aside blew up in her face. Step Aside was a TERF who was very vocal in the feminism thread which Ozma personally moderated. Troons were pissed that no matter what Step Aside would say she would never get probation so the only way to show how mad they were was to give her red text. One day a sock puppet doxed Step Aside as being a parachute account, and not actually a cis lesbian like they had presented themselves. Step Aside was actually a detransitioned (?) MTF.

It's not hard to put together that Step Aside was an Ozma approved parachute, as she was well known to approve parachutes. Troons suspected that Ozma was TERF since she never did anything about Step Aside, and the doxing confirmed it for them. They tried to act like they were so creeped out when the sock drop the dox in the trans goon thread, but anyone who knows troons know that they will masturbate to such a scandal. Troons think all TERF hang out spots is just filled with cis men LARPing as cis lesbians.

Ozma stayed an admin for a little while after that but then so she and all her cat lady mods left Something Awful.

He really is the worst mod. He's fully the reason why after 15 years I'm not logging in again. I had a randomized password linked to an old email account, so once I cleared it from cache, there's no way to recover. I'm a better person for it too. LowT sure showed me!

From what I remember, Ozma did most of the dirty work of running the website like managing the money. When she left in 2014 it was a huge blow to the website and Lowtax had no idea how to run the place. Instead of finding someone as reliable, he got a bunch of tankies who were terrible at managing finances.

Apparently he made about $180 (before fees) during the livestream for just 90 minutes' worth of "work", which isn't that bad. But I'm sure if he were to stream every day (like he tried to at one point) it would dry up pretty fast. The people giving him $20 at a time during his occasional streams would instead give him lots of littler $2 and $5's that would eventually add up to that one-off $20.

I don't have much exposure to Guyovich but the little bit that's been posted here is just brutally obnoxious. Most of SA's louder (and ever-shrinking) posters are explicit commies so it's no surprise when they show up in every fucking thread and shit it up. I'm always thankful when a fairly anodyne subject resists the urge to virtue signal en masse but the usual suspects almost without fail take the bait. The only thing that makes me happy is that outside of the SA hugbox they're reviled and get told to shut the fuck up instantly when you don't have sympathetic mods protecting your shitty internet tankie posts.
